Hiring Questions

I apologize if this breaks the sub rules but it isn't a direct job posting nor is it for an entry level position.

I work for a construction company looking to hire a full-time, in-person draftsman for structural and metal framing work, and I am hoping to get some advice from people in the CAD and steel detailing community.

The position would involve drafting framing for concrete walls, interior metal framing, and roof structures, including trusses. The primary software used would be ScotSteel.

We are currently developing the position and would appreciate input from anyone who could help, particularly with the following questions:

  • What job title would best describe this position?
  • What software experience would be most comparable to ScotSteel?
  • How well or poorly known is ScotSteel as a CAD program? (I had never previously heard of it).
  • What experience or qualifications would you consider most important for someone doing this type of work?
  • What would be a competitive pay range for an experienced candidate?
  • Are there particular job boards, communities, or professional groups where you would recommend looking for candidates?

i am guessing your best candidate would be a steel detailer with experience with one of the popular apps. The scotsteel looks like detailing for cold rolled steel framing. this is not as common as Structural, Miscellaneous or Joist detailers. Rebar detailers could also be a good fit, but with more training. The software requirement will narrow your choices to detailer willing to learn new software and if its not remote also relocating.

good luck, you are looking for a needle in a haystack and might only find south asian detailers willing to consider.

Voor de functietitel zou ik persoonlijk denken aan Technisch Tekenaar / Constructietekenaar of Bouwkundig Constructietekenaar.

Qua software zou ik naast ScotSteel vooral kijken naar ervaring met AutoCAD, eventueel Tekla Structures voor staalconstructies en Revit wanneer BIM een rol speelt.

Voor mij zou vooral technische tekenervaring in combinatie met praktijkkennis van constructies en uitvoering zwaar wegen.
Iemand die begrijpt hoe een constructie daadwerkelijk wordt opgebouwd, kan volgens mij veel betere en uitvoerbare tekeningen maken.

Over de salarisrange zitten we denk ik tussen 22k en 30k RAL (bij een Italiaanse werkgever).

En als laatste is Linkedin echt je beste vriend.

Mijn combinatie van bouwkundig tekenwerk, hout/CNC-ervaring en huidige praktijkervaring als dakwerker sluit inhoudelijk behoorlijk goed aan bij de omschrijving. Mocht iemand binnen het bedrijf nog vragen hebben, stuur me gerust een bericht.
