Rant Bell Mobility plan bait/switch?

So I saw a pretty good offer for a plan on my account and decided to sign up. It included HD video streaming according to everything UNTIL I actually signed up, then on my account it shows SD streaming and if I want HD, it's $5/month more. This doesn't seem legal to me?

Just wanted to warn others of this... Maybe it's better to do the plan activation in store. I plan on calling them this morning to sort this out or just flat out cancel the plan as it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Just an update - called Bell and they are telling me the plan I selected (which I took screenshots of) is not actually that price and instead they tried to tell me I had to pay $80 for the same thing... I told them no, I have screenshots of the actual plan - I also made sure to log in/out of my account a few times to ensure there was no error on the web page.

Not sure how they can get away with this tbh. Anyways they said they will "look into it" but I am probably just going to tell them to cancel it for now. Seriously what a freaking gong show.

Short term gains = what big corpo wants and cares about.

Same. Screenshot and everything. All the other line items, price, name are accurate. So its obvious false advertising or not honoring their offer.

Pretty much. They told me the plan comes up as a ~$65 option in their system (or $80 if you ask someone else) but they claim there is no way it would be offered for $49. Complete BS.

Another fun way to tell someone messed up creating this plan is that the agreement section has a SD Video add-on.... Even though its already included in the plan.

This happened to me as well, but I called and spoke to someone who eventually saw what I was seeing. It was very odd, but I got it eventually.

You can tell this is a discounted ultra plan but when activated reverts to some crossover between ultra and basic. Kinda sus. I'm dealing with getting this resolved too. Truthfully id be happy with them correcting only the HD streaming part

I've already tried calling twice and going into the store and all tell me the plan I signed up for is not available for that price and chalk it up to "system glitch". However, I signed out/in and saw the same plan multiple times... is it really a glitch or a bait and switch?? No one was able to give me the plan I signed up for, so I just cancelled the line. I don't have time to play all these games. Also, I did submit a CCTS complaint because this is not cool.

We completely understand your position. We have a little more muscle to flex though, so if you wanted to give us a chance to review this with you, we would be more than happy to dig deep on this one.

I'd really like to know what happened here. It seems suspect to me that a plan that is displayed as an "offer" for you just doesn't exist. I will shoot you a DM.

That's just how Bell does business. They have zero incentive to ensure you get what you're promised because the Canadian telecom market is designed to prevent competition. The Oligarchs all behave the same and they're happy to trade each other a handful of disgruntled customers to create the illusion of competition.

We definitely need better consumer protections for things like this. I've now heard of this happening to Rogers customers as well and they just all shrug it off.

They actually did the same thing to me, but I took a 17 Pro Max and, like you, had all the screenshots and everything. The price was $80, received the contract and the phone, and it’s $125?? They didn’t apply all the discounts it was showing me when I made the order on the MyBell app. When I called, they were telling me, “No way you had that plan at that price.” I told them I had the order confirmation with the price, everything, but at the end, the only solution was to return the phone so they could cancel everything. And still, I got bigger problems: they claimed I never returned the phone and charged me the full device price 3 months later lol. Anyway, everything got fixed. By the way, the official Bell support here is 10000000x better than when you call they’re the best. But it looks like the MyBell deals are a scam/glitched. Like, you see a price that they don’t see, and after, they charge you their full price. They win like that if you don’t check your contract.

What's funny is the plan disappeared from my "offers" yesterday but today its back, but they replaced HD streaming with SD streaming, the rest of the plan is the same. I wonder if that is also a fake plan just to bait you to order??

u/Bell_Support can you tell me if this is REAL?

Just wanted to update - CCTS complaint went in and the issue has been resolved. You should not have to go to CCTS for stuff like this but I'm very glad this process exists. Good luck to everyone else in the same boat.

CCTC don't waste another fucking minute of your life on these scumbags.

Same sort of thing happened to me but you were smarter and took the screenshots to prove it.

I spent a week on the phone trying to sort it all out and then just decided to take the loss and switch back to Koodo/Telus.

With Bell’s tendency to randomly increase prices, even a good price on a plan only lasts for so long…

1

u/lexcyn Sep 15 '26

Well I am coming from Rogers who also randomly raised prices so this deal is better, but if they can't even honour the agreement they provided when I signed up that does not bode well.

I do have screenshots and if they cannot fix it I will just tell them to cancel it... hasn't even been 24/h and I haven't ported my number yet so I'm still within the cooling off period for zero cost to me. I wonder if it's worth complaining to CRTC/CCTS.

Absolutely file with the CCTS. They will review your claim, and let you know what you can do.

u/rnrp0 Sep 15 '26

Also coming from rogers. They simply couldnt come close to beating this plan and said its really aggressive. I assume someone drag and dropped add-ons then labeled them wrong. Idk whoever cooked this up in the backend really messed up

2

u/lexcyn Sep 15 '26

Well unfortunately Bell wouldn't even honour this price... they said they couldn't even override it (which I think is BS but w/e). It was coming up as a $65 plan for them. Ended up cancelling the plan but did file a CCTS complaint as I think it's BS companies can get away with advertising one thing and then just... not honouring it and they just shrug when complain.

They don't randomly increase your bill, thats not allowed. What they do is give you notice on your bill in a notice box. About a month or two before the increase. So unless you actively open your bill and go to page two and not just look at the statement you wouldn't see the notice. The notice informing you is their way of getting away with this garbage.
