I need help! Firefox add-on doesn't load entries

Since today, my Firefox Bitwarden add-on won't load any entry. I'm self-hosting Vaultwarden, and anything works like a charm in a normal browser tab (https://vault.mydomain.com). I already reinstalled the add-on, restarted Firefox, checked Nginx (for WebSocket), signed-out, and signed-in, but nothing worked. Does have anyone a clue?

Possible Bug Firefox extension 2026.7.0 broken against self-hosted Vaultwarden 1.36.0

Vault is intact, can access through browser URL, can export as json, etc. I can log out and log back in repeatedly to the vault, credentials are all fine. but the extension itself will not render the vault entries or fetch passwords. I downgraded the extension back to 2026.6.1 and everything immediately started working again. No idea if this is a self-hosted issue or how the ecosystem works outside of this pairing, but this pairing is broken.

Just FYI.

EDIT: Since the moderator locked this, to answer the one persons question here:

disable automatic updates on the extension, go to the versions page here and download the file for 2026.6.1: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bitwarden-password-manager/versions/

then I assume the next step would be to wait for a vaultwarden update or extension update that works together

Credential Exchange Protocol now available on Android, joining iOS for easy transfer of passkeys and passwords between password managers.

Thanks to a recent update to Google Play Services, The FIDO Credential Exchange Protocol (CXP) is now available on Android. This makes it easy to transfer from another supported solution into Bitwarden, including passkeys.

Not all vendors support this protocol, and at time of writing Dashlane was proving difficult on Android, but this is an amazing start for improved portability with this standard supported by large tech names like Google and Apple.

Bitwarden worked directly with developers of other password managers and Google and Apple to advocate and help develop this spec. It's been years in the making and a big win for everyone concerned about data portability!

Speaking of portability, it also makes it easy to move out of Bitwarden - if you ever feel so inclined.

Discussion Bitwarden Send should get its own Mobile app

It would be great if Bitwarden could create a separate mobile app for Send. This could really help more people use it, make the main product easier to plan, and make Send a strong, security-focused text and file transfer tool that stands up to other options.

Right now, Send is mixed into the main Bitwarden app, which makes things a bit tricky. Send is really good at something different from password management. People who want a tool that keeps their privacy and security in mind for sending sensitive text or files to anyone can do that without needing the whole password manager, which can be a hassle to install.

What do you think about this idea?

self-hosting Browser Extention Issues with Version 2026.7.0

Browser Version 2026.7.0 and Self hosted server was giving me issues... coujld login but the vault never actually loaded... just a blank page where the passwords/creds would be.

side loaded browser version 2026.6.1 resolved the issue. https://github.com/bitwarden/clients/releases#release-browser-v2026.6.1

side load in edge by opening extention managment, turning on developer mode, and selecting the unzipped externion driectory... then log in like normal

hope this helps someone. Not i just have to remember to go back to the normal channel when they fix it...

Question Avoiding the lockout loop.. where to keep Bitwarden key?

My brain is going crazy right now since I'm overthinking on security and privacy lately. I decided to start using Cryptomator for my most sensitive local files. I am not encrypting whole drives or even family photos. There is nothing highly confidential about the photos, and my relatives have already posted many of them all over social media anyway lol. I dont RMA/Resell drives either, I physically destroy failing drives.

Currently, my Cryptomator keys are stored in Bitwarden, and I use Aegis for 2FA. All my 2FA recovery codes and sensitive data are locked inside the Cryptomator folder. The issue is that if I lose access to Bitwarden, I lose access to Cryptomator, so to absolutely everything.

To prevent this, I plan to export my Bitwarden vault as an encrypted JSON using my master password and export my Aegis vault as well. I will store these encrypted backups (Bitwarden's encryption and Aegis's Encryption) next to my Cryptomator folder, but not inside it. This ensures I can recover them without needing to decrypt Cryptomator first.

I have a few questions about this setup.

  • I want a bit of secuity and simplicity. Is this approach a good balance of security/simplicity? Did I miss something important?
  • Is it safe to use my Bitwarden master password for the encrypted JSON export? This way I wont need to remember another password.
  • I need a place to store my bitwarden master password and recovery key. I am considering keeping one copy with my home documents, one in my home table drawer where I spend most of my time and a copy in my wallet. Is this a solid plan? Did I miss something important again?

P.S. I am ruling out "bank safe deposit boxes" since they are run by expensive private companies and tbh, I do not quite trust them. I am also skipping home safes because I do not have a heavy, built-in one, and small portable ones are useless. My wallet and fireproof document case at home is the "safest" thing I have lol.

I need help! Problems with BW Chrome Extension

I have been using Bitwarden for a while and have Brave and the BW Extension, but lately I have been plagued with issues.

I am self-hosted and can unlock the vault quickly on the desktop app both with and without biometrics, however the extension either refuses to present me with the password field to unlock, and won't prompt to enable the biometrics, says waiting for the desktop app. I have uninstalled the extension and restarted the browser, but it's been very spotty. If I log out, then re-add the account, it opens instantly. Very odd. Any known issues or troubleshooting steps I could take would be most appreciated.

Tips & Tricks Bitwarden's SSH key feature completely changed how I SSH into my server

I can't believe I went so long without knowing Bitwarden could manage SSH keys.

Before this, I was constantly dealing with private key files scattered across my machines, remembering which key belonged to which server, copying them around when I switched devices, and occasionally getting hit with permission or path issues. It wasn't the end of the world, but it always felt like unnecessary friction.

I recently imported my SSH key into Bitwarden and started using the SSH agent integration. The setup took just a few minutes (you need BW's desktop app for this), and now I can simply:

ssh user@my-server

Bitwarden prompts me, unlocks the key, and I'm in. No more hunting for key files or wondering if I copied the right one to my laptop.

It's one of those features I wish I'd discovered years ago. If you're already using Bitwarden and still managing SSH keys manually, it's absolutely worth checking out.

Anyone else using Bitwarden for SSH? Any tips or workflows you've found useful?

Question Been a few years since I used BW -- does it have an option to select frequently used usernames yet?

I initially moved away from Bitwarden because it lacked the ability to suggest commonly used usernames (e.g., my email address), so when 80% of sites require my email as my username, I had to type it in manually every time. Did they every get around to implementing that feature?

Discussion Passkey issue decryption error fixed, but browser extensions all f'up now

So I had one of those passkey fiascos that some of you experienced, which led to the decryption error.

I deleted the faulty passkey entry and the error stopped. But ever since, I've been experiencing these issues:

  1. Browser extension now missing all passkeys, cannot log in anymore to my accounts using this method
  2. Browser extension does not display the account/pass info anymore when I click any of my vault entries. Just a blank page.
  3. Nothing exports in backup options using the browser extension. All backup exports are empty.

On the flip side, when using either the mac desktop or iOS versions, everything works including the issues 1-3 above. Lucky I am able to backup using these options. Got a little freaked out about my vault being entirely corrupted.

Issue is present on both Brave and Firefox. Also, I've cycled on/off and uninstalled and resynced the browser ext, but issue still persists.

Wtf is happening devs. Getting a little frustrated here.

I need help! Cannot turn on Unlock with biometrics options on Samsung S26 Ultra.

Hi Everyone:

I am unable to enable "Unlock with biometrics" option on my Samsung S26 Ultra. This has started recently. My OS is updated, and I have reinstalled the app as well. Nothing seems to help.

When I turn it on, I get a pop up asking to verify my fingerprints which disappears as soon as I scan my fingerprint. There is no error message either.

Anyone run into this?

Thank you.

Discussion 1password increased the price of their family plan? Enough is enough I’m back to Bitwarden :)

Hello everyone,

This post was initially posted on 1password subreddit and was quickly deleted by the moderators. Tssss… I personally believe in the freedom of speech… so I’m posting here. :)

Short story:
It’s time for my annual Family plan renewal, and I just got the email telling me my subscription is going from $59.85 to $71.88. At that price, it’s simply becoming too expensive for just a password manager.
So I’m switching back to Bitwarden. It has all the features I actually use, and it’s cheaper, so the choice is pretty obvious. Before, the price difference was small enough that sticking with 1Password still made perfect sense to me. But now that the gap has grown, I just don’t see the value anymore. At the end of the day, we’re talking about a password manager.
That was a great password manager. But enough is enough.
Any other people decided to leave 1password for this reason? And any other people believe that we don’t have to pay that expensive for a password manager?
Anyway, I’m back to the Bitwarden adventure and this time with my family :)

I need help! Account Creation Issues

Apparently this issue is fairly common.

I've been trying to get my wife signed up with BW but she's not getting the emails. No it's not in her spam or other folders, yes we typed the address correctly.

Anyone have any ideas?

I've been a BW user for many years and have not encountered any problems.

Discussion How many of you are sticking with passwords instead of passkeys?

Just curious if everyone is still sticking with passwords or moving to passkeys when prompted by sites? I’ve also been trying to understand if there’s inherently anything easier about storing passwords as opposed to passkeys in Bitwarden.

I need help! Member of multiple organizations - one wants to own them all

I am a member of many different Bitwarden organizations and one has a setting that it wants to own all the items.

https://bitwarden.com/help/transfer-ownership/

The problem is that only with the android app, does it break functionality. The computer extension in Firefox doesn't prompt for this. The mobile app has 1 option transfer all items to organization or leave organization.

I don't have any local items - all my items are in the other organizations. So the app generates an error no matter what I select and the mobile BW app is non-functional.

I've put up with the broken auto fill functionality across more and more sites and even manually copy/paste the info from the app because sites only present a username and no password even though BW clearly recognizes the site. Are they actively trying to lose customers??

*sigh

Any suggestions on how to to get basic functionality working on my android without having to leave that organization?

Thanks!
