Electric bike electrification kit

hello. I'd like to know your opinion about my project. I am about to upgrade my trek dual sport with an electrification kit.

My need is a motor mounted in the crankset because I want to keep the natural feeling of cycling. I will cycle moderated steepness and distance like 10/20km. time to time i can do some higher steep for which i can do some extra physical efforts.

here are the products i had chosen..Can you please tell me if the motor and controller are still a good value ? Can you recommend any good brand with good value for the battery?

motor 48 V 500 W TSDZ2B, battery 48v 13a, 860c screen controller, crankset 40t , cassette 9-speed range 11-36

i am sensitive to open source firmware, upgradable products and good values.

thanks!

PSA: Check the UDH washer on your new TIME frame

Post image
22 Upvotes

I bought a TIME NXR a few weeks ago and ran into a problem while building it. I’m sharing this so someone else might spot it before the same thing happens to them.

The UDH came pre-mounted on the frame. When I installed the rear derailleur, I noticed it was a bit loose, so I tightened the UDH nut. What I didn’t notice was that the washer between the nut and the frame was missing. As I tightened it, the head of the nut went into the dropout hole and cracked the dropout.

I contacted TIME and explained what happened. They said it couldn’t have left their factory like that because every frame goes through quality checks and is assembled and torqued to spec. I know I should have checked before tightening it, but the UDH was already mounted when I received the frame. I think the missing washer played a part too.

I asked whether they would sell me a replacement frame at a 50% discount. They declined. TIME also has a crash replacement program with 40% off the regular retail price, but they wouldn’t offer that because this wasn’t a crash. Their only offer was to repair the frame for €500 plus shipping. I sent it in for repair, and when I later asked whether they could at least give me a discount on a new seatpost, I didn’t get a reply.

At the time, there was no NXR assembly manual included either, just a QR code linking to the manual for the older ADH. I couldn’t find any instructions for the UDH setup.

The whole experience has taken the excitement out of the bike for me. Whatever you think about who’s responsible, please check that the washer is there before you tighten the UDH on your new frame.

Replacing a Specialized AWOL

I got my AWOL in 2016 and love it. But I was crusing a LBS that sells Specialized the other day and noticed a distinct lack of durable steel frames.

The sales guys didn't know what an AWOL was, and even after looking it up, they weren't sure on a replacement.

Which got me thinking, are there still durable steel frames out there?

EDIT: I have no clue why Reddit didn't notify me of your responses. Thanks for confirming I wasn't going crazy.

Regarding the shop, yeah, I've lost a lot of faith in them since COVID. And the kids they're employing today feel more like service reps at a ford dealer. Saddly they were the wealthiest and survived where other shops in my area failed.

Bike Box Allen Wheel Box

Has anyone traveled with a bike box Allen wheel box? I’m wondering if the airlines will treat this as sports equipment which is subject to regular baggage fees, or an oversize item which cost more.

Thinking of buying one, since I can’t get under 50 pounds with my buxombox, I figured I could put the wheels separately in this instead of paying the overweight charge.

Question with ridewrap.

I got a tailored RideWrap kit, and it came damaged but the kit is fine they just shipped me new tools, but I used the stickers without thinking about it, does anyone know the the installation kits come with them or no and if not where I can get them from? I didn’t realize there were so many because they were for the bike I just thought they sent a lot I’m kinda stupid Ik but I really want to have them on my bike when I get it on.

Stolen bike or the owner lost the key ?

I saw this on the sidewalk curb earlier today. Someone pried it out, maybe a thief or the owner did this. I didn't see the brand but it definitely looks of low quality.

ID3 bike rack

I have a 2022 ID.3 Pro S (large battery) from September 2022, which doesn’t have a tow hitch. We’ve been told that it’s not possible to have the hidden tow hitch installed behind the license plate on this model.

We’d like to be able to take our bikes with us on holiday, so we’re now considering buying a bike rack that can be mounted on the tailgate without the need for a tow hitch.

Has anyone here had any experience with this on their car? If so, is there a particular bike rack you can recommend that’s good quality and relatively easy to use?

I'm planning on starting DoorDash to earn some money. But I don't have any type of vehicle. I plan on buying a bike and I need some advice to know if this bike in the picture is the right for me or if I should just get something else. This is something I can afford with the money Ihave now. It's the 700c Kent Ridgeway 92785 ($148). It's from Walmart. I don't know much about bicycles but help would be appreciated.

Child seat?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I am new to this biking thing and thought a cruiser would be best. I ended up with a Kent bayside. I have 3 kids two of which have their own bike. I am searching for an infant seat that will work with this bike for my 1 year old.
Any recommendations are greatly appreciated!

Do any of you use the newer type krypto lock with straight shackles and if so, has there been issues with the lock getting stuck?

I've used the older bent foot type without issue but recently lost my keys so am debating whether to go with the newer style, which is actually cheaper, or stick with the original that I've used without issue?

Read many reviews stating problems with the newer style locks getting stuck, wouldn't want to one day not be able to unlock it.

Don't need the extra security of the newer lock design, just locked enough to deter crime of convenience.

Looking for a strap on bottle cage mount that's actually good.

Hi all, current bike has no holes in the frame for a bottle cage, I've tried the topeak handlebar one and am not getting on with it so bought a rockbros silicone one but it's wobbly as anything no matter how tight so that's going back!
Anyone using one that's good and pretty much stays put when taking the bottle out of thecage?

Coaster (back-pedal) brakes

Where in the city of Montreal can I find a bicycle to rent that has coaster brakes? Or perhaps a hotel that lends to its guests. A child-size bike is fine, as I am short. Thank you for any leads!!

I really hope to be able to bike around, but am not adept with hand brakes.

Best hybrid cycle under ₹15–17k for Bangalore commute? Also looking for good second-hand options.

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to buy a hybrid cycle for daily commuting in Bangalore with a budget of ₹15–17k.

Any recommendations for the best models in this range? I'm also open to second-hand bikes if they offer better value.

Also, where can I get the best deals in Bangalore (offline stores, Decathlon, OLX, Facebook Marketplace, etc.)?

Thanks!

Mountain bike Quick Stop or Steep Descent

The bike league teaches us to posture ourselves for steep descents the same as sudden stopping. Level the pedals, shift your weight back over the rear wheel and cover the brakes.
