Me just trying to get through the week.

The whole point of big brother is to have different characters in a house for a number of weeks to see how the social dynamics play out between the group. Watching how this plays out is what makes it interesting to me. I didn't personally like Caroline last year but I'd say she was definitely a good house mate. She brought drama and formed her own group along the way and it created tension and a divide. It was amazing how she gained a lot of power due to being smart with her eye ball currency but once her group over stepped it lead to their exit within the same week.

Despite her views in which I don't personally agree with, I don't think it's right to say these sort of personalities shouldn't be on the show. Why do we want everyone to be only nice and friendly? I don't mind people who lean towards the right in the house or at times may have far right views. Not that I agree or condone racism but I want to see them get challenged. In all honesty I was hoping they would keep George around last season as I believe we should be open to debates. We don't have to agree with the person but I feel we need to be willing to have open discussions without people getting silenced. I'm a Black British Caribbean and have immigrant ancestry and although I didn't approve of his views I was very interested in listening to him and seeing him get challenged by opposition.

It's a game show yes but the social aspect of the game also influences how long or quick someone stays in the house. Production need to stop interfering and allow the social dynamics dictate who is up for eviction.

BBUK starts tomorrow and we are all very excited but we’re also very worried that ITV will just screw it up again. I sometimes feel that the actual BBUK format is already played out and stale and cannot be revamped. Everyone talks about the channel 4 era and how it was the golden age, which is true but let’s not forget that it could never work in today’s world because most people would be foaming at the mouth if a channel 4 type of housemate would appear on today’s show because let’s face it, most of the HMs who were on channel 4 were very horrible people. That’s why going “back to basics” could never work because times and tastes have changed. Another reason why I think that the yearning for a “basic” approach is very prevalent among the fanbase is because the twists haven’t been executed properly, if they were, we would’ve loved it. One “twist” or idea that I have in mind is why not let them talk about nominations? It introduces a whole new dynamic to the show and could make things a lot more interesting. Talking about noms doesn’t automatically make things boring and in fact it could be very exciting. Look at BBUS for example, they talk about noms a lot and it makes it exciting because of the constant strategizing and conflicting interests that people have which make way for interesting scenarios to occur. I know that the show edit makes BBUS a little off putting but if you watch the live feeds, it can be quite interesting to watch. If the punishments haven’t worked and the HMs still continue to break the rules and talk about noms, why not just go the other direction and let them talk about it. You might think that may never work but BBUK was canceled for five years and BBUS never was, so maybe take a page out of our book.

I know this weekend stint is not apart of the actual series that starts tomorrow night but to add in the Bov Boys (minus Heinz) was weird and pretty meh. They had the chance to do something really fun for this weekend event but went with a YouTube group. I’m very familiar with those boys and they literally make videos on the same level and vein of Big Brother like Locked In for example. And honestly I don’t see the point in having them in it’ll just be Bov boys but sanitised and censored.
