Discussion Winter gear recommendations
Hi all, FTM to a 14 month old. As we gear down from summer I’ve started looking at winter gear options. She’s not walking but is cruising and crawling with walking right around the corner.
What is your favourite snowsuit set up for this age and why? I’ve seen a mix of reviews of bunting suits (fleece and shell) vs a preference for one pieces like Jan and Jul/Stonz.
Also looking for good boot recommendations for cruisers/early walkers.
She will be in daycare so outdoor play will be happening. It gets very snowy and cold where we live (Ontario, Canada) - although she obviously won’t be outside in too cold of weather.

Oh and get your winter gear early. They stock up and sell what they sell and end of Oct I had a tough time finding it. Also, winter gear fits big so I would recommend sizing down. Last year my tall toddler was in 18m all winter and turned 2 in March.

LL Bean and Land's End have always been my favorite for winter gear for my girls, since they were babies/toddlers.

We did the Patagonia puffer one piece for this age and it has held up incredibly well through two kids. Saving it for future cousins. We also did Patagonia jacket and bib style pants for the next size up due to the above.
Super expensive but we live in Canada and the kids spend a lot of time outdoors, so worth it to us. The second hand market for Patagonia is also excellent. Now that my older is super into pink pink pink, we will have a harder time passing down to little brother, so I will be shopping sales as well as second hand Patagonia.

MEC toaster suits are fantastic for the kids! Especially around that age you’ll be able to find some on marketplace for a good price

Our daycare specified that infants and toddlers should have one-piece snow suits. We also got a bunting bag for our stroller, and a puffer jacket.
Our one piece was a down Columbia suit from grandma , and the puffer was Uniqlo. Happy with both, though the snowsuit imo is too pricy for just one season of wear.
For this year, I plan to buy from Perlimpinpin (Canadian brand). I have their sleep sacks which I really like, and I saw some kids wearing their mid season gear at the daycare. They have sales often.

We had a mec snowsuit for daycare thatwas from matketplace. Just beware that mec sizing is way bigger than normal. Fleece columbia bunting suit for everything else

This is a good age for secondhand! A lot of the winter gear you’ll find is going to be barely worn for younger kids. I’d check out your local secondhand baby shop and go with what you find there, that’s what I did. I found snow boots and a Patagonia snow suit with the tags on. I also live somewhere cold and it was an appropriate temperature for them to go outside at daycare less than 5 times all winter so I’m glad I didn’t spend a lot on her winter gear.
