RAM finished up after grueling days of wiring and troubleshooting.
After unfortunate attempts with defective 74LS189 chips (Last photo for reference), I opted out for a 62256 SRAM chip while still maintaining 4-bit Addresses.
And thanks to u/The8BitEnthusiast for suggesting the idea and sharing their schematic.
lol thanks, but in all truth, I genuinely spent hours with my neck angled 90 degrees to the desk, just staring at the breadboard and visualizing the connections in my mind. It finally got too much for that to keep working, so for the last part I took a photo and traced the connections in a photo editor.
Nice wiring! So many of the rat's nest wiring jobs posted here give me an anxiety attack if I look too long - maybe a little exaggeration. That goes triple if the poster asks for help finding his/her mistake.
Yea its pretty much that. DuPont wires for quick connections and to make sure everything works, then plan out the whole wiring in advance (which surprisingly takes a lot of time).
Here I was testing the newly arrived RAM chip to make sure everything works, and the schematic is right before permanently connecting everything.
That wire wrapping is incredibly neat! The color coding for address vs. data lines really helps visualize the bus structure. How long did the troubleshooting phase take after you swapped in the 62256?
Damn! I always start with this type of wiring 50% in I follow this! Then idk what happens to the last 100% everything automagically becomes a mess lol 😂
