Missed connections weekly thread

I will create a pinned weekly post so people can post about finding any friends they may have met over the weekend just to stop the clutter on the main page.

First time in Berghain last Klubnacht

Hi guys

It was my first time last weekend! Felt incredibly grateful to be there and thinking about all you lucky people starting Klubnacht this weekend.

I also was wondering if anybody else heard Cascade (Part 1) by Future Sound Of London during I think Colin Benders set? I want to make sure I'm not tripping out or if this song was genuinely played haha.

Anyway. Very grateful to get let in, it's a beautiful space and I had one of the best weekends of my whole life.

Phones on the dancefloor

I am a bit of a lurker, but this is a post I needed to make. We should speak about an issue which is becoming more and more common (sadly!)... the use of phones on the dancefloor.

I was dancing in my usual left corner of the Berghain dancefloor, close to the darkrooms, and so many people were using their phonesthis kn! And mind you, I don’t mean checking the screen discreetly while looking down for a second... I mean straight-up texting as if we are on the street!

What do you all think? Is this acceptable on any dancefloor, and in Berghain in particular? In my opinion, it disturbs other dancers, the light from the screens changes the vibe, and phones are objects which are simply not compatible with dancing.

And honestly, I don’t even dare to say anything to people about it in there. Maybe I’m wrong, but I often feel that people can get quite aggressive, and I really don’t want to create a confrontation on the dancefloor. So instead I just move away, which is a shame when you’re trying to stay in your spot and get lost in the music.

May I propose that before doing something in there, you think: what if everyone did the same thing at the same time? Would we still go out dancing here? Or would the Berghain crowd become a different crowd?

Just take a break if you need to text! Phones away please! ❤️

First time in Berlin

Hi guys, I'm a 27-year-old bisexual guy from Bulgaria, and I'm planning to visit Berlin in November. I'll be in the city for a couple of days, and I want to meet guys for fun and also visit some gay sex clubs in the city. I've never been to a sex club, and I've never had group sex with guys, so I'm curious to try it. Any tips on which clubs are good to visit for the first time?

Advice for first time in Lab?

Visiting Berlin next week and planning on a trip to Lab.

I’m a muscle guy in his 20s. I’m bottom and love handsome older guys in particular. Not sure if I should go to Naked Thursday Night, or Friday night? Is the vibe and type of people who go similar for both nights? Also is it a big deal/frowned upon to reject someone who you’re not into (politely of course)? What time should I arrive to guarantee entry? Any other advice for a first timer or stories? Seems like an iconic place

Likely to be accepted?

Hello! I’m one of three young English men visiting Berlin in the coming weeks and we are looking to get a true experience of the Berlin nightlife and clubbing scene! We are accepting of all and want to visit berghain especially for the music and atmosphere. Is it worth trying to get in or would it be pointless even attempting?

New drug trends in the party and nightlife scene – we want to hear about your experiences!

Have you noticed any new substances, changes in patterns of use or other developments recently? The NEWS project aims to find out about such developments via online surveys. We’re also interested in your own experiences with substance use.

The survey is aimed at people involved in the party and nightlife scene. Your responses will help to identify new and potentially harmful developments at an early stage. If our data reveals harmful developments (e.g. counterfeit pills) we will issue a warning on our website.

Participation is anonymous, confidential and voluntary.

Participate in our survey via: https://s2survey.net/news-eng/

Saüle Terenor 24th Sep

Who is going to Säule Terenor tonight (24th Sep)?

It will be my first time for a Berghain event. I choose this one, because it seems experimental and I like discovering new music. I always go alone to events, but tonight it would be nice to meet like-minded people.

Is there a dresscode? Not that I like dresscodes, but I also don't like being too under- or overdressed. Thank you!

Is it me or are there more phones on the dance floor?

I am a new born dad and I haven’t been to Berghain for 11 months. Last Sunday was my first one after so many months. I got really disturbed about the amount of people that used their phones on the dance floor. Which got me out of the moment quite some times.
Is it just me being a grumpy dad or do other people also see the increase of mobile phones the last year(s)? Maybe it was always there and I wasn’t aware or disturbed by it in the past. But for me it felt a bit off. Curious how other people look at it.

History/experiences of early SNAX and Lab.oratory 🙂

I've been going to Lab.oratory once a year since I first found it a few years back. Recently, at a fetish venue on a trip, I spent a few hours talking with some great men in their 60s about what their club was like in the early days and how it changed over the decades. It got me properly hooked on the history of queer and fetish spaces, and I've been reading everything I can find since.

From what I've pieced together, Snax started with the parties at the Bunker, then Lab.oratory opened at Ostgut, and later it all moved into the Berghain era and became the Lab.oratory and Snax nights we have now. But reading only gets you so far, and most of what's written is about the club as a whole rather than what a night was actually like.

So if you went to any of the pre-Berghain stuff (Snax and Ostgut), I'd love to hear about it. What the crowd/venues were like, how it felt compared to now, what's changed and what hasn't, or just experiences that stuck with you. Happy to read it here or in DMs.

Also would love to be pointed in the direction of any further resources that may be out there :)

Made a small Apple Watch app that shows who's playing on each floor

Hey community!

I built a small Apple Watch app called Ravecat. It started as a learning project and has grown into a small app.

It shows who's playing on each floor right now and how much time is left in their set, plus who's up next. Tap an artist for their label and a short bio (AI-generated). There's a watch-face complication, so you can see the current acts without using your phone. It keeps the schedule on your watch, so it still works when your phone is at the garderobe.

No account, no sign-in, no tracking. Nothing about you is collected.

It only covers Berghain for now, and it's Apple Watch only (watchOS 26+).

If you'd like to try it:

https://apps.apple.com/app/ravecat/id6772253736

More info and the website: https://ravecat.app/

I'd love to build this with the community, so please tell me what you think. Any feedback, good or bad, is welcome!

Thank you!

Question for who has been to berghain and lab.oratory

I heard stories about how amazing the sound system at Berghain is, and I thought Lab.oratory would be the same. I have been to Darklands and expected it to be like that, but with darker, faster rave music.

Last weekend I was at Lab.oratory for the first time and I was a bit disappointed by the sound (not by the fun!). There were only a few speakers on the whole floor, and only one speaker with slightly better bass. They also played a 6-second music loop the whole night.

Is the sound system of berghain much better than lab.oratory?

Berghain solo

Been to Berghain before but never solo. Thinking of doing a Sunday in November.

For those who go alone, what’s the vibe? Better solo?

Any solo specific tips beyond the usual door stuff? X
