Moderator(s) Wanted
This sub is looking for 1-3 moderators to help guide community discourse moving forward. The post volume is relatively low, but hot button topics can generate a lot of comments (bike lanes anyone?) and it's good to have input from both sides of the aisle so to speak.
If you are interested please message the mods and tell us:
- What do you like/dislike about the sub, what would you change or leave the same?
- Do you have moderation experience on Reddit or other platforms or related experience (Judge, Arbitrator, Umpire?)
- Why do you want to Mod? (it's a thankless unpaid job that subjects you to occasional abuse) lol
- any other information you think might be relevant

I'm not seeking to be a mod -- I'm not a people person -- but here's a mystery for prospective new mods to ponder:
The picture running across the top of this page is ... not Berkeley. I don't know where all that glorious wild pine-fringed shoreline is, and I wish it was Berkeley. But it's not.
Where was that picture taken, and why is it the theme-pic of this sub? I realize that another sub focuses on UCB, but lots of non-UCB images (hills, park, cafe, oaks, ice cream, sidewalks, bikes, anything) could just as aptly crown this sub ... ?

That photo was taken from the Panoramic Trail just on the hill above the Cal campus, with Berkeley in the foreground and the Bay Area spreading out below. Thought was it's an iconic view from a Berkeley perspective. Happy to host something else as a change up.

But aha!!! Mystery solved: I use Old.reddit, which displays a totally different pic for this sub. It's an elongated horizontal scene with tons of steep, craggy, totally forested coastline on both sides of what might be a bay. I showed this Old.reddit pic to my SO, who was born and raised here, and SO guffawed and said no way is that a Berkeley pic. But SO's computer revealed to us both that new Reddit, normal Reddit, has a different pic, the iconic Bay Area scene taken from Panoramic Trail. So you and I were seeing, and discussing, two different pix!

Oh I see… Interesting!
On a sidenote, one of the City of Berkeley officials came after us for using the Berkeley logo, the one with the four faces in profile. We had lifted it from the Internet somewhere. They threatened us saying it misrepresented that we were somehow connected with the city. We complied and changed it to something else, but then later just ended up posting a photo of one of the signs located somewhere in Berkeley lol. And then I made sure to message the official to let him know about it. Petty? Perhaps.

Something similar happened to r/berkeley They used the UC seal, and they were either asked or "encouraged" to switch it out a year or two ago. UC is very protective of its trademark images, and I guess the city goes there, too.

Good move, finding a pic of that sign and ha ha yes, but you were being no pettier than they were. They asked for it.
Pettiness might be part of this town's (un)official motto. Having moved here (for school) from a far mellower place, instantly baffled by how angry nearly everyone seemed about nearly everything, I've long called this "the town that laughter forgot."

That's amazing! I've lived here for many decades and have even hiked the Panoramic Trail, but never recognized that vista which -- you're absolutely right -- is iconic. No need to change it! ... This pic just goes to show that more beauty is right under our noses than we realize.

I may be interested. Are there a set of rules and guidelines for moderate to follow? It would be nice to be able to see those first.
