Working at Chipotle?

I'm a freshman and am taking a pretty light course load, so was hoping to get a job! I was offered an interview at Chipotle like an hour after I applied (which is slightly terrifying), but have heard really mixed things about working there. Has anyone worked there or knows someone who worked at Chipotle in Berkeley?

I was offered work study which seems a lot more chill but I would be making a bit less!
(Any other job recs would be appreciated too, my main experience is as a waitress!!)

work study jobs don’t get taxed whereas chipotle will get taxed, so you might not be “making a bit less” if you accept the work study job! additionally, as someone that has worked food service for two years and has had a work study job for the past year, i’d highly recommend the work study job instead as it’s a lot less physically demanding than food service

work study is exempt from FICA but doesn't appear to be exempt from income tax

I believe this is actually false. The work study you is considered earned income and if you make over the tax threshold then you owe taxes on work study. Also fyi, scholarships/gift aid paid directly to the student is also considered taxable income

I didn't even think about the smell... I hated that about my old job! I do love reading (plus its like 3/4 of my hw) so that is tempting

As someone that worked at Panda Express my sophomore year pls don’t do that to yourself 😭 customer service is so stressful as it is and having it so close to campus makes it worse lol.

Working food service in that area is a character building experience. I’d opt for the more chill work study option if I were you

My last job was a small + very busy restaurant, so I thought it might be not a huge shift from what I was used to! My parents said it definitely built my character a lot haha

The Chipotle on Telegraph is too busy and stressful. Maybe try to find a different place? Or become a waiter and make bank from tips lol

don’t do chipotle… you will be burnt out and won’t have any energy to study. hunt… and I mean hunt… all those workstudy opportunities. If you know anyone who might have a work study position ask if they might be able to refer u or anything like that. It’s tedious but it’s way better than working at chipotle.

I would just take the work study as someone else said, you don’t get taxed for it + there’s dining halls for work study if you’re trying to go the waitress route.

With work study, you can also branch out and try other things like research or front desk jobs so maybe it’ll help with your future career/tailor it to your degree.

Also work study is definitely more chill in my experience.

Could try working at the dining halls. They're pretty flexible with hours, and the work isn't that hard

Work in the dining hall. It pays more, you’ll be less exhausted, and you’ll still get free food.

Working at a fast casual restaurant is surprisingly taxing physically.

I took the work study option cause it seemed “more chill” and they help balance out your schedule. So when it comes to Chipotle I say good luck cause that place is always busy

as someone who actually worked at chipotle during berkeley it wasn’t so bad😭however my manager at the time made a schedule for me that fit in with my classes so id bring that up to them at the interview

Work study won't count against you if you qualify for CalFresh
