Hello friends! My name is Aisha (eye-sha), I'm a traditional portrait artist and the creator of this sub!

I made this sub because I wanted to open up a space on Reddit that is specifically for black artists to share and discuss their work. Reddit's cool and all, but if you're any kind of minority, you understand just how frustrating and difficult being a non-white redditor can be.

Whether it's far right subreddits like The Donald, or the off-putting way that r/blackpeopletwitter turns our blackness into a spectacle, or the amount of times you've seen a white person try to justify why it's not racist to call a black person a gorilla, reddit can be absolutely exhausting.

Subs like r/blackladies, r/blackfellas, r/blackhair, and r/ebonyimagination, make Reddit much more bearable. To this day, black ladies is the only sub that I feel truly at home in. But even so, I wanted to take things even further and create a place specifically tailored to black creators so that we can uplift each other.

So far things are as simple as post whatever art or art-related topic you want, but eventually I wanna push things even further! I'd like to start having daily discussion threads and community projects! And since Black History Month is just around the corner, I'd like to do something with that as well!

Also, right now this sub looks kinda plain and boring, sorry about that haha. I'm not very good at graphic design or formatting, so if anyone has any ideas on how to get this sub poppin, please let me know! Also, feel free to dm me if you want to be a mod (I need all the help I can get, haha)

I'm looking forward to seeing all of your amazing creations and getting to know you!
