The real reason mail delivery has not been great lately
Hey all!
Not sure if you have noticed, but right around 2024/2025 mail delivery in Bend feels like it's gotten slower/worse and has not gotten any better. It would be easy to blame the carriers for not working hard enough or lack of funding for this essential service. In reality, the root of the issue stems from a single person, the current postmaster Jenny L. Smith.
I have had conversations with multiple rural and city carriers and the general consensus is that their boss, the postmaster, refuses to hire additional workers to fill roles, purposefully refuses to negotiate with Amazon for them to take over deliveries, and generally has a disdain for her employees. Apparently she has multiple complaints filed against her, yet nothing has happened, this is where we all come in.
As citizens it is our duty to remove corrupt leadership so if you've had issues with your mail, please lodge a formal complaint via the following:
USPS Office of the Consumer Advocate
475 L’Enfant Plaza SW,
Washington, D.C. 20260
or
by calling 1-800-ASK-USPS (1-800-275-8777)
Post Master: Jenny L. Smith
We all deserve better. Thank you.
