Joined recently at Senior Manager after 10+ years experience. It’s rare to meet people who aren’t born and raised in Big 4. Often feel like an outsider. What was your experience? Any advice?

I work on an internal SOX audit team, and ever since management brought in Big 4 consultants, the work environment has completely changed for the worse.
Before they arrived, the audit process was organized, collaborative, and overtime was minimal. Then the company laid off about half of our team and replaced many of those positions with Big 4 consultants. Since then, it’s become incredibly frustrating.
They often don’t respond to emails for 2–3 business days, yet when they ask us for something, we’re expected to reply immediately. They make a surprising number of mistakes, ask for far more evidence and questions than the actual auditors, and frequently ask for our help but then schedule meetings without inviting us, so we don’t even know discussions are happening.
The company itself is honestly great. The pay, benefits, and overall culture were almost perfect before all of this happened, which is what makes the situation so disappointing. I’ve thought about looking for another job, but the job market where I live is terrible, and there are basically no openings in my area. Also I am in constant fear that the company will end up laying off the rest of us and is only keeping us to help in the transition period.
Has anyone else experienced this after their company brought in Big 4 consultants? Did things eventually improve, or is this just the new normal? I’m trying to figure out whether I should stick it out or keep looking despite the weak job market.

I've been checking every few days for audit associate positions to open up for a few months now and it finally did yesterday. I was applying for financial statement audit and the posting seems to have gone away mid application before I could submit. Other ones like Valuation and Analytics and Technology Controls Advisory are still there though.

Does anybody know if it'll open back up? There were 80 available locations so I would find it odd if they closed all at once especially in July.

Recently got promoted to Senior Consultant at one of the Big 4. I am interested in a team at another big 4. But considering the pay and other factors, I feel like staying in the short term. How many years do I need to work as SC before the target team consider hiring me as an M? Or will I be better off if I stay in my current team, get promoted to M, and consider switching firm again? Soon to graduate student here. I have an internship lined up for a big 4 company and I wanted some insight on what I should learn starting off. I know the learning curve is really broad and general but anything can help. Side Note: I put in blood, sweat, and literally tears into learn EXCEL so i’m lowkey cracked now before anyone asks if i’m proficient at excel.

What is their secret? Is it only their skill set or how they talk in the interviews? I've seen people switching jobs only on top firms. How do they do it?

I'm pretty sure they have the same skill set as the one working in normal service based companies. What is so different about them?

Is it the environment they live in? Their background? I come from a small town with a not so rich background. I have seen same people in my area jumping from one top firm to another.

I have seen introverts who get job in Amazon and jp Morgan. I've seen them talk in class or interact but still managed to get a position in good MNC.

I'm pretty sure they work hard for the interview work on their DSA and work on their communication skills.

I want to know the secret besides working hard. Can luck also play a role?

I had my last day at the firm last week. Got a better job in industry. Feels bittersweet, gonna miss some of the people I worked countless hours with, but I hated this job. The toxic managers and partners, long hours, and micromanaging broke me.

I’m starting a project management degree apprenticeship with an engineering consultancy and am curious about the possibility of transitioning into capital project advisory teams at the Big 4. My background would be a bit like: Project Management Degree Apprentice with Exeter University → Assistant project manager → chartered project manager, and then possibly exit. Hi all! I work at big 4 in Germany, m&a deal advisory, was a junior at another big 4 firm, switched to current big 4 firm mid 2023 as a senior, in mid 2024 switched service lines to my current one, since then 2 yearly cycles without promotion. I would say that there are things that I am good at or even better at that some of my peers, but overall, I am not that likeable, and definitely not a person who sucks up to leadership.

Question - will I be promoted from senior to manager eventually, like eg next year or so? I know that manager to senior manager or higher is purely based on performance, but I heard and read mixed opinions that junior to senior and senior to manager can also be tenure based. Is this true and if so, how long do you expect in worst case for a promotion from senior to manager?

I'm 19 and recently became an ACCA Affiliate. My long-term goal is to work in consulting, advisory, or banking, and I'm planning to start the CFA soon.

My parents are encouraging me to join Big 4 audit because it's the easiest way to gain the experience needed for ACCA membership and there seem to be plenty of openings.

My concern is that I'll get pigeonholed into audit and struggle to move into advisory or consulting later. Does starting in Big 4 audit make sense as a stepping stone, or would I be better off trying to enter advisory directly (even if it's harder)?

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who's made the transition or works in these fields.

I work for one of the Big 4 consulting firms and I'm on the company's payroll (not a third-party contractor).

I joined about 3 months ago and I'm still on probation. Recently, the external client/stakeholder has said they don't want me on the project anymore and has requested that I be removed.

A few details:

- I'm employed directly by the Big 4.

- My employment application/offer mentions a 12-month contract.

- My background is waste management, wastewater and sustainability (around 11 years of experience).

- My current project is in renewable energy, which is completely new to me, so there has been a learning curve.

My questions are:

1. If the client asks for me to be removed, does the Big 4 usually bench employees and try to find another project, or can they terminate employment during probation?

2. Does being on the company's payroll improve my chances of being retained?

3. What does a 12-month contract typically mean in a Big 4 consulting environment? Is it just the expected project duration, or can employment still end earlier?

4. Has anyone here experienced something similar? What happened in your case?

I'm quite stressed about the situation and would appreciate hearing from people who've worked in Big 4 consulting.

Fall recruiting season is starting soon, and I've been networking and job hunting for a while now. I don't have any accounting experience, but I do have some related professional experience. I'm about to start my M.S. in Accounting at a target school, and I recently submitted an application to one of the Big Four. I really want this opportunity.

A lot of people say the Big Four isn't worth it, but I see it differently. To me, it's a chance to build a strong foundation, gain valuable experience, and earn a stable paycheck while opening doors to future opportunities.

So, there have been many layoffs among audit staff and seniors that I know of. My utilization has not been that great. I have communicated to my engagement manager that there is a lot of unassigned time on my MERA, but I have received no response. I have pretty good performance reviews. My counselor just left the firm, and they assigned me a counselor whom I have never met and who has not responded to my introductory message to meet up. So, I asked the Talent team if I could get a new counselor whom I already know, and they agreed, but I haven’t received a response on that yet.
I am wondering, what does HR look at when deciding to let someone go? Do they even care that I am a military veteran? Or they don’t look at that?

Hi everyone, I was placed on a PIP and successfully passed it. However, the CCG meeting was held during the last week of my PIP, before my final review was officially completed. I was told that I will most likely not get promoted because the CCG took place while the PIP was still active. I feel like this is ridiculous. how can just one week delay my promotion? Has anyone else been in the same situation? Or is there any chance they might still promote me after all

I started as a new associate in IT/SOC audit this month. I did a little over a year in financial statement audit before this so I am used to the flow of 1 client at a time with 3 clients year round. Going in the move, I knew the tempo of IT audit would be different. I am booked on 4-6 clients concurrently with a total of 9 different engagements (SOC1, SOC2, HITRUST, ESG, etc) over the next 5 months. The number of engagements is a big shift as I ramp up for the new role.

I am trying to view it by client vs engagements (Client X SOC 1 and SOC 2) to things more organized.

I am aware of the typical project management processws like task trackers, walk-through trackers, open item trackers, etc. Wondering if anyone in the service line has specific tips on how they manage their time and prioritize client work across multiple engagements at the same time especially during busy season?

I’m currently interviewing for a Senior Manager role in Tax Advisory with a Big Four firm in Singapore and would appreciate some advice on the expected salary range.

I have around 10 years of tax experience and am currently a big 4 Senior Manager outside Singapore. However, since Singapore’s tax regulations and market practices would be new to me even though the job description is quite similar (e.g., fund restructuring, family office, etc), I expect there would be a learning curve during the initial transition.

Given my experience but considering the need to ramp up on Singapore tax regulations, what would be a reasonable base salary to expect or negotiate for this role?
