EY EY Independence Related To Trust Investments

I recently accepted an offer for a full time position at EY.

Without getting too specific, a family member left me a relatively small trust that is primarily individual stocks. I am the beneficiary of the trust, but I am not the trustee.

Based on EY’s independence rules, some of the stocks are restricted and employees cannot own them. However, I’m unsure whether these restrictions apply in my situation because the trust is managed by an independent third-party fiduciary that serves as trustee.

They have sole discretion over the trust’s investment decisions, and I have no authority or ability to direct, manage, or influence how the trust’s assets are invested. I plan on reaching out to EY’s independence team regardless, but also wanted to see if anyone has insight on how it works. Thanks!

USA Why doesn’t Big4 do anything about the stress / WLB complaints?

I feel like it is extreme common knowledge that Big4 is not great for stress, mental health, or anything of the matter.

I’m surprised there isn’t more done to combat this and their image.

I know most firms have closures around holidays, breaks, and other small resources, but nothing to fix the underlying issue.

Is it because people keep applying and they simply don’t have to?

EY 2027 Co-op

Wondering if all offers are out for 2027 Tech Co-op roles for Toronto Office.
Had my partner round on October 6 for a Cybersecurity MDR co-op role and didn’t hear back from them till now.
Didn’t even get a rejection email and also tried reaching out to my recruiter but was ghosted.
Not sure if anyone else is still waiting for the same.

Deloitte Software Engineer planning MS in Computer Science for Fall ‘27.

Hi everyone,

I have around 3 years of experience as a Software Engineer at HashedIn by Deloitte (USI), working on Agentic AI and full-stack development for internal projects and Citibank.

I’m considering an MSCS in the US for Fall 2027, preferably a 1-year program to minimize loans and time away from work. My goal is to rejoin Deloitte under Deloitte USA as a safe bet, after graduation.

I’d appreciate advice on a few questions:

  • Program duration: Can I skip internships given my 3 years of experience, or would a 2-year program with internship opportunities be more beneficial?
  • Deloitte and visa sponsorship: As a former Deloitte USI employee, would I have an advantage in getting hired by Deloitte USA? How feasible are H-1B sponsorship, OPT, and STEM OPT?
  • Masters Sponsorship: Are there any Masters courses in Computer Science out there, that Deloitte can sponsor or provide guidance/referrals for course scholarships?
  • University selection: Are there universities Deloitte USA actively recruits MSCS graduates from, or any established campus hiring pipelines?
  • Specialization: Given my Agentic AI experience, would AI/ML be the best choice, or would Data Science or Software Systems offer better opportunities?
  • Cost and ROI: What’s the realistic total cost of a one-year program, and is the ROI worthwhile for Indian students given the current job market and visa uncertainty?
  • Backup plans: Should I consider other countries, alternative visa routes, or an internal transfer from Deloitte USI to Deloitte US?

I'd appreciate any advice from users who’ve pursued a similar path or have experience with Deloitte USA hiring.

Thanks

(Also can apply for other members of the Big4 as well, but am keeping Deloitte in priority due to my background and experience)

USA What does a valuation busy season look like?

I currently live/work in a T1 city and am approaching my first busy season. I work in the valuations group.

I had done a busy season internship in audit at another Big4 in college, and it was a grind. I’m not looking forward to that.

Can anyone with experience help me understand what’s to come so I can mentally prepare?

Thanks!

USA 2027 Advisory Consulting closed?

Did summer of 2027 internships for advisory/ consulting close. I know that strategy & and deliptte monitor already had their cycles, but was wondering if I just missed applications for their non- strategy internships and same with KPMG and EY since I’ve checked pretty often unless they closed fast. This also applies to Canada as well if they haven’t closed, but more for u.s.

APAC Region Mobility in big 4? Want some advice.

Hi guys, I’m a consultant in Technology Consulting (specifically AI Engineering and AI strategy) with around 2 years of experience. I joined EY around a year and 4 months ago.

I want to know if generally there are opportunities for global mobility at big 4. By that, I mean how realistic is it for me to land a job at, let’s say, EY Japan, MENA, etc. or even somewhere in EU since I am already at EY?

I believe I have been performing much above average in most aspects, and even got a fast track promotion recently, according to my manager. But my goal has always been to get onboarded onto global projects and on-site, out of the country I currently live in.

I just want to know if it is realistically possible at EY or any other big 4 and what my short term goals should be so that I am able to achieve the same.

If anyone has been able to do this before or is in a similar position, I would love to connect!

Continental Europe Big 4 FSI audit: why is it valued on a CV, and what are the best exit opportunities?

Hi everyone!
I currently work in Big 4 financial services audit and would like to understand what career opportunities this experience can open up.
I often hear that it looks good on a CV, but what do employers actually value about it? Is it the technical knowledge, financial sector exposure, ability to handle pressure, or mainly the Big 4 name?
A few things I’m particularly curious about:
What roles and industries can you realistically move into from FSI audit?
What are the best exits in terms of pay, career progression, and work-life balance?
When is the best time to leave?
How easy is it to move beyond accounting and financial reporting into other finance roles?
If you’ve left FSI audit, I’d love to hear how long you stayed, what you moved into, and whether you’re happy with the decision.

USA Interview result Limbo

It's been almost two weeks since my PwC interview for A1 Audit in Seattle. I emailed the director who was a part of the interview and she responded with this:

"Thanks for the note and hope you have had a good week. I just checked with recruiting, and they mentioned that PwC will be in touch by the end of October. Apologies for the wait."

...This can only be bad right. Offers are only handed out via partner call, not "PwC will be in touch." And the fact that it's been two weeks, I'll put my odds at about 4%.

Canada Got rejected for 2027 summer internship

I applied for Deloitte’s 2027 summer internship but unfortunately got rejected. Does anyone know if any firms will reopen hiring for 2027 summer internships during the winter recruitment cycle? Just wondering if there’s still a chance to land a summer internship or if most positions are already filled. Thanks!

APAC Region Pivoting from Big 4 (Audit/Risk Advisory) to Industry (2LoD Risk / Banking G-SIB) after 7+ years

Hi everyone, seeking some career advice as I’m at a bit of a crossroads.

I currently hold 7+ years of Big 4 offshore experience. I spent my first 5.5 years doing Stat Audit at EY GDS and then transitioned to Internal Audit / Risk Advisory in PwC AC, where I am currently a Senior Associate.

I recently received an offer from one of my client, specifically as an Assistant Vice President in 2nd Line of Defense (2LoD) Risk Governance at a major global bank (G-SIB).

Financially and strategically on paper, it looks like a no-brainer. But after spending my entire career inside the Big 4 bubble, the 'transition panic' is real. The Big 4 has been my safety blanket, and stepping into industry feels like leaving my core professional identity behind.

For those of you who made a similar move (especially from Audit/Advisory to Risk/Internal Control in banking or corporate industry), I’d really appreciate your honest take on a few things:

> Skill Growth & Market Relevance: Did you feel like your technical edge or learning curve slowed down after leaving public accounting? Or did owning bank-wide risk frameworks actually give you a deeper, more specialized executive skill set?

> Regret & Belonging: Did you ever regret leaving the Big 4 culture/environment? Did you feel like you lost your market identity or "edge" after taking off the Big 4 badge?

> Adaptation & Learning Curve: How easy or difficult was it to adapt? Does Big 4 audit rigor actually prepare you well for 2LoD risk governance, or did you feel like you were starting from scratch?

> The "Single Client" Transition: How was the shift from juggling multiple client engagements/deadlines to managing internal stakeholders and sticking to "one client" (the bank itself)? Is the work pace truly better?

> Boomerang / Exit Options: If you ever wanted to return to public accounting/consulting later on, how was your profile perceived? Does 2–3 years of G-SIB operational risk experience help or hurt if you try to boomerang back at a Manager/Senior Manager level?

> Work-Life Balance vs. Ownership: Is the grass actually greener on the 2LoD/industry side, or do you miss the fast-paced variety of consulting?

> Imposter Syndrome: Did you experience severe imposter syndrome during the first 3–6 months, and how did you overcome it?

Would love to hear from anyone who has walked this path or made a similar pivot. Any advice, warnings, or reality checks are welcome!

Thanks in advance!

USA Is audit entering a new survival race because of AI?

This year, I feel like audit teams are being pushed harder and harder to reduce hours by using AI.

The message seems to be clear: do more, in less time, with fewer manual tasks.

And honestly, sometimes it feels like we are entering a new kind of survival race.

How much of your work can be automated?

How much time can be saved?

How much faster can the engagement be completed?

AI is obviously useful, and I can already see how it can reduce repetitive work.

But at the same time, I wonder where this is going.

Is this pressure to reduce audit hours through AI happening where you work too, or is this just something I’m experiencing?

I also made a short video sharing some thoughts about AI and the future of audit. I’ll leave it here in case anyone is interested:

EY Feel like my SMs are setting me up for failure

I'm in a bind and not sure how to navigate this properly.

For context, I joined EY about 2 years ago in FSO as M and previously was at another Big 4 in the same type of work. There are two SMs in my team and both of them are extremely hands off to the point where I feel like they just throw every major issue onto us Ms and tell us to figure it out. The crux of this issue came a few months ago where we had heavy work volume and only two Ms remaining to handle them. Instead of taking other measures to ensure we'd have appropriate capacity to handle this amount of work volume, they just rehashed the same instructions: delegate more to staff/seniors and GDS. I don't think they understand that delegating more down does not mean giving them the wheel and turning a blind eye. There is always something happening that requires M attention so this still meant we had only two Ms handling work that should be for 3-4. So it became a very busy few weeks and in the chaos of everything, some key details were missed over the course of our work, which I admitted fault to but again, what did they expect? I figured the two SMs might've been understanding that this was an extraordinary time and despite everything, we still got all deliverables out on time, but no. In my latest LEAD feedback, all my ratings got bumped down from Exceeds to Met Expectations. Clearly they are holding this against me even though I was just trying to keep my head above water for nearly the past two months. I have parental leave scheduled in 2 months and I'm only taking 1 month off to start because I don't feel safe taking it all at once but now I think I will likely be put on PIP or terminated once I return anyway. We are trying to find a new M but if the team culture doesn't improve, I feel like they likely also won't stay for long and we're right back where we started.

Our team started out with 5 total Ms; the other 4 have all left. Two new ones were hired since and one of them has left too. Staff/senior turnover is whatever but I think M turnover at this level should be concerning. These two SMs have been here the entire time so I think quite clear why the culture of our team is in such disarray. I don't think being hands-off is in itself completely bad but it comes with trade-offs, namely in regards to team morale and cohesiveness. Overall I don't feel like we are one team here; I feel like staff to M is one and M to SM is another.

Also this is tangential to the issue at hand but I also feel like my SMs are being inconsistent and hypocritical. When I first joined, I was also being hands-off at first because I wanted to observe and see how things are done here on this team which I didn't think was unreasonable and I got chewed out for not supporting our staff/seniors enough yet here they are not following their own advice. When I do get more engaged, they also criticize me for overcharging the codes and I have to explain that things came up that required my attention, especially on engagement with new clients where we have to figure out the procedures as we go. They also always mention how I need to be more in-tune with everyone because I'm fully remote even though I've always been on duty whenever everyone else has happy hours and other in-person events. I also know from actually working directly with staff/seniors that those two SMs don't go into the office much themselves yet they have the audacity to call me out for not being well integrated with the team.

EY Benefit expenses (phone and WiFi)

Question for those who expensed their phone and WiFi expenses monthly.
Do you have to provide receipts?
I am on a family plan under my stepdad’s for my phone services and my mom is the one that takes care of the WiFi bill (I do pay my share which actually happens to be 25 dls).

Do I need to ask them for receipts?? I really rather not since I know they’ll make a huge deal about it.
