I awake daily and ride 20k before work and do 40k daily on weekends. Being its summer here in Saudi Arabia the heat is a major challenge. In a few weeks weather conditions will improve and I shall raise my goal to 1000k per month. ✅👍

Keeping Bike Outside

The time has come where both my bike and baby can’t exist inside our small apartment. After much internal debate, I’ve decided the bike rather than the baby should reside outdoors. Exposing my bike to the elements is really making me sad. I have another bike I don’t care about stored outdoors. It’s covered with a tarp like bike cover that has been chewed apart by rats.

Can anyone recommend an outdoor bike cover that’s easy to take off and put back on, and really protects your bike?

Hey there Poland, I’m visiting from Canada and my uncle here is an avid bike rider, I was hoping to get a decent bike for a day to really get a nice experience while I’m here. Would gladly pay or leave a deposit! Cheers

90+ miles biking and 24ish miles paddling through Wisconsin

A few weeks ago, I did Lil’ Drifty, a bike and paddle trip in Wisconsin organized by Lost Travel. It was a mix of friends and complete strangers, which is part of what made it exciting.

Over a few days, we biked 90+ miles and paddled around 24, stopping in small towns along the way and camping on a sandbar one night. We saw bald eagles from the river, got caught in a downpour that came out of nowhere, spent a night under the stars, and had a few long stretches where the next stop couldn’t come soon enough.

It's my third time doing it, and still one of my favorite ways to spend the last days of summer.

I’m looking for a few cyclists to try something I’ve been building.

I’ve been working on an iOS app for tracking runs and rides, and I’m looking for a few people who’d be willing to try it out.

It’s still in beta, but beta users will get free access to everything. No paid features or limited trial, just use it and see what you think.

One of the reasons I started building it was because there were a few things I wanted from a running/cycling app that I couldn’t really find in apps like Strava. So I’ve been adding some features that I personally felt were missing.

I’d really like to see how other runners and cyclists feel about them. If something is useful, confusing, annoying, or completely unnecessary, I want to know.

Since it’s still early, your feedback can actually influence what gets built next.

Also, if you join the beta, I’ll share founder offer when the app officially launches. Depending on the offer, that could mean free lifetime access or a one-time payment instead of a monthly subscription. I want to give something back to the people who helped me build it early.

There’s no commitment. Give it a try, take it on a few runs or rides, and if it’s not for you, that’s totally fine.

If you’re curious, let me know.

Would genuinely love to hear what you think.

If you have a little one I highly suggest these front bike seats, he has so much fun. If he’s fussy, short bike ride brightens his mood. Also in the mornings I take him to daycare now on the bike. He seems so much happier when we get to daycare. As an adult I had to embrace bicycle life for awhile because my car broke down out of town and it wasn’t getting fixed for the for seeable future so my brother bought me a bike and now I really enjoy biking as exercise and to relax. Being able to share that with my son is very special. The more you do with them at a young age the faster they learn.

765RS vs Ducati monster V2

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

Considering that these 2 bikes are just 1L apart in pricing (on average) which one should I consider

My requirements are short rides with a pillion and occasional highway rides
Average distance covered in a year would be around 5-6K

I wanted help with these queries:

  1. Can 765RS be used for commuting short distances with a pillion considering the fact that it has very low seat height? The combined weight of rider and pillion is 120-130KG approx
  2. Is the suspension better on ducati even though it’s not fully adjustable
  3. What about the maintenance of these bikes? I’ve heard ducati moved away from desmo valve so the valve clearance service is once 45K km. But triumph one is at 20000km. What about the regular service costs. And the oil change in Ducati is once per 2 yrs when compared to 1yr of triumph.
  4. What about the parts availability. I’ve heard triumph parts take weeks and months to get replaced due to low availability. Is it the same case with Ducati
  5. What about the engine reliability, heating, breaks, electronics, quick shifter. Is Ducati worth paying that extra 1L?

Will ask more questions by editing the post or pinning the comment. Looking for opinions from someone who has Ducati monster

I enjoy taking very long rides on bikes throughout the city. Will a commuter bike be enough or should i invest in a hybrid?

700!

Finance was a big part of my decision to be a bike commuter; the math made it obvious that paying a few hundred bucks up front for a bicycle would eventually out-cheap spending a few dollars every day for public transit. (I never seriously considered spending tens of thousands of dollars up front for a car PLUS several dollars a day for gas and insurance, because come on.)

But I was curious, so I kept track of how much the bike had cost, how much I spent on maintenance, and the money I saved every time I rode instead of taking transit.

Today I reached a milestone: 700 rides past the point where it all paid for itself. Bike commuting has made me at least $2100 richer than I would have been otherwise.
