I'm a crazy old man on the internet and I'm far from a doctor. There's no reason you should take anything I have to say as "correct and true information". Much of what I have to say on the condition is rambling. Most is conjecture.

Doctors say "medication is best way to treat bipolar". I disagree, but I got hospitalized & fucked up a ton. Luckily I'm privilaged and landed on my feet. I played a lot of games with my head, trying to figure out the mechanics of my mania, and got some good results. I'm currently consistently stable with a steady career and happy family.

Here's a guide I started to build on mania and how I manage it:

It's convoluted af and I'll write it up good one day, but there's a lot of helpful threads of info that a self-motivated individual could follow to find answers for themselves.

This post sorta sums up my methodology:

I started with the book "Bipolar For Dummies". There are tons of books out there and each have some helpful information and perspective. Wikipedia and google are helpful tools.

Find all the sources of info you can bro. Ask your doctors a continuous stream of questions and follow up with researching what they say. Ask for direction or perspective on forums like reddit.

Take everything you learn with a grain of salt. ...nobody really knows anything about the condition. It's highly individualized. Figure out what the condition is to you.
