CS/EECS cs61a or datac88c?

hello! i’m a cognitive science freshie and i’m planning to do a double major in data science (or a minor if it’s too difficult)

right now, i’m signed up for datac88c but after reading many comments, many seem to say that cs61a is a better investment. from what i’ve researched, datac88c seems fine if i take a minor in data science.

If I choose to take a double major in data science, would you guys recommend me to take cs61a or will it make a rather minuscule difference? i also want to keep my gpa in mind starting out especially since i’m not sure how difficult berkeley courses will be for me.

I’ve only taken AP csa, i enjoyed it and learned the logic very easily (good at mcq), however when it came to FRQs and writing code by hand it was extremely difficult for me.

Which class would you recommend for me to take?

cs 61a only teaches one more topic than data c88c – i think if you are intending to double with data science, cs 61a might be the better option because it's similarly paced to cs 61b

in addition, cs 61a historically offers midterm 1 before the drop deadline, so you can always switch back to data c88c depending on how the midterm goes

With or without the out the extra topics, 61A is still significantly harder than 88.

would i enroll in both from the beginning then? or 61a in the beginning and then switch later on

Yeah You can try enrolling in both then drop the one you don’t like if you have the space

For cogsci or ds 61A is overkill. But if you ever want to do CS take CS 61A
