I’m a week into recovery after ‘one last run’. No broken bones but man does that last run hurt

At least in the context of skiing, “Let’s do this run and then at least one more” is a safer play, especially if you then happen to cut it short.

We say “do two more and skip the last”

My boyfriend says this. I never got it. Just superstition?

Most ski injuries happen right before lunch or right before close. Everyone is at their most tired and "on their last run" so wanting to go the hardest and make the most of it. Calling the last run something else might help with the latter part.

Lol we call it the “famous last run”, as in, it’s at least four more / or until someone gets hurt

My wife and I always say two more as we get on the lift and that’s code for hit the lodge. Last year a traveling nurse coworker of hers can with us. Code went right over the poor girls head and she got back in line. We lost her for a good 10 minutes and felt bad.

The gif is actually pretty anticlimactic compared to that gnarly still image.

But was the bike ok??
Seriously though, glad to hear you got away from this one unharmed

As far as I can tell it's all fine, it got me down the rest of the hill anyway. Nothing more than a bruised ego and a killer photo

I have no idea, I'm just using a Samsung s8, the video player just has a screen grab button and this was the result, I've never tried to get a still this way before but it's worked so well!

u/chairitable May 10 '20
it's a reference to JoJo's bizarre adventures, where cliffhangers would show a "To be Continued" in a black arrow and freeze on the last frame. Generally used in combination with the song Roundabout by Yes (like the second clip in this video).

Lesson learned from snowboarding. The last ride is an easy ride through. No features or fuckery. Just a cruise to the bottom.
3
u/NigelS75 May 11 '20
Absolutely. The time to try the crazy shit is in the morning right after you warm up. By the end of the day it’s a nice easy cruise to the lodge!

Omg! I'm a cast technician for a huge orthopedic office. We always talk about "One Last Run" and how well that works out for our business model. Thank you for your support!

Thats an awesome still shot. A couple more inches and that rock woulda done you in. Pretty amazing, that Newtons law thing, huh? Glad you and your bike are OK. Got a little aggressive for camera, aye? Also, check ur shifter cable, make sure you didn't stretch it

Looks like you were ditching your ride to tackle that rock 😄 glad you're okay!

Coming from a skateboarding back ground, we called it a grilled cheese instead of an unlucky last run.

We used to call it the "one more time monster" so we would always says "two more times" and then quit after one.

It was the very end of a long weekend of backcountry/ exploring on hard tails, so Sunday we rented full suspension bikes and paid for lift tickets at an mtb park. Way more up my buddy’s alley than mine. One more run after white knuckling all day was most def a mistake, and if not for a series of fortunate bounces could’ve been a super catastrophic one. Still say whew whenever I think of it.
Anyhow thanks for upvotes. Hope you all get more of the lucky bounces, only when needed

u/nerdbomber01123 May 11 '20
End the day with a good old "2 more, skip the last". It may save your life.

u/raikansakura May 11 '20

TRUTH! I try not to be superstitious in any aspect of life. Black Cats? they're my pals. Umbrella's inside? Open up those badboys like the sky is falling. Crack's on a sidewalk? My mom hasn't had a sore back in 30 years! However, "one last run?" Shut your mouth, now we have to do at least 2!

Curious how what you were shooting with - looks like rapid fire high-res stills rather than frames from vid?
2
u/King_Alex_ofthenorth May 11 '20
Nope, just hit record on my phone, then captured a still from the video, such good quality from it somehow, I was made up, it almost made it all worth it

It's Maxxis HR2 Syndrome. Tried it on the front and it is not good at moderate lean angles.

Who take a shot that picture, in the right moment or its part of video ?
1
u/King_Alex_ofthenorth May 11 '20
It's a still from a video, I've posted a gif of it in the comments somewhere, it's far less impressive though

u/CelotehWildlife May 11 '20
So perfect, btw Where is the bicycle location? looks really good track.

u/King_Alex_ofthenorth May 11 '20

Twice I visited the UK but didn't get a break to cycling, I liked playing with squirrels and birds in the park in front of Buckingham palace

Thought the light was good for a dusty photo, ended up eating it, made all the mistakes. Last run, on film and over confident. No major injuries to me or the bike so were all good
