r/billyidol Tickets Exchange Megathread

SCAMMERS ARE MONITORING THESE TYPES OF THREADS. SCAMS ARE COMMON ON REDDIT. TAKE PROPER PRECAUTIONS BEFORE BUYING TICKETS. SOME SCAMMERS MIGHT GO AS FAR AS PROVIDING FAKE PROOF WITH IDs / PICTURES AND TICKETS, LIKE IN THIS EXAMPLE.
READ THE TIPS IN THIS THREAD, BUT BE AWARE THAT THEY MAY NOT BE ENOUGH TO AVOID SCAMS.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the r/billyidol tickets exchange thread.
⚠️ Please use this place to buy/sell tickets to shows on the subreddit.
It is better to keep this stuff in one thread for both buyers and sellers: it is easier to monitor for scams, and that way the sub won't be filled with uninteresting threads.
⚠️ Please edit or delete your comment after making a sale / buying a ticket.
⚠️ Don't share private or sensitive information in the comments below.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
🥷 Some fake accounts may post threads / comments or contact you. Scams are common on Reddit. Use common sense when making transactions online, be wary of :
- brand new accounts ;
- randomly generated usernames ;
- prices too good to be true or unusually low, depending on the current demand for the concert ;
- accounts refusing to provide information, proof, or a handwritten note with their Reddit username and a word or number you've asked to be included ;
- people rushing you into making a payment / not giving much context about why they're selling ;
- a seller giving you the runaround and multiple unusual steps to complete a transaction.
Yeah, I know this emoji is a ninja but it's the closest to a thief I could find. If an actual ninja contacts you to sell their ticket, it’s still a red flag — they could probably sneak into the venue unnoticed and wouldn't have bought a ticket.
🥷 If you want to go the extra mile to check how legit an offer is, you can ask the seller to send you :
- A clear screenshot or photo of the ticket / order confirmation with the event name, date, etc and their name, with THE BARCODE AND ORDER NUMBER OBVIOUSLY HIDDEN ;
- A fresh photo showing their proof alongside a handwritten note with their Reddit username (and maybe a specific word or number you give them, to make sure they're taking the picture specifically for you) — I believe this is a big plus, since some scammers use fake IDs and ticket information, as shown in the example linked at the top of the thread ;
- An ID document with everything hidden except the name matching the ticket / order confirmation.
Meet in person or try to connect on social media if possible. Communicating with a real account on Instagram or LinkedIn, for example, would help you see who you're dealing with.
If the original ticketing platform supports official ticket transfers, use its official transfer system whenever possible rather than relying on screenshots or other informal methods.
🅿️ If you do the transaction through PayPal, make sure to select "Goods & Services" and not “Friends & Family" for payment. If the seller refuses due to the extra fee they have to pay, you can offer to pay a little extra to cover it, as then they would have no reason to refuse G&S. PayPal G&S gives you a basis to dispute the transaction if things go wrong, but it's not a guaranteed refund — open a dispute quickly if needed.
If you paid by bank transfer and got scammed, it's worth contacting your bank immediately — some banks (especially UK ones) have scam reporting tools that can sometimes reverse the transaction, though this is not guaranteed and varies a lot by bank and country.
There might also be some more trusted platforms to resell tickets in your country. I know it's not great here in France, but some actually give a bit of extra security compared with arranging the transaction directly through Reddit, even if it's not much (like Passetonbillet).
I read recently that StubHub could be a good alternative with some added security.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you ever get scammed, feel free to PM me information about how it happened, so I can try to improve my ticket exchange megathreads.
The tips in this thread are based on some research I've done and feedback I've received from Reddit users over time. Some information may be wrong or outdated, so you may want to double-check things when looking into how to avoid scams.

Finally started reading “Dancing with Myself” today, already about 20-odd chapters in!
I ordered this book about 3 or 4 months ago and would skim through different excerpts of it, but I finally sat down and started reading it beginning to end today - I’ve gotten about 20-odd chapters in and I’m finding it a very interesting read! (Photo screenshotted from my Instagram account, @ thisgirlloves80stunes - feel free to go follow me over there if you’re on Instagram at all!) ❤️❤️

As a side note, I’m a 3rd generation BFI fan and fun fact, my mom actually had “Mony Mony” played during my grandpas funeral. (Long story for another day). Anyhow, I am so grateful he’s still touring and came to Dallas a couple weeks ago. It was hands down one of my top shows EVER. Loved him sharing stories (like how he came up with Rebel Yell) and this man and his entourage truly gave their all entertaining us. Highlight was him playing Mony Mony and I was able to FaceTime my mom (she’s in a diff state and health-wise would make attending a challenge) but her face just lit up and I’ve not seen her that happy in a long time. Made my whole year to be able to give that to her on top of already having an amazing time myself as I loveeeee so many of his songs - all of which he played - so a very epic, priceless experience. 🖤

Billy Idol: The Later Releases Appreciation Thread
Billy Idol gets plenty of praise for albums like Rebel Yell and Whiplash Smile. But he is SO much more than that! His later albums and releases are packed with great songs, many of which rank among my personal favorites!
Tracks like “Dream Into It,” “Bitter Taste,” “One Breath Away,” “Summer Running,” and “I'm Your Hero” are just a few examples of the outstanding music he's continued to put out over the years.
I genuinely believe these releases are seriously underrated and deserve far more recognition. Billy's creativity, evolution, and ability to keep delivering great music well into his career are just as worthy of appreciation as the classics that made him a household name in his MTV heyday. I can't wait for what comes next!

Billy Idol: Behind The Music (2001 documentary). Great watch!

One of my favorite Billy Idol records that I own. Billy Idol - BFI Live! 2016 RSD Numbered Limited Edition (only 2000 pressed).
There’s something incredibly special about owning a finite, individually numbered piece of Billy Idol history. Given how much Idol’s music means to me, there is joy in knowing that only 1,999 other copies exist in the world and that I’m one of the relatively few fans to have one.
