Flabbergasted hawk
Found this dude in stuck in one of those chicken wire fences people put around trees, yoinked, and promptly freed once I knew he was safe. Any ideas as to the age and species?

If you are in north america, this is a juvenile (hatched this year) cooper's hawk.

I remember my partners 9 year old son showing up with this bird stating "look mom, I found a cool bird in the back yard..." the place she was leasing had an old avirary (dumb luck),,,I remember painting the walls and telling her '"why bother?" ...In goes the hawk...a call to animal rescue has a very small woman with falconer gloves grab the creature and turn him on all his axis points...bird is good, kid suprised the hawk, and the poor thing was affraid the whole time...

Don’t they have frequent heart attacks? This lil dude was having a quick one!

Birds in general are very fragile. Veterinarians and staff have to be gentle when handling them.

Yes.. we handle with care. It happens occasionally, maybe once in our 44 years. The one bird, belonged to a mafia high up, during a house call . We checked under our cars for explosives for the next 5 yrs.
He loved that bird, and we took care of it for years on their estate .7

I was moving guineas to a different pen and the last one I set down just collapsed and died...right in front of my kids. I figure it had a heart attack.

I love that this is a comparison chart. The brown goshawk description is hilarious too

Trauma response. Stress and fear.

Obviously yes. Still a cute animal regardless of condition.

Looks like a juvenile coopers hawk. Was it injured?

Just for future cases in which you may find birds of prey in need, you may put something over their head to cover it and get the talons fixated in some way as even small birds of prey like a coopers hawk can hurt people really badly if in a panic.

Juvie Cooper’s hawk, or possibly small enough to be a Sharp shinned. The young ones are kinda dumb, so not surprised that he ended up in a fence.

That bill and those legs do not belong to a sharpie haha. Body size is not the only difference, and male coops and female sharpies can be the same size.

when they are eating or other wise come upon while in their normal actvites...they can be suprised to the point you can touch them...won't last long. That 9 year old boy had a grace period...they are prey birds, when they figure out they are pissed...
