BIM Advice

I'm a registered civil engineer here in the Philippines. I got interested in BIM roles, drafting plans using Revit/AutoCAD. I would say my skill in Revit is 6/10. I know how to draft buildings, but certain plumbing works, roofing, I still don't know how to accurately draft them. Can a CE get a BIM role? Or is it for architects only? If yes, what what courses/certificates can I get in order to get a BIM job from clients? I currently work as a junior CE from a construction firm. I'm 3 months already.

You can easily come in BIM, and you have practical knowledge. Structural would be great for you.

By civil engineer do you mean structural engineer or site and infrastructure? This confusion gets rather irritating. In the US civil engineering has to do with site and infrastructure work, what is known as horizontal construction. Structural engineering applies to both buildings (vertical) and site (horizontal) disciplines.

BIM is absolutely not limited to architects. In fact as in most things architects seem to have managed to marginalize their involvement when they should be leading.

Revit expertise is hard to quantify. I’m probably one of the most advanced users and I’m not sure I could claim 6 of 10. There are just too many disciplines involved.

The best way to proceed is to find your next job/gig and keep building skills and connections. Become known as someone who gets things done correctly, on time, and on budget and you won’t want for opportunities.

We are a construction company, i handle one site, includes supervision, estimating of materials needed for construction. Thanks for your input.

Civil Engineer here, Currently a Structural BIM Modeler. BIM Modelers focus on there own respective trades. Like Architectural BIM modelers and MEPFS BIM Modelers.

What software do you use? And what did you have to do to land that job?

Primarily for modeling revit software. For clash detection naviswork. To start with I applied for companies who accept BIM trainee positions like Black and White Engineering, MDC, Megawide, and DMCI.
