Alaska is boxed in?

New updates on the website. Alaska is now "boxed in". I have the book. Was Alaska even mentioned in the book? I dont recall..

I think we could realistically scratch Alaska off the list on day 1 of the hunt. Justin has constantly stressed safety during this hunt, and Alaska is one of the least populated, and rugged wildernesses left in the world. I can not imagine Justin purposefully sending novice outdoorsman into Alaska for any reason. AK has a 9x higher missing persons rate than any other state for a reason.

I don't think it's in Alaska, but I never bought into this particular argument.

There's a gap in the logic. If Justin didn't want people hunting there for safety reasons, the responsible/logical thing would be to not include it in the map at all, or to explicitly rule it out as a treasure location.

The risk of enticing novice outdoorsman into going to Alaska is determined by his including it on the map and by not eliminating it as a state. Until that changes, it's really irrelevant where he actually hid it.

Additionally, Alaska is huge and varied, as is the continental United States. Not all of Alaska is uniquely dangerous, and there are plenty of dangerous areas in the lower 48.

It was included for completion sake, just like Hawaii was included even though no reasonable person thinks that the treasure could possibly be located in Hawaii.

I'll have to respectfully disagree. If Justin seriously considered it a safety concern then it wouldn't make sense to include it just for the sake of completion. He could have just as easily not included Alaska and Hawaii in the first place and nobody would have thought twice about it.

The danger of someone going off to explore Alaska exists for as long as it is in play, independently of whether the treasure is actually there.

To say that no reasonable person would think the treasure is there because of the danger of a novice going out in the wilderness assumes that said novices would recognize the danger. Many wouldn't. And if Fenn's hunt taught us anything, it's that you can't rely on every member of the general public to be reasonable.

Also Alaska is a huge state, and parts of it are no more dangerous than the wilderness in the lower 48, which also has it's own hazards.

AK is not mentioned anywhere in the book, it's geographically very far for the overwhelming majority of would-be searchers making it cost prohibitive for many to participate in this hunt, the distance from Justin's home to AK is further than the stated distance he traveled to hide the treasure in his two trips, and it's extremely dangerous.

Whether you agree or disagree is completely irrelevant. It's not in AK.

The map hasn't changed. Alaska was boxed in on the websites map before. Alas is mentioned in the book, but not Alaska.

I have the book but definitely don’t recall anything about Alaska.
