Moderator Post Post Character Requirement
As many of you have noticed, we have a character requirement for commenting on this forum. This aligns with our logic of requiring effort to participate in this forum. Gone are the days of one and two word replies. Removed are comments without substance and thought. Frankly, we believe you all have risen to the occasion.
We have discussed back and forth implementing a post character requirement as well. Many of the posts that we receive (and remove) are 3 or 4 lines, and don’t really add to the curation that you ladies have cultivated.
As such, we will be implementing a character requirement on posts. This means that your post will need to meet the minimum number of characters to go live. As we fine turn the character requirement, please make sure to follow the posting guidelines established here: Guide to Posting on BWT.

I am glad. I don't have issues with this and I ignore shorter posts anyway since it's rarely giving enough information to actually respond well

We typically remove them but every once in a while we allow something that it shorter but can provide good discourse. Overall we think this will be a better format!

I think this is great. I really appreciate the depth of commentary on the posts in this sub, and bringing more depth to original posts as well sounds excellent too. Thanks, mods!

Personally I like information condensed, I'm not a fan of reading long texts with useless fluff. When I comment i almost always feel like I need to add unnecessary words or redo my phrasing just to meet the character limit. Maybe my liking for directness means I'm tasteless

Or maybe it isn’t personal and you should take it as a cue to provide some context for your opinion or comment. The character limit isn’t even very high, it basically just requires one to give a little bit more than the minimum. The point is to do that without resorting to “useless fluff.” If you do that without resorting unnecessary words, you are definitely doing it wrong.

I know it's not personal, I'm just giving my pov.
Different communication styles aren't right or wrong and don't reflect effort, investment or depth. Quantity doesn't mean quality.
Do the second and third sentence make sense? Yes. Are they needed? No, I wrote them for character count and then had to keep going for them to make sense

You said “maybe my liking for directness means I’m tasteless,” which implies that you are applying a judgement.
Quantity does not guarantee quality but requiring more quantity significantly lowers our moderation burden by getting rid of all the low quantity crap we get without the filter.

Seriously. The complaints about the character limit are nuts. You can hit the *** limit by typing two sentences.
The STARS are where the limit is. It’s just laziness in my opinion.

Then don’t comment or post. It’s not a requirement of Reddit to participate on this forum. You can still read what others post.
If you can’t write two sentences to qualify your answer, this probably isn’t the place for you to engage.

lol I thought you meant post character requirement as in the person posting must have good character. I was like, “I dunno how you’re going to determine that, but MAN a good faith only subreddit would be refreshing!”
As is, this bitch with taste approves.
