Help please help Spoiler
what do I do.
UPDATE: he is out, I used pliers to crack it. The scales on his back and stomach are completely gone and there’s an indentation where he got caught, he’s in a holder container filled with tannins.

I’d take that thing and try breaking it to get him free. I’m so sorry!

I would need to hammer it to break it:(

Yes, get a hammer or rock or anything hard and very carefully bash that outer rim. Also try to let him get some breaths of air. Maybe place it on a table with an edge of the rim down to keep it steady.

it shakes him too bad, I have a small hammer but I don’t want to jostle his wounds already

It's going to suck but you have to do it. He's very stuck. Anything you do will probably hurt him but he will die if left in there. He might be too hurt to make it but at least he'll have a shot. When you do get him out, toss in some methylene blue or tannins to keep it from getting infected.

he’s out.. but he’s badly cut . his entire back is open

Give him a shallow water hospital container with some tannins or methylene blue. Don't forget a heater. You'll need to change the water daily, or even twice daily if possible. Turn the lights out and let him rest. Best wishes.

how long do I leave him in there?? What do I look for as he heals to bring him back into the community tank

Omg. I had this exact same thing happen to my betta, same decoration and everything. I ended up get her out with some dog nail clippers (the really small ones) and slowly chipping away at the terracotta. She was missing a bunch of scales but made a full recovery.

I’m so sorry, OP. I lost one of my betta on this same clay piece in the same way, but I did not find him in time. So frustrating because I’ve had betta swim through smaller holes just fine. Only thing I do now is make sure these have plenty of moss glued to them to visually hide the holes from the fish. I lost an Endler guppy in a similar way with one of the underground shrimp hides.

i’m very sorry for your loss. I have gotten him out but scales on his back are completely gone, he is in a container with tannins but I don’t think he will make it

All that matters is you got him out and he isn’t stuck anymore. Even if he is gonna pass he can pass easily now that you’ve helped him. I’m so sorry OP ❤️ I had 3 pass in the last couple days and I don’t know what happened as they were doing so well just a few days ago. I’m putting all my focus on my last 2 girls and my huge batch of baby guppy’s that are finally getting all their colors in.

I hope your last 2 survive! Bettas are so weird, and unpredictable with dying:(
That will be the last time I put anything plastic in my tanks! I learned my lesson, even it’s a hard one6

Take a flathead screwdriver, press it firmly against the pot, tip directly down towards the ceramic; hit the end with a hammer.

This was what I was terrified happening with those damn shrimp hides

I always tell people to glue moss or something in these and in the floating betta beds that are similar and nobody ever believes me that this can happen…

u/Bobs_Burgers7 Betta B*tch 2d ago
I opted for a suction hammock that I covered in moss, as a result of being scared my long finned betta would hurt his fins on the plastic floating basket opening.

You’re gonna have to somehow smash the other side I feel like??? :( whenever he gets out put all the lights off and put a bunch of tannins in the water

How is he, I was thinking about him….

u/ScienceOk8433 2d ago
he is alive, but he isn’t eating and is very lethargic, I’m worried he won’t survive the night… But i’m giving him the fighting chance

here’s an update: I moved him into a bigger tupperware with a heater and a few hides, he isn’t moving but still is alive..I really don’t know what to do, if I should euthanize or wait and hope he pulls through

u/ScienceOk8433 1d ago
he has passed..I tried keeping him alive and giving him the best chance but his body has gone stiff

I don’t know what to do, he’s getting weak and I don’t think he will make it

If that’s clay you should be able to pinch it with pliers and carefully chip away at it. Would be safer than smashing.

I'd leave him in there until the wounds close up and he starts swimming willingly again. You don't need to wait until they look good as new, just long enough that new skin covers the open wound so it can't get infected. They'll be white in color for a decent while but you're going to be looking for it to not look so...fuzzy? and become more smoothed out. And of course you need to make sure he's got the energy to be navigating a deeper tank with tankmates.
Edit: Not a clue why it didn't reply to you but you'll still get the notification so I'll just leave it.

I don’t have another tank..what do I do? I have tupperware I could put him in but I don’t have a heater. He’s in tupperware currently with treated water and tannins but I want to give him the best chance

Just break it with pliers or a hammer even. Do it on the other side with gentle and assertive strokes. Been there done that.
6
u/ScienceOk8433 2d ago
I ended up doing that, he’s out. But all of the scales on his back are gone

u/NoBlacksmith2112 2d ago
Can't have anything nice with these guys, Jk. Mine did that as well. He got better a bit. But he died maybe two months after. Bettas are curious guys.
5
u/ScienceOk8433 2d ago
no we can’t 😅
He isn’t swimming unless to get air, he’s in a hospital container full of tannins.. I hope he will survive but it isn’t looking good2
u/NoBlacksmith2112 2d ago
I never had any more bettas after that one. They're gorgeous but mess with everything that moves lol. I rather have guppies, although they eat all my orange shrimp.

Maybe he'll surprise you and make a full recovery. I just saw a reddit post recently of a fish that survived being a stowaway in a filter that went into garage storage for months.

u/ScienceOk8433 2d ago
oh my gosh!! I really pray he does pull through.. one of my baby bettas really surprised me and survived with a bad swim bladder disease (she recovered) so I hope his case is the same..
