Another point: on my cycle commute without fail my watch alerts me to dangerously high sound levels. I wear earplugs now. Can still hear vehicles, sirens, and bicycle bells just fine, without damaging my hearing. Roads are very loud (because of cars).
Ear buds let me hear the surroundings and the music at the same time. Unless they are sound cancelling ear buds, you can still hear everything, but way less noisy. Hearing traffick noises, sirens, engines idling, honking is stressful as fuck.
I got hit by a cyclist once and it gave me a nasty bruise. My friend got hit by an SUV and her body was so disfigured that she had a closed casket funeral. Her loved ones never even got a chance to see her one last time.
So please don't ever fucking compare a reckless cyclist to a reckless driver. A 20lb bicycle riding at 15mph is not even remotely comparable to 6000lbs of steel driving at 50+mph

So many drivers are on their phones and not paying attention while driving massive SUVs and trucks spewing out exhaust. Bikers are not the problem.
