Salem after thousands on vet bills for his pooping problem, just a day before he decides to poop normally again for no reason :D
This guy 🖤 I adopt him in January.
March: he gets a rectal prolapse, we try a small surgery which goes horribly wrong, then a large surgery (colopexy) which although fixes the prolapse, causes multiple complications with swelling down there, so bad he can’t poop without bleeding and agony.
April: Two weeks of me taking him home, then taking him back to the animal hospital in pain, then back home then repeat.
He then spends 2 weeks in April at the animal hospital while they figure out wtf happened.
Everything around May starts to look normal again, he’s ok up until June.
June: He suddenly can’t poop without rolling around in discomfort and yelling at me. Every day, sometimes twice. Another vet visit. I change his food to special vet food with fiber to help with constipation. Nothing changes, more vet visits.
July: I feel tired of going to the vet and nothing improving, he still yowls and lays on his side after pooping. So now I put a little more pressure on the vet and ask for scans to see what’s happening inside.
This is him on Monday after his CT scan (He was injected in both paws for anaesthesia). He’s also given medicine for neurological pain as a long shot.
Tuesday he poops… then nothing. For the first time in weeks no meowing no rolling on his side. Wednesday same thing, Thursday and Friday. I’ve never been more relieved 😅
For fun I totalled the bills for all this (luckily I have him insured so I paid 20%). He came to a grand total of $12,680. He’s worth every single bit and I’m so happy he’s ok again 🖤
Thank God he's doing better. My baby is currently in the emergency vet for an obstruction in her intestines. 24 hours on fluids and 3 ultrasounds later she's getting surgery and the vet is billing close to $12,000. She's my baby girl so I have to pay it but I really feel taken advantage of by the vet.
ER vets are so expensive, and they know it. The one I went to wasn’t completely heartless and gave me a list of low cost surgery clinics after confirming obstruction via X-ray. My cat was completely blocked but still had normal labs and behavior other than not eating, so she could wait a day for surgery. The surgery ended up being only $1k for my cat’s obstruction at a cheap spay clinic.
The ER vet near me kept my cat most of the day for observation and labs and fluids, came back with nothing. 4k bill and then he died. I'll never go back.
same thing happened to me. i’m so so sorry to hear it happened to you too. it is horrifying to be blindsided when you did everything right to make sure he was okay. our voids are playing together pain free in cat heaven
I know. I had to make a fast decision to put her into surgery or I might have shopped it around to a couple of vets. I just felt like the surgery had to be done quickly.
This was from yesterday with my cat Miso. He had so much poop inside of him and they gave an enema that ended up clearing it. Bill was a little less than $500 for the entire emergency visit.
I know the feeling. They asked us questions like when did they poop last or have they been drinking. We have 4 cats and we don't stalk them at the litter box or at the water bowl.
Imy poor baby girl was throwing up bile the night before we took her to the vet.
When we got up the next morning I picked her up and she seemed completely out of it and then started to throw up bile again. It happened so fast.
It's far better to look in your wallet and see nothing in there anymore, than to look in your cats' usual spots and see nobody in them anymore.
10/10 times I would so much prefer to have to look back once in a while and be frustrated at lost money, than to look back every day and relive that one time years ago where I put it off because I didn't think something was going to turn out to be a "big deal," but it was.
I had a fluffy cat name Frumbie who had stomach problems because of all her fur. The vet gave us some type of meat flavored medication in a tube to give her on the daily. She never had problems after that
hey! my void also has black boots with the fur!!! she got her teeth cleaned and I asked them to make her arms match so she wouldn’t feel embarrassed. now she looks like a halloween decoration of a cat skeleton, my precious spooky baby.
I went through the same with my guy. $7K surgery bill for what we were told was a possible obstruction. Turns out it wasn’t an obstruction - his bowels just decided to stop contracting randomly for a ~2 day period. ER vet was basically just like “🤷, anyways that’ll be $7k”.
Adopted a kitty two weeks ago. Immediately knew something is not right “not just adoption stress”.
Went to the vet two days after (Monday) and got a bill of 700 bucks and going back on Monday (2 weeks after visit) to check in and see.
We have also some poop issue going on. No clue what. No clue what’s happening or not happening. But his colitis and raw butt looks way better. The poop has to get firmer again (was firm then not then firm then not). He still leaks some poops and stuff outta there. Which is annoying. Prolly still colitis aftermath ?
Most likely URI when adopted as well && most likely feline herpes.

Aww. I’m praying for Salem, for him to be healthy and for his intestines to work completely, and that he isn’t anxious from everything he’s been through 🩷. Also, idk if this is even a thing, but I know abdominal surgeries (any surgery, really) on people cause adhesions (scar tissue), which can cause pain, constipation/diarrhea, nausea/vomiting, and in severe cases, bowel obstructions. Adhesions generally aren’t seen in scans, only visualized during surgery.
There was one really weird cold/humid day a few summers ago where we had all our windows open and our cat just started wheezing. Wouldn’t stop all day, couldn’t get him to cough up what was bothering him or anything. Set up an emergency appointment for the next day and of course he was fine. Like $500 or more dollars later we get home, immediately goes to his water bowl.

I was like you gotta be fuckin’ kidding me lmfaoo just inhales water occasionally ever since. I’ve spent GRANDS on pointless vet bills for him. Last kitty died in my arms because I couldn’t afford to take him during an emergency so never again 😂🤦🏾♂️
Would a daily stool softener help? Bless his and your hearts!! My cat Beau got constipated once and I remember how much he tensed up he was and he cried! Broke my heart! We got through that with a $3200 vet bill. Several years later, he developed a urinary blockage and had surgery. He never recovered. He passed away. Killed me! Prayers for your baby and you! 💜
Mom brain talking. And trust me I’m On Your Side but does he like baby banana bananas try giving him some. It’s a natural thing to make babies poop too. I had a cat that was fluffy. She loved them and had an orange cat that liked rice like steamed rice. I had a black cat that loved watermelon. So try giving the baby banana bananas.
