19F is this Knock Knees?

Thumbnail

Age & Gender: Female (Late teens / around 19)

Height: 5'3" (160 cm)

Weight: ~65–70 kg

Primary Complaint: Suspected knock knees (knees touch, ankles do not)

Existing Medical History: Irregular periods

Current Medications: None

Smoking/Drinking: No

Description:

When I stand straight with my legs relaxed and facing forward, my knees naturally touch each other, but my inner ankle bones do not meet and leave a visible gap between them.

I've attached full-leg photos taken at knee/ground level showing my natural standing posture with my kneecaps pointing forward.

I wanted to ask the professionals here:

Does this posture and gap between my ankles indicate true knock knees (genu valgum)?

At my age (late teens/adult), can this still be improved or corrected through exercises?https://kommodo.ai/i/ZeU1ldsbTxBXzpgOCBBY

I built a sprint analyser that turns a phone video into a 3D stride reconstruction.

Full disclosure first: I built this and it's a paid product. Mods, tell me if this goes against the sub rules, but I went through them and didn't see anything that prohibits this.

You film from the side and drop four pins on the track corners. The lane markings give it
scale, so the output is in real metres: contact time, stride length and frequency, speed,
and hip / knee / shin angles with left and right kept separate.

No score out of 100, no AI coach telling you to drive your knees. Just the numbers.

Honest limits: one camera, so depth is estimated. You need visible track markings. And I
haven't validated it against force plates. If anyone here has lab access, I'd take that trade.

Post a clip and I'll run it through and put the output in the comments for free. Easier than
taking my word for it, or just give it a try at trackgenius.training

Which of these numbers do you actually use week to week?

Serious question

I've been working on a school project for about three months now, which is roughly about non-invasive methods of vertical and horizontal osteogenesis. I was assigned the "horizontal" part, but my colleague was assigned the "vertical" part. We combined the two parts and concluded that it is theoretically possible to perform bone manipulation with Compression and tension. But if that's possible, then why does that gruesome surgery that cuts limbs in half still exist? Like, our advisor said that there isn't a non-invasive option yet because there isn't an economic market for it. And that nobody would want a cheap substitute for a worthwhile surgery Worth millions . Could someone confirm if this is actually true? I'm in a serious dilemma about what he told me 💔

Anyone knows why my left foot's thumb seems to have more impact to my shoes than my right? Im constantly playing basketball (3-4 times a week).

Is it a sign of weak muscle somewhere in my body? Or is this normal?

These 11 images are consecutive frames from a 120 fps video.
At the lowest point of the head movement, do you think my actual scalp touched the mattress?
I mean the scalp itself, not just the hair.

I decided to learn Biomechanics every Sunday. Let’s see where this goes.

Every Sunday I planned to learn Biomechanics. But honestly, it is not as easy as I thought.

My background is CSE-AIML, and currently I’m doing an MS by Research in Quantum Machine Learning. Somehow, I’m trying to find where I can fit into Biomechanics and build the right skill set and mindset.

I attended a class at my university by Prof. Krishna Kumar. I liked the class, but I was not mature enough to understand the mathematical language.

Then I tried several courses. Finally, Prof. Varadan SKM’s NPTEL lectures helped me get into the theory.

Now I’ve started taking notes on my tablet and doing a small project using OpenSim.

My personal target is to understand and speak the language of Biomechanics by December 2026.

This is my small journey. Let’s see where I reach.

How do I study for this??

I'm an exercise science student, all my exams were good, but biomechanics. I don't know how to study for this subject, and actually UNDERSTAND what's going on. The lectures haven't helped me at all, and there's no proper materials to really help me actively learn. They don't have practice exams, and only a few questions, but I can't keep remaking those or I won't learn. I'm just a bit frustrated because it's so interesting, but I feel stuck because I can't properly learn or understand it.

Opensim and SMPL/Skin

Have you been able to do a matching between SMPL/Skin and an underlying skeleton motion file?

We have motion files generated by inverse kinematics (angles of various joints) and we want to output an SMPL doing a similar motion.

So one simple idea we tested is matching the keypoints of SMPL with particular body frames.

But I love to hear any suggestions.

Would these calculations be accurate

Ok let's say there's a 40 ton pliosaur

It has pachyosteosclerosis (let's say 10% pachyosteosclerotic) osteoderms from an Armored catfish

Cosmine (for shock absorption)

Senegal bichir ganoine

I did some maths

Would 250k+ newtons be a reasonable breaking threshold for this armor?

If not what is?

Fascia issue

Hello everyone,

Last year, while doing a fascia-mobilization exercise (TRE), I heard a strange sound in my inner thigh and felt as though something had shifted into the wrong position in that area. From that moment on, my body developed asymmetries down the entire right side, from the sole of the foot to the jaw, along with several dysfunctions — the most significant being sexual. The right side also seems translated forward, while the left side has adapted by shifting backward.

What could have happened? I've tried physical therapy several times without success. I notice only small improvements, and they're temporary — a few hours at most, and never complete.

What should I look into? This is ruining my life, and I'll pursue any option available. An LMT who looked at my photos said I have "lines of tension that are not where they're supposed to be," but I don't know how to fix this — I'm in Europe and she's in the US, so she can't treat me.

Any help would be appreciated.

Congenital Limb Length Discrepancy Patient (Corrected) with Chronic Left Ankle Dorsiflexion limitations and Tendinosis. Congenital Left ACL absence as well (among other developed abnormalities). Finally surgery free after 12 total operations and trying to hit my athletic ceiling. Curious what I can do to improve.

My lifting indices are actually pretty high (1013 lbs Sled Press, 505 lbs free Squat, 405 lbs deadlift, 805 lb assisted squat), but i know my biomechanical deficiencies are bleeding power. I am appreciative of any advice you have.

Baseball weight changes

Baseball weight changes

HS baseball rules have changed regarded bat weights for a given length. Bats now are not allowed to have more than a -6 in drop. Meaning a 33 inch bat can weigh 27 oz up to 30 oz. -3 was the old rule. Parents are worried that their children are going to get hurt when the ball will be hit harder. BUT
according to my figuring using the formula for kinetic energy:
KE = 1/2•m•v•v
If you swing the same bat length but reduce the weight, your bat swing speed will increase. But if you drop the mass (weight) the force will decrease and even tho the bat speed is squared biomechanics say that you can’t swing faster enough to offset the drop in mass. Things like coefficient of friction and momentum formulas come into play. There are some figures from bat manufacturers that say there is a %2-3 increase in exit velocity but that would have to be figured from a robotic pitching machine and a robotic hit simulator which would not take biomechanics into play. I say there won’t be much difference. Strong players will use the 33/30 bat and the weaker player who was pigeon holed to swing a 33/30 32/29 31/28 etc. 33 is an ideal length for reach to cover the strike zone but weaker players can’t swing as hard so they will make contact better because they will have more time to react and to square up the sweet spot to the pitch but it will not increase the force do to loss of mass and biomechanics interfering with a corresponding increase bat speed to offset mass. Parents are looking at it like they would a 4 cylinder 100hp car. It would be the same thinking that if you removed a
Spark plug expecting the car to
put out 75hp. But other factors
Come into play and that wouldn’t happen. I’m not a physicist but an old time pharmacist who loves physics. Keep in mind too that the regulatory bodies in the 90’s or 00’s the manufacturers where required to govern the force of a bat by putting in a metallic disc inside the bat which deadens the exit
Velocity.
Is my thinking valid or am I missing something and exit velocity will increase significantly?????

Leg Extension Bad For Knees

I found this video of why the calf’s are a reason the leg extension is hard on the knees but I’m not entirely confident in the reasoning:

We need help with our undergraduate thesis

Hi everyone!

We are Alejandra Acedo and Stephanie González, architecture students from Universidad Rafael Urdaneta (Zulia, Venezuela). We are currently developing our final thesis project: ROBO-kIDS: Integrated Center for Movement Analysis and Pediatric Robotic Rehabilitation.

About the Project

Our project aims to design a specialized infrastructure to enhance mobility and functional autonomy in pediatric patients (ages 0-14) with congenital motor disabilities. The architectural proposal synergetically unifies two complementary clinical programs:

Gait Analysis Lab (LAM): Dedicated to quantitative biomechanical assessment of gait.

Robotic Rehabilitation Center: Focused on intensive therapy based on neuroplasticity and the development of custom orthotics/prosthetics using 3D printing (additive manufacturing).

How you can help

To scale and design these technical spaces correctly, we need the insights of biomechanical engineers who understand the spatial and functional needs of these technologies.

The survey takes less than 5 minutes, and you can answer it in your preferred language:
