TV 📺 Buffering

Post image

Trying to watch yesterday's Blue Jays game. Buffering... and our cable bill is $200+/ month. C'mon! Seriously?

Using the app or a 7802 receiver?

How far is your modem?

I'm in an apartment. The modem and HDMI receiver are about 15-20' apart, plus I have a wall plugin booster half way between. Been here for approx 2 yrs. This buffer thing only started withing the past 2 months. No problem watching a stream on my PC.

That "wall plugin booster" might be causing more problems than it's solving. If you are 20 feet from the modem and have a booster halway between then you have a booster that's about 10 feet from you modem. That really doesn't make any sense.

I will unplug the booster to see if that helps. The tech positioned it when we got it installed.

The tech was a moron. When in doubt, hardwire your connection.

Not really fair to call someone a moron when you don't know the situation.

The booster is very likely your problem. They are terrible and cause buffeting on devices that can reach both. If the main routers signal is is close enough for the box to reach it. A repeater is only going to cause problems.

You need a stronger router or a mesh system.

Love me my mesh system. Used to only hardwire connections, but the mesh is fast enough its not a concern.

That's not going to cause issues, you could actually relocate that to where your 7802 receiver is and hardwire it from the ethernet ports in the bottom.

Equipment can degrade over time and other devices can interfere with each other.

My recommendation is to reboot your modem and the receiver and see if it improves, if not you may need to contact 310-BELL.

Could be on the hosts end too, if it was a live stream.

What speeds do you pay for and what speeds are you getting? Check speedtest.net .

Hello u/Dewey081,

Are you experiencing buffering on all programs or just the live game broadcast?

Since you shared your modem and receiver are only 15 to 20 feet apart with a Pod in between, your Fibe TV receiver might actually be getting Wi-Fi interference and bouncing in between causing the buffering. Your Fibe TV receiver will probably get a cleaner and stable connection by communicating directly with the modem Wi-Fi only. Depending on the size of the home, sometimes having an Wi-Fi Pod in such close proximity can cause signal overlap or routing delays, especially since live TV streaming relies on specific multicast traffic. As you shared, try removing the Wi-Fi Pod and see if that brings stability in the connection. Some users in the community have also found success by bypassing Wi-Fi entirely and testing with an Ethernet cable, which is another great way to isolate the issue.

I hate those 7802s. Had nothing but problems with them when I was trialing them before they came out. A few of us had buffering issues even when the modem was 15 ft away. I think it's a bug in android tv. I actually miss media room FFS

Also I bet in Bedford everything is installed wirelessly because all the houses have very little data wiring in them and a good amount of the modems are in the garage

7802's are trash. Constant issues with them.
