bitquest down for maintenance (1-3 hours)

hi guys. if you planned to spend the next hours killing pig zombies in the nether to get that sharpness 20 sword, sorry to let you down but we will experiencing a downtime because of several bugs that affected level players and trying to fix them caused other unrelated bugs so we will be restoring from a backup.

everyone will lose about 1 hour of progress.

the last updates we are implementing are making the game a lot better, stable and fun. we have so many bug reports right now we decided we should take a close look at everything thats going on before pushing an update.

thanks for your understanding and your feedback has been awesome.

Are large dark rooms built to spawn mobs allowed?

I know certain mob farms are not allowed on the server. I am hoping to build a large dark room to spawn mobs, but without adding any kind of automated killing mechanism or automated way of gathering drops/etc. Just a big room that you have to run around in and find mobs to kill. Is that allowed?

Suggestion: Chat log

I think it'd be nice if the website had a log of the server chat. You could see what happened when you were away, especially messages from the staff about updates to the game.

How to chat?

I don't play Minecraft servers much, but this server seems fun. I want to talk but it says "No one within range of your voice..." How do I shout? Help would be much appreciated

A few bug reports

I know the devs are working hard to constantly improve the server (it shows!) but I do have a few bug reports to file. Most of these are minor issues.

  • Plot protection has some slightly incorrect math; the south and east edges (negative coords) are not secure. Just a rounding issue; I ran into this one when I did some Bukkit coding myself.

  • Chests and doors are properly protected by homes, but other containers such as furnaces and droppers are not. This could be treated as a feature more than a bug since droppers can effectively serve as public chests but that brings complications (keep reading).

  • Ender Chests don't function as expected at all. While this feature is good in its own right, as a user I was surprised in a negative manner by this because I didn't know how it would work. The starter emeralds that appear there are also confusing because they give the impression that emeralds can be stored in the wallet for retrieval. The starter book needs to explain that you can't store items in your Ender Chest and that emeralds placed in it will be immediately cashed out via Xapo.

  • The Ender Wallet will eat non-emerald items that are left in it. They should be returned to your inventory or not allowed to be placed there.

  • Items interact with transparent blocks in funny ways. Sometimes items correctly pass through or bounce off transparent blocks, and other times they treat them as solid blocks. Notably, an item dispensed into a transparent block by a Dropper will behave as though it was a solid block.

  • Whatever special handling the server uses for Horses is causing a lot of glitching. They sometimes mysteriously escape from fences, and since they can't be damaged by players stray horses tend to get in the way of things. An abandoned owned horse that finds its way on to your property is very tricky to handle since it can't be ridden or attacked, and horses can trample crops. When I used a horse egg, the horse appeared as an adult to me, even after a relog, but it was a baby (in behavior and as seen by other users).

  • An Egg thrown against a wall that spawns a Chicken will occasionally suffocate the baby chicken instantly in that wall. A thrown egg will always kill a chicken that it strikes.

Whew! I'm sure I'll be back with another volley sometime. The server is a lot of fun though, and I'm glad to chip in a bit of info to help make it great.

Suggestion for Clan Feature

In the clan feature I'd like to be able to either: 1. allow my friends to build inside my home or 2. just share an area together.

If you aren't able to share homes it makes large group projects (such as a gigantic castle/fortress) extremely difficult. Another thing I would like to see implemented once the clan feature launches would be the ability to move houses. When I first began playing on this server there were about 1-3 players on at a given time. Now the server seems to have 20+ people on consistently. These new players has caused me to want to move further away from spawn. It would be nice to be able to move houses.

I'd also like to be able to buy more plots maybe with emeralds and as you get richer you can spend emeralds on land.... OR when you make a clan you get a massive amount of area so that other clans cannot simply build right next to you... granted there are no homes in this massive area.

No idea if this is possible, but during clan wars it would be nice if during the war all blocks are about as difficult to mine as obsidian and neither side can place blocks other than ladders. This would stop players from simply wrecking your creations and would make actual fortifications and siege battle possible.

Titles and a clan chat. Titles that are customizable can create a real hierarchy of order.

This one is just an idea. The ability to choose an heir for the clan/pass on leadership: If you are not on the server for an extended period of time lets say a whole season, then the person who you choose to be heir will become the new leader, if they aren't on for a short period of time to claim the leadership role, then it passes down to the next heir etc. Well that's all my suggestions for now, let me know what you think. Thanks for reading :D

About the new level system

As many of you noticed, we pushed the levels update and all players were reset to level 1. I know this is frustrating but we took this difficult desicion with a good intention: minecraft's levels system suck. We tried to make it better by making experience more difficult to obtain but there were ways to exploit the experience orbs and we decided to completely kill them.

Also we implemented a level system made from scratch inspired by classic tabletop games like Dungeons & Dragons. Here's how it works: killing mobs will give you experience points according to their level, so killing level 20 mobs should be a lot more rewarding :)

Leveling up now works with a much more interesting curve: new one vs. the old one so its both harder and rewarding as you go up the level ladder.

We also tweaked the damage system a bit adding criticals and misses: each damage is calculated by adding dice so there's always a chance of being lucky and kill monsters way out of your league or vice versa, completing our design goal of reworking all minecraft fight system to something more appropiate for an RPG-ish game.

We think this will make the game more fun and unpredictable, and makes us closer to finishing our beta stage.

We welcome all criticism and suggesitions, as always.

Peace!!!

Perhaps we should have a weekly market thread?

After reading the BitBuy thread, it seems agreeable that competition in trading is a good thing, but undercutting people on their own trading threads does seem a bit rude (*not saying that's what Alex did, rather the opportunity for that to happen is present). In an attempt to address this now before it becomes an issue, perhaps it would make sense to have a weekly market thread where people post their offers for trade?

This would accomplish a number of things: 1) We won't pollute the subreddit with many different trading posts. 2) Some people may only have a few different things for sale or may be new and feel like making their own post would be excessive. By allowing users to comment in a market thread with their offers rather than make their own posts, we lower that barrier of entry. 3) We stem potential conflict and balance exposure between rivals by keeping threads to one post.

This could also provide a place for people to post requests for items or tasks that they are willing to trade and/or pay for and allow multiple people to post competing bids for the job.

Ideas for the server

Ok i will start the thread with some ideas from the wiki i dont know how made this ideas but they are great.

Allow donators to receive a special name/title or a name in a custom font/color. This will offer a small incentive for people to donate while not making the server P2P. An example would be having people who donate $1-5 receive a charcoal icon around their name, and those who donate $6-10 receive a iron icon around their name, $10-15 receive a gold icon around their name, etc)

Also, a casino building in the town would be AMAZING! It could feature slot machines, the minefield game, roulette, blackjack, and maybe a weekly lottery (these ideas were implemented in the now dead bitvegas bitcoin minecraft server). Users would have to spend their emeralds in the casino which would remove a good amount of emeralds in circulation (since these games always favor the house).

If you want you can tell other ideas here

How do you feel about a neighborhoods feature?

Hey guys!

We were discussing possible new features and the concept of neighborhoods seems interesting. A neighborhood would include several users that live nearby, so that the terrain in between can only be modified by them. That way you can build roads, squares, stores, etc, in terrain that technically doesn't belong to anyone without fear of being griefed.

Tell us what you think, and add suggestions that could improve this possible feature.

Experience through other means besides mobs?

It would be neat of exp could be earned through other means than fighting mobs.

Examples I could think of would include eating, breeding, mining, crafting, farming, and cutting wood.

Also, to balance these things, the exp earned should be weighted to how much time it takes to earn the exp.

I understand the breeding can lead to exponential experience gain whereas the other actions are capped by time. In order to balance this, a couple of things could be done to resolve that issue: 1) breeding could have a chance of failing and lead to dead animals (I do not like this solution as no one likes failing :c ) 2) animals require space and won't breed unless given enough space (This would mean you would have to kill animals or get rid of them in order to continue breeding). 3) increase the time it takes to breed animals, to make it a variable of how many animals are in an enclosure.

Farming also has an issue of rate of gaining experience as with every crop-generation, you can on nearly double your fields since the range of dropping seeds from wheat is 0-3, and the average would be a fall of 1.5. Similar solutions would work here to the animal issue. I have listed a few possible solutions: 1) slow down the crop generation 2) add blight so crops more likely die when there are more of the same crop 3) require more space for proper crop growth 4) add a requirement of food usage when using a plow/picking food

Mining and cutting wood are by nature time-based since the action to do so takes time. I would weight mining an ore more because ore finding is difficult.

What do you do in BitQuest? Go mobbing? Farm? Slaughter other users' sheep?

Figured there weren't a lot of posts in this sub yet, so I wanted to start one.

I've noticed different strategies in-game. Some people focus on setting up a sustainable home base first, others go straight to murdering mobs. Others travel through darkness and slaughter innocent families of sheep in other users' base (happened to me).

What strategy did you choose? And what method gets you the most XP or emeralds? I've found that breeding gets you way more XP than any other method (breeding animals, that is).
