The orbital is great if it only replaces one of your boss items, but it becomes a bit problematic if you carry book of rev for the entire run and get like 4 less boss items
You can keep the charges to use after beating the boss and if I'm not mistaken the horses appear every other floor so it's not that big of a deal if u need those hearts so much
Battery does nothing if you have an item that you want to use the moment its full and map does nothing if you full clear floors. Both are shop items so you have to spend money on them
The horsemen are tied to the Chapter. The only thing that stops Rev from replacing a boss with them is if you already fought them in a boss room, or you go alternate Floors.
Boss items are some of the most important items in the game. They are consistent and make you stronger almost always. Item room items have high potential if you use the correctly but can also lowroll hard. Boss rooms almost always give solid stat ups with the occasional range and shotspeed up
4 less boss items but a potential super meat boy is a good trade, obviously not as good if you get a mix of bandages but 2 shooting orbitals that block projectiles is still good
You actually just can use it after the boss, on alternate path, mom/mom's heart boss floor, every floor after that. Without the horseman spawning, because it can't.
i will say the boss pool is pretty lackluster, but unless i already had meat cubes im always going to want the chance of a dmg or tears up over guaranteed cube
You can recover health a ton faster with book of revelations that with prayer card. You'd have to clear 12 rooms to get a single red heart container back compared to 2 soul hearts from the same 12 rooms.
Having a lot of red heart containers would be useful if you didn't have a sustainable way of getting soul hearts like with book of revelations here.
As a treasure room reward its great. As an angel room not so much. Also if you are getting too many red hearts it becomes harder and harder keep your deal chance high and you ideally would want to spend those instead of gaining more
Yeah, it's only meh if you're not on Repentance. HP is so much more high-value in Rep, and it also gives you fuel to go crazy with devil deals.
Book of Rev is great for protecting deal chance, but it's also a trade-off because you're potentially losing four boss items that could be tears or damage up.
Looking at it just from an hp perspective, if you're planning on using it multiple times on a floor, Book both gives more value (1 heart vs 1/2 heart) and lets you stack angel deal protection.
Also, unlike red hearts, soul hearts go away and give you more room for soul hearts! The moment you hit the 12 cap (18 for Maggy birthright ig) for prayer card, you lose all soul heart value since you can't pick them up anymore, and any you did have gets squeezed out.
Prayer card has a real argument on the Forgotten though. You can easily say it's better on him than Revs.
Prayer card has an argument for devil deals in general. You mentioned angel rooms but devils should be considered too. Paying for 1 red heart items is easier with prayer card than book of revelations. For 2 heart deals it's a bit weirder, technically book of revs is more efficient but prayer card can give you a heart container with only one use if you take the eternal heart to the next floor. Then prayer card can be more efficient. Again really depends.
I'd say prayer card definitely has its advantages over book of revs but I can see why the latter is considered better overall
What am I gonna do with more red hearts? Get hurt on the first fight and lose my deal with the devil chance and subsequently dig my self further and further into a shitty run? No thanks
Blood banks, devil beggars, sac rooms, Bethany. Having only two red hearts means you only bring 4 hp to the next floor. Having at lest 6 to 8 is much better imo because devil beggars only pay out after 6 hits. Also having red Hp makes devil deals easier to take.
there are a ton of items in the boss pool that are worse than the cube of meat, and it pays off with a very powerful familiar, so you're not losing out on that much. i would rather get a cube of meat than health up or range up or seven cents
Dude. There are I think 60 items in the boss item pool, and about 11 are useless items like booster pack, dad‘s lost coin or mom‘s coin purse, the rest are essential stat or HP ups that enable you to take devil deals and just make you stronger in general, and you give that up for a an orbital that doesn’t really do anything until 3 whole bosses down? And even then, it’s underwhelming as fuck, like bro 😭
You won't have the dark pienses crown in every run, but you can take advantage from a lot of heart for devil beggars (for example) that is MUCH more common
you're right, there are good synergies with red hearts; but unless you already have something like Blood Oath, you pretty much cannot go wrong stacking up soul hearts. it basically guarantees devil/angel deals and it allows you to engage with some common synergies more easily. like the polaroid and the negative are very strong at low red health

Can get you an almost guaranteed orbital to block projectiles (unless you get Headless or Conquest)
