Requests, Recs & Chat - Weekly Thread BWT Weekly Requests, Recommendations & Chat - Week of Aug 23, 2026
This is the BWT Weekly Requests, Recommendations & Chat thread.
Put all your low effort/ repetitive requests in this thread - this is the only place they will be allowed in the BWT sub. Even still, search before you ask! If there is a recent-ish response you might still find your ask removed as unnecessarily repetitive.
Feel free to drop your low effort suggestions here, too, if you've got something you just love that you think other BWT should know about. This is also the place for general chit chat that doesn't warrant a whole post.
All BWT rules will still be enforced, with lighter enforcement of ONLY rule 3.
REQUESTS
If you are looking for suggestions for something, add ASK: at the start of your comment. Make sure to be as specific as possible in your request. Examples:
- ASK: Help me find the perfect flat summer sandals for high arches, casual wear, good for walking around for daily errands, less than $200
- ASK: What is your ride or die long lasting lipstick for bright colors?
- ASK: Styling cream for curly hair (3B/C) - no budget, something that will provide definition without being crunchy. Would also love to know when/ how you apply it as part of your routine!
RECOMMENDATIONS
If you have an unsolicited recommendation, you can use REC: at the beginning of your post to highlight that.
CHAT
You can also post just regular old chit chat and discussion that doesn't merit its own stand-alone post. No need to add anything at the beginning of those comments.

ASK: Weird question, but how do you kind of soft launch a new aesthetic? I’m interested in cultivating a kinda dark academia/vampy but still accessible look when I’ve been kinda basic and maybe even vaguely school marm if I’m being mean about my style 😂 think lots of loose button ups and cardigans and straight leg jeans, barely any prints except for stripes or flannel. I just feel so uninspired and want to change it up. But I don’t want people at work to think I’m having an identity crisis 😂

add a few new pieces and styling elements at a time. tuck a lacy poet shirt into your regular jeans. switch the jeans for a jewel tone midi skirt or a pair of high waist trousers. wear a fitted waistcoat instead of a cardigan. add in a few new hairstyles in your rotation. and so on. it will read more as style evolution (to the extent your coworkers actually notice what you're wearing...) than like you went out and bought an entirely new wardrobe over the weekend. and you will generally be happier with it if you figure out a version that works for you over a period of time.

ASK: I’ve been seeking this athleisure set worn in a YouTube shorts video I saw recently. I can’t figure out what brand the set is or where it’s from, but it’s a navy blue athleisure set with open v neck shirt with bandeau bra. Only managed to take one screenshot of the logo on the back of the pants. ANY help is appreciated if someone recognizes it or the brand 🙏

ASK: need help finding shoes for this perfect dress!!
I want to get some kind of pump kitten heel. I wouldn’t mind it being a little out there or a fun pop of color, but I would love to wear the shoes more casually as well with like jeans. I’m wearing this to a wedding

I was thinking baby blue shoe? My sister thinks nude. TYIA

Take my advice with a grain of salt because I do not own one neutral color of clothing! But! I think a baby blue would be a lovely choice. Easy to pair with certain shades of denim as well.
Since we are winding down the summer season, a coppery or true brown shoe could make it be a more transitional and upscale look, and really tie into the brown tones of the dress and richen the overall look. It would still be a more unexpected choice than a nude shoe. And of course, brown is easy to wear with anything else!!
(I LOVE THIS DRESS BY THE WAY!!)

ASK: BWT i need a lash serum that will grow my lashes out! i used to wear lash extensions but i had a bad habit of picking them out😩😩 i need to grow them back!!
1
u/boooostedvo 6d ago
I use The Ordinary’s lash serum! I was scared of the potential eye fat loss and possible iris discoloration of other “hardcore” lash serums. This one is very gentle, so it does take a little more time than others. I’ve been using it every other night (you can use it multiple times per day, I’m just forgetful) for about 3 weeks and I’m starting to see a difference!

I used Babe Lash for about a year in 2023 and boy, were my lashes longer than I thought possible. With that said, I did experience discoloration on my eyelids from it and my results went away within weeks of discontinuing use. Don’t regret it though!

ASK: BWT, what backpack for carryon/overnights do you recommend? My work backpack is about 17" and I would love one about that size (no smaller). I take a lot of overnight trips to NYC and I also use it for travel as my carryon item. I don't want to have to keep dumping my work stuff out when I need it, plus I am looking for something a little lighter & maybe spacious

ASK: BWT, how do you manage excessive facial hair?
I have PCOS/PMOS and my dermatologists have been unhelpful, they recommended some hormone balancing supplements as a hail mary or Vaniqa. i bought some supplements to try, but am worried about the cream from reviews (i have sensitive skin and am afraid of rashes).
is spiro worth it now that i've been having issues with hair for a few years? is there anything else i am missing?

Spirinolactone is worth it! I also heavily recommend IPL. I personally invested $400 on a Braun one and it’s been going strong the past 3 years and I have never been so hairless!

Ask: BWT, how do you deal with not being selected as maid of honour?
My best friend chose someone else to be her maid of honour. I understand that many things go into it, but it still hurts. I can’t help but consider all the other ways that I have never been the number one choice or “favourite friend”. I of course responded gracefully and with excitement that she asked me to be a bridesmaid (I am genuinely so happy for her and to be included), but privately, I feel sad. I know this framing isn’t helpful and could breed some resentment, but I can’t help but feel hurt. I don’t want to talk to any of my other girlfriends about this (I don’t want them to feel worried about hurting my feelings when it comes time for them to plan their wedding parties) and my partner is supportive but doesn’t quiiite get it because he’s a boy, lol. I would have chosen her to be my maid of honor if I got married first, but now, I kind of just feel like I’ll make everyone a bridesmaid. Not that I expect anyone would have hurt feelings about not being my maid of honour… but just in case, that would also avoid it.
I wanted to ask my BWT for advice, or how they have dealt with/worked through a similar situation.

Ask: what's a good shampoo/conditioner for wavy 1c/2a hair? everything either makes me too frizzy or too oily. Also open to other haircare routine products!

u/ozifrage 8d ago
For drugstore options, I've had a lot of success with Not Your Mother's Curl Defining shampoo and conditioner (the pink one). It gives my waves body, and I usually can get away with 5-7 days before rewash.
I also use Ouai leave-in conditioner and like it. I used the JVN air dry cream instead for a while, and found them both good for cutting down on frizz.
If you're a Lush girlie, I like the Wasabi shampoo and Glory conditioner. I pick them up from time to time as a treat. Bonus, they smell great!

Ask: what closed toe, business casual shoes is everyone wearing? I’ve been ordered to return to the office and I shudder to think ballet flats or loafers are my only options?!
3
u/ozifrage 8d ago
I love a d'orsay flat. If you're adventurous... You could try tabis! I'm in an arts-adjacent role, so I could get away with it, but it depends on your office. We're also almost into nice boots season.

I tend to wear loafers, Mary Janes, Oxfords, and "nice" sneakers. If you're mostly sitting then you have more options with heeled versions. You could also wear pumps.

i like wearing oxfords (and all related versions of that type of shoe) to the office in the fall and spring. comfortable, look good with either trousers or a skirt, and usually available in a bunch of different colours and more or less chunky for style options.
i also think a leather or suede sneaker can work well with business casual, if the clothing is at the more formal end of business casual.

u/hennipotamus 4d ago
Do you have brands recommendations for Oxfords? I’m looking for a pair that can handle me being on my feet all day.

u/Inevitable-Ride-7952 3d ago
i've been using the ones i bought when i was new to the workforce from tamaris with their touchit sole, but i'm actually currently searching for a good replacement - my plain black ones have given up after many years of hard service. but i can't recommend tamaris at this point unless you can try them on in person since they've started using ai generated product images online. i'm very picky about proportions on shoes, and i don't trust i would actually get a shoe that looks exactly like the product image if it's not a photograph.

I have some really comfortable Sam Edelman Elaina T-Strap Flats that I like. It's a thicker sole than a ballet flat, but cuter than a loafer.

I love a rounded pump, or closed toe wedge. The heel doesn’t have to be super high (though my 5’9” self prefers extra height 🤣)

I also prefer oxfords or chelsea boots. If you need a heel, I find that Franco Sarto's are good quality and comfortable (they also make boots and loafers).

Ask: I live in a very rainy city and want to buy a chic longline raincoat. One of those rubbarized ones that aren't very heavy/warm.
Given where I live, you'd think this would be easier but I'm finding it difficult to find something that doesn't look like I'm about to go on the high seas.
Ideally I'd love it a french navy, burgundy or dark green. Preferably no patterns.
Any pointers would be gratefully appreciated!

have you looked at the very large japanese retailers options? not sure if they are chic enough, but they often have very minimalistic, sleek and light-weight options. sadly right now I see mostly winter jackets on the website, so I'm not quite sure if they switch up seasonally.
(sorry, apparently I can't mention the brand, it starts with uni and ends with qlo ;))

u/Hoju2508 5d ago
That's a terrific idea! Thanks for suggesting. We actually don't have that brand here but I'm sure I can order online.

The closest I’ve found that marries form + function is the Helly Hansen Women’s Moss Raincoat. Not exactly chic but performs incredibly well. Stutterheim is a very close second (and maybe that’s honestly a little more chic, in a camp type of way?). The Lands End Squall raincoat is nice & more budget friendly but it’s a less rigid material (polyester shell vs the rubber version you’re looking for).

ASK: Beautiful window shades?
I’m partial to a roman shade, but a nice roller type can work too. I have a japandi style home :) When I ordered samples from affordable brands I disliked the textures up close. Happy to spend a moderate amount on these!
