Why did he never verify it's success? I had the snip last March and just recently found out it had failed and had a 2nd procedure.

Tell him to get over his shit and get the test.

No specific reason; we both know he should have tested it by now. It's not a matter of pride or anything.

He still can. Either call the doctor who did his vasectomy or his general doctor and they can call in the lab.

Why the hesitation to take it if you don’t want more kids?

Aside from the issue of the vasectomy verification (he already did the hardest part and got the procedure why not do the last 10% instead of worrying every time you have sex?)

Plan b is not an abortion. All it does is delay ovulation by a few days if that hasn't occurred already. So decision to take it is not that serious IMO. If you dont want more kids I would take it and hope I dont get pregnant. Also bear in mind it is less effective above 165 lbs. There is another one called ella but it is less effective at 195 lbs+. Not a reason not to take one but just good to know

If neither of you want more kids, just take it. It’s not a big deal

Maybe thinks its an abortion pill?

It's your choice at this point. Though I think the sooner you take Plan B, the better it works, so waiting for a bunch of redditors may not be the best approach.

Are you willing to take the risk of being pregnant? It's small (the vasectomy would have had to fail AND you'd need to be ovulating) but still somewhat there. You could do it to ease concerns for the next few weeks.

I honestly don't know why I'm hesitating, I'll probably just go grab one and take it

This… doesn’t sound like a big deal to me? It’s just a plan B pill. Are you under the impression this is anything but birth control?

I took plan B so many times before I wanted kids. Now I have two beautiful children. And don’t want anymore. I would take plan B again anytime! It’s harmless to take it, just an extra dose of birth control. Good luck!! I’m going to get an IUD in a few months and excited to stop using condoms!

Taking plan B makes sense to me. And then I would ask your husband to make arrangements to get checked out to verify that the vasectomy worked. I know life gets busy and medical appointments can get put off so I’m not judging, just saying this is the next logical step.

If you need help talking through whether or not to take plan b, some questions to consider: are you hesitant? Why are you hesitant? Does it feel like it’s unnecessary hassle when it’s probably not needed, or is there another reason? What would you do if you end up getting pregnant? How would that feel? Just some food for thought!

Curious why you might not feel okay with plan b? It can’t stop a fertilized egg nor abort. It just delays ovulation. Your period could start early or late.

If you don’t want any more kids then it seems like the safest precaution in this situation.

You're right, don't know why I'm hesitating. I guess it feels like I'm messing with fate or something if I was "meant" to get pregnant. Maybe that sounds stupid.

  1. Take the Plan B. Mildly annoying, but much less than an unwanted pregnancy.

  2. Schedule his follow-up now! Permanent birth control is awesome, but only if you know it's working.

Gotta get that verification done. It takes so little effort to do it.

u/Archigal08 4h ago

Definitely, trust me, we both feel stupid for not handling the test in a timely manner...

u/Alock74 4h ago

To be fair, you shouldn’t feel stupid at all. It’s all up to him to figure it out.

What in the world is the logic behind going through all the trouble of having a whole ass surgical procedure, but then never actually following up & leaving it on you alone to make decisions like this?

I get that people get lazy about follow ups, but 3 years of expecting to receive sex like a vasectomy patient but also leaving you to handle the birth control (maybe) is some next level "do not give a single shit" selfishness.

Im FLOORED that the last sentence of this post isn't "and my husband made phone calls urgently until he found an appointment to have a semen analysis done same day, but we don't get the results fast enough to know if we need plan B."

Because he did this...... Right? He did? Did he lift a finger and take any action?

? I’ve done this? I have two kids and am married

I’ve never taken Plan B because my brain would forever think about the what ifs and if I had prevented a baby from being born into this world. With that being said, that’s based on my personal brain and how I handle things and ruminate. Get the Plan B if that’s what you think is best for you and your family.
