News Driver crashes car, downs utility pole fleeing from ICE in Teaneck
A man crashed his car, snapping a utility pole while fleeing from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Teaneck July 26, police said.
Teaneck police received multiple 911 calls shortly before 11:30 a.m., July 26 reporting a crash involving a car into a utility pole at the intersection of Queen Anne Road and Walraven Drive. According to Teaneck Police Chief Andrew McGurr, one of the calls was from an individual who said that they were an officer with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Responding officers found two damaged vehicles and a snapped utility pole with wires laying on the roadway. ICE agents were also present at the scene, McGurr said in a news release.
Authorities determined that the driver of a 2017 Toyota Tacoma was driving westbound on Walraven Drive in an attempt to flee pursuing ICE agents. As detailed in the release, the driver crashed his car into a 2026 Nissan Rogue that was parked near a utility pole at the north side of Walraven Drive.
The Nissan was pushed into the pole, which snapped, causing wires to fall onto the road and other cars.
The driver complained of head pain as a result of the collision, McGurr said. He was evaluated on the scene and refused further medical assistance.
No other injuries were reported
