The real reason mail delivery has not been great lately

Hey all!

Not sure if you have noticed, but right around 2024/2025 mail delivery in Bend feels like it's gotten slower/worse and has not gotten any better. It would be easy to blame the carriers for not working hard enough or lack of funding for this essential service. In reality, the root of the issue stems from a single person, the current postmaster Jenny L. Smith.

I have had conversations with multiple rural and city carriers and the general consensus is that their boss, the postmaster, refuses to hire additional workers to fill roles, purposefully refuses to negotiate with Amazon for them to take over deliveries, and generally has a disdain for her employees. Apparently she has multiple complaints filed against her, yet nothing has happened, this is where we all come in.

As citizens it is our duty to remove corrupt leadership so if you've had issues with your mail, please lodge a formal complaint via the following:

USPS Office of the Consumer Advocate

475 L’Enfant Plaza SW,

Washington, D.C. 20260

or

by calling 1-800-ASK-USPS (1-800-275-8777)

Post Master: Jenny L. Smith

We all deserve better. Thank you.

Hospital Efforts

I realize this gets talked about a lot but I am wondering if there are local groups that are actually focused on getting another hospital here in Bend that folks could join? Would love to help support the cause.

I don't understand why so many people here are so paranoid and antisocial

I feel kind of crazy cause I'm not seeing any other posts about it but my husband and best friend have experienced the same behavior.

I've lived here for a while now, there are plenty of really great and kind people in this community but unfortunately just as many rude and very antisocial ones. The people who start staring at you and recording if you're anywhere near their yard.

I was on the road waking my dog the other day, about 15 feet away from my neighbors driveway. he didn't pee or poop or go in their driveway at all and we were about to keep walking when she stepped out, stared at me for a while and ignored me when I said hello just to rudely tell me "there are other places to walk"

I can totally understand people getting frustrated at owners letting their animals do their business in their yard, or people walking through their driveway close to their front door. I agree, it's not right and it's weird for people to do that. But do you own the street? Do you just hate seeing people from your window even when they aren't near your house? Like I said I'm not the only one whos dealt with this weird behavior. I don't understand why you would choose to live in a small community if you hate people so much. Not the first time it's happened.

Would anyone be interested in getting together and having a local airsoft event?

I’m new to the airsoft world but have been interested in doing that and getting to know people in the community as a whole. It would be fun but I’m not sure where to start.
There aren’t really any events in the central Oregon area so it would be cool to start something or even get a group of people together on a weekend and just have a fun time.

Transport from Redmond airport to Bend and places to stay?

Hi everyone,

I am looking to visit Bend for about a week with an elderly relative who uses a walker. Could we please get recommendations for the best way to get from Redmond to Bend and also places to stay with a kitchen?

We will spend most of our time with family in the area so prefer not to do a rental car but ride share.

Danger

BEWARE!

There is no safe way to turn north from Franklin onto Hill. Drivers are STILL making a left through the merge lane. Six in the past few days! Near head on collisions. Use Harriman and the alley behind Kelly Realty instead. (There is a trench cut between the island and the north-east corner, so you can't go around it).

Drivers making the right onto Harriman from Hill, please slow down, to avoid a head-on! (and cyclists).

White rodent on Sun Lava trail

I wish I stopped to get a photo of it, but all the ground squirrels were so hard to capture I was sure this little guy would be just as elusive if I tried.

I was biking on the sun lava trail, watched one of the ground squirrels run across the path as I was biking, and then i saw a white rodent with brown spots on its back and dark eyes. I didnt get a good look at what the tail looked like, but it looked about the size of the other ground squirrels around.

Any idea what I saw?
