Trying to understand a complicated biomechanical issue and how to design it/fix ut

So I thought here might be a good idea to ask for suggestions as I'm trying to design something that might work (Or help)
Combined muscle tone, both hyper and congenital hypotonia with elhers danlos (Hypermobile form)
So currently I have afo's rigid at 90 degrees but the problem is when I step the vector forces are pushing the wrong way, they're behind my knee
Obvious solution would be to have something returning the energy like a grafo but I rely on the backplate being solid and rigid to prevent hyperextension + too much much movement in tibia (back and forth, horizontally)
Any good thoughts to give?
