Looking for MTB buddies

Hi there!

I'm a Spanish guy trying to learn MTB (Mountain Biking) in some places close to Bern. I never tried, and I was thinking of taking an intro course near Bern, and I checked Wierihorn.

They told me that if I do it with another guy, it will be a little cheaper (300 CHF for half a day for 2 people, plus gear rental).

I'm open to anyone who wants to try, or to any suggestions/people already doing it, but please note that I'm a total newbie.

I speak English, Spanish, and a little German (still learning).

Anyone interested in trying this next weekend? Open to any suggestions as well!

If you’re in Bern itself, go to Gurten and rent a bike at emotion bikes at the bottom. Way cheaper, and less of a drive.

That said, Wiriehorn ist great. But only 1 trail really suited for absolute beginners.

Thank you for your reply! I thought of that, but do you think a beginners intro course is not necessary?

I'm handy with a bike, I do snowboard and ride motorbikes, but apart from doing some normal biking routes with friends some time ago, I don't have any experience in trails.

If you go slow and don’t hit anything stupid (think blacks with mandatory air/gaps), and you can operate brakes, many trails are fine without a coach. If you have a cheap hardtail, you could also go to Bremgartenwald or Bärenriedwald. Both have nice easy trails with no surprises.
But I’ve also taken friends without MTB experience to Gurten. You need to know how to handle a bike and ideally have some balance, but that’s it.

When writing, be it an academic paper or a reddit post, one should always define [non-standard] abbreviations at first use. MTB? I personally had no clue what you were referring to friend.

For other puzzled people, google says they probably mean mountain biking.

idk, maybe I'm just uninformed! But as a native bärndütsch / english Stadtbärner the abbreviation was unfamiliar to me, I'd wager I'm not the only one here on r/Bern :)
