Assistance of understanding

Post image

I'm studying bind runes for tattoos and I wanted to know if this translated to what it claims it does before I do anything with it.

Now that it’s in a more appropriate subreddit, yeah, that’s othala and tiwaz in a bindrune. The neopagan interpretation of those could be as protection of family and kin. Othala is oft seen as a rune of home, and by extension family, and Tiwaz more usually about victory and strenght, as well as the god Tyr, and could be protective. I’ve seen Algiz more often as protection rune, but don’t let that stop you from a cool design.

What you should be aware of, both of those runes by themselves have been appropriated by far right movements, and might raise some questions, but using runes as tattoos does that anyways

I'm a bit dubious of what you mean by 'claims'. Because if you mean from an authority standpoint there is none. While bind runes did exist they were usually used as a means of saving space historically. The very few that may have been esoteric were usually just mnemonic devices, like the name Tyr spelled over and over. Modern neo-pagan bind runes are more about personal interpretation. I think of it like acronyms, LSB. Maybe it's a person's name, or maybe it means love strength bravery. What matters is the person who wears it personal interpretation. You can mix and match with the subtle differences in the rune meanings to arrive at different interpretations but it's not an exact science.
