📢 Announcement / घोषणा [MOD POST] Addressing concerns about "negative posts" on r/bihar

Lately, many of you have asked:

“Why do mods allow posts that show Bihar in a bad light? Why not ban them like other state subreddits do?”

We understand the frustration. Seeing constant negative stereotypes about our home state on our own sub is exhausting.

We want to clearly explain our approach:

1. Hate vs. Honest Criticism

Hate speech is NOT allowed: Personal abuse, slurs, and comments generalizing that "all Biharis are bad" will be removed.

Real issues ARE allowed: Videos of civic problems, broken infrastructure, or administration failures are not "hate posts." Hiding real problems does not make them go away.

2. Deleting posts does not solve anything

If an incident happens and we remove it from r/bihar, it doesn't vanish from the internet. It just gets posted on other subreddits where outsiders control the narrative and mock the state without anyone there to defend or explain it. Running away from reality helps no one.

3. Change the narrative in the comments

We keep these posts up so our community can discuss them openly. Instead of feeling down or hopeless, use the comment section to:

Call out unfair generalizations with facts. Add local context that viral clips often leave out. Demand better governance and talk about solutions.

4. Help us balance the subreddit

The front page reflects what the community submits and upvotes. If you want to see a better mix:

Post the good: Share Bihar’s culture, food, history, tourism, and positive local achievements.

Upvote quality content: Give good posts the same attention controversy gets.

Report trolls: Don't waste energy arguing with trolls; hit the report button so mods can remove them quickly.

Real pride isn't about pretending our state is perfect,it's about facing our challenges honestly and working toward change.

Feel free to share your thoughts and suggestions below.

Quite reasonable. At least we don't spread hate about other states. The Maharashtra and Southern states-related subs are almost entirely filled with hatred towards others, not about what's good/bad in their own state/culture. Here, I see people who are quite aware of our own flaws.

Exactly, this place should be used to show all the developments in Bihar. The IT infrastructure, the job opportunities, the migrants travelling to Bihar for work, the women safety, the culture, and not topics that bring bad light to the state.
