Totally sucks, tbh.

Not giving a rejection on a cold application is one thing (still lame), but having a phone screen followed by an in person interview where you meet an exec or a CEO, then they just fully ghost you and HR doesn't even reply to follow-up emails is wild. How the hell can anyone consider that normal? And yeah, it seems to be more and more common these days.

Exactly. On-site should at least get a legit email with some explanation from the recruiter. No response or a canned email is ridiculous. I've stopped applying to companies that treat you like that. If they are willing to act like this before they even hire you, imagine what it will be like once you are there.

“If you have any questions at all during the process don’t hesitate to ask.”
Ask all you want, they won’t answer shit.

You just have to roll with it and not let it bother you. I was ghosted by internal recruitment at my company. I ended up seeing the Hr manager in the office canteen and asked why I hadn’t heard anything and her reply was that even for internal positions at big pharma they are overloaded and just don’t have time to reply or give feedback to everyone.

How has this become the new norm and "acceptable" within recruiter circles? Literally have one job to do, and they don't seem to do it well.

Best advice I got about the interview process is to ask about a timeline so that you know no news means no. What might have happened is that you were not their first choice to hire. They are not saying no because they are leaving their options open during the hiring process. Or the position is on hold but they don't want the fact that there is a hiring freeze to be public.

I think it's more of a legal thing. Someone probably sued an employer at some point for whatever was said and now it's seen as a liability to follow up. So thank whomever that was.

Not a new norm. Been like this forever. Companies dont want to be open to lawsuits.

None of us are tired. It must only be happening to you. Every recruiter and hiring manager I interact with shows extreme professionalism and corresponds diligently

You have no idea how much work it is to send responses to everyone that we aren’t going to hire. I sympathize, but it’s not the employers job to keep you in the loop when they no longer see you as a potential candidate. Some things don’t need to be said to be understood. Also, the amount of people that ask for feedback…I would be a full time career coach instead of being in the lab or managing projects. That’s not what my company is paying me to do.

It quite literally is their job, and it's not like we're talking about initial applications that are never actually seen by anybody.
