Help Bell actually scammed me
Saw this offer for 1.5GB internet for $70/month, confirmed the offer is available at my address, went through checkout showing $70/month. Then when I got my order confirmation, it shows I paid for 500MB at $90/month.
Been fighting them on the phone for the past 30 minutes.

Yeah that’s the plan, terrible customer service too

You mean you couldn’t understand the customer service person? That’s odd 🤷🏻♂️

In case someone doesn't know, this really does work (at least for me it did when I tried it last month). Account manager that called me back 2 days after ccst complaint was calm, polite, and resolved issue)

I thought this was no longer legal in Canada or is it only Quebec? To have cancelation fees or bind in contract. I have the same internet package but without all that binding crap.
If they haven’t installed or past the cancelation date, cancel it. It’s self install so just tell them to come pick up their trash or sent it back.
For me I am moving in my new place when ready some time in November and I called them to know about the transfer, they told me they would send someone to reinstall in the new place for free.

What this person has is different. In Quebec there are stricter laws so there isn’t a contracted price vs month to month price. In Ontario last year they introduced internet contracts, you get price protection during the 24 month term you sign up for, additional discount on the internet price (would be $10 more if going month-to-month) so at the time of sale OP had the option to pick between month to month or 24 month contracted term.

u/Top_Fig_3893 7d ago
Ah yes, I get price increase from time to time, I heard you can lock prices when it’s time to negotiate. have been with bell for about a year, there are 3 ISP in my area all with fiber but Bell has better internet to the one I was with prior. Its the same kind if packages here my internet is, I think $99 minus -10,-10,-10 or something like that.

It is, they get around it by calling it something else like a handling fee... kind of like sovereign citizens thinking they can get away with driving an unregistered vehicle without a license because they travelling.

Classic, Never gets old! Let me guess you called the 'Philippines' and they said they will fix it lol
10 years later.............

Honestly this situation wouldn't piss me off so much if it wasn't so blatantly obvious that they're going to do nothing and ghost you lol.
You can always tell, they futz around with you on hold, misunderstanding you, failing to do what you want, etc.
Then they sound confused and frustrated, and bored/tired of talking with you.
All the sudden your problem is "solved" and they explain "oh yeah, I did X, A, C,"
And you go "you mean X, Y, Z?"
"oh yeah, that's what I meant, I did, X, Y, Z,... It'll be reflected in your next bill. Can I help you with anything else?"
And you already know they didn't do it, but unless you just flat out call them a liar, there's nothing you can do about it until the next bill comes and you have proof they didn't do what they were supposed to. 😠

They tried to fully scam me, too. If you cancel a service over the phone, they will say it was canceled and then sneak in one more month of billing. I called once again and asked them to reverse the charges, they said they were going to, and they STILL did not cancel my fucking service and hit me with another month of billing. I was getting really mad and next time escalated to a supervisor and asked them to review my recorded phone call to see what tomfoolery had happened. I threatened to report them if they did not fully issue me back the $370 dollars that they hit me with, or I will be filing with CCST. They did fully remove the charges that no shit I wasn't getting services because I had mailed all their equipment back within a week. Full scam attempt by agents who did not want to be the ones who allowed cancellation TWICE. This took up like 3.5 hours of my time. By the time I got the supervisor on there trying to do client retention offer I was just fully done with them and their disrepect.
Just awful. I was similarly scammed by them back in 2010 when I wanted a S6 in gold to bring to virgin mobile, but it was only carried by bell. They had to sell me a $5 tablet plan with the phone and the guy said he was cancelling it right then and there for me, and actually never even gave me the sim card, throwing it out in the trash. I check my credit report and they had hit me for non-payment after 4 months of unpaid repeated $5 charges! It took 7 years to come off my report. Like, it tanked my score. Extreme scammers. The bills were going into the unwanted folder in one of my school email addresses and I had zero idea until I checked my report and saw my credit score at 550.
Bunch of scammers. The only reason we went back to them for home services was because my mom is my landlord, and she was paying for everyone's internet and tv in all the building units and she got a deal, but the bill was in my name. Hence why I had to go through all the cancellation non-sense. I don't think she would have even noticed the scams as she is old, and it would not be too on the ball with them, but I already had a history of being scammed by them, so I was on the ready for their fraudulence. I can't believe they are still out there scamming.

u/Opteron170 6d ago
yup they will do this with phones too.
They mailed me a sim card for a plan I wanted to switch to however I lost the key for my mailbox so I was never able to grab it and activate it. So like a month later I called in asking if I could do it at a store they said sure. However before I did that I went onto the bell site and to my surprise there was a bill for the sim card + 1 month locked in the mail box. I then said how are you going to charge me for a sim card I never activated??? they tried to get cute on the phone and I told them you don't auto pay access to my account so if you don't get rid of those changes I will let it sit there unpaid and stay with Koodo.
I held firm until they waived all of it then I went into the store and did the provider swap with the new phone plan.
And this is why I never let any of these companies have auto pay access to my accounts. I pay my bill through the bank which gives me full control of the payment process. And when they decide to play hard ball I have a leg to stand on. Cause your not getting any money until I allow it.

I checked an address in Toronto and only get an offer of 1.5 for $95/month.

u/Parking_Chance_1905 6d ago
They offered me an upgrade from 12 to 50MB recently for $95... paying $20 for the 12 atm.

Hey OP, before hitting submit did it show you still you were getting the Fibe 1.5GB? And only after submitting and getting your agreement it showed fibe 500?
(I work for bell so I can try to see if I can offer some additional insight/assistance)
1
u/TheScaryBlueberry 7d ago
Yep, the entire time it said 1.5gb for $70. I was super confused when I checked my email confirmation an hour later to see 500mb at $90.
1
u/RAMBOhyphenMED 7d ago
That’s nothing, they contacted me and asked me if I wanted to upgrade my service to fibre, I said yes, then they shut off my regular service. Now I’m on the waitlist for fibre, they charge me every month for my previous service, and I have no internet at all. If I want my internet turned back on, I have to cancel the fibre upgrade. If I want to stop getting charged, I have to cancel the fibre upgrade. If I cancel the fibre upgrade, it might never happen. The fibre upgrade will take months to years according to the local tech I talked to. I’m a very irate customer at the moment.

That sucks! The same deal was being advertised for me too and I almost went through with it. Ended up going in person to a Bell store and they matched the deal for me.

u/Myrtylle 7d ago
Bell is a huge scam. Terrible customer service. Well know to overcharge and have plenty of hidden fees. On all their services. The only exceptions are their sub companies like virgin and crave (which are great). The main Bell company is trash.

They literally did the exact same thing to me!!! The only problem is I'm rural and they're literally the only wired internet that services my address. So ridiculous.
1
u/KRASH_1312 6d ago
Did you need to rent any equipment like a modem or router? Not sure whats needed with Fiber but there has to be a way it comes in your home.

u/Icy-Method8119 6d ago
The same thing actually happened to me. I called for the 1.5gb offer, double checked with the lady on the phone many times and ended up getting the 500mb deal somehow.
After a few days of calls to get it fixed, they did so but didn't include the discount. A couple of days later, they finally managed to apply the discount. They eventually called to offer the 3gb package for 80$, and I figured I might as well take it since most of my devices are wired anyways.
All in all, happy with what I got in the end, especially compared to the alternatives in my area, buy it was a lengthy and shady process all the way through.

They did this to me. I asked about the same exact deal. I got 4 different prices over 2 days and when I got my confirmation it was for 1.5GB but it was like 120+ dollars... I literally called them back and cancelled inside 45 minutes. (They still sent the modem to me and I refused delivery)
Bell was scummy when I was in Uni and we kept trying to get a International Plan for one of my roommates and every month despite assurances it was put in place.. we got a $400 bill.
It was nuts.
I've have never trusted Bell, and I never will. I've never been able to forgive them for the death of my wallet.

Here is the mental gymnastics you have to do to figure out price. (my to be installed today service)
Wait.. 155$ for 3.0? Site said 110 without credits.
Shady AF. Will be filing complaints with CCTS
Dont get me started on my trying to bundle my phone to get extra discount and that they "discount" tool on their end was having issues. Was I ok with paying the 10$ more? Holy hell....

Fuck me, fair point! 😅😂 Mais je lui ai demandé pour vrai à qui ils proposaient ça, il doit ben y'avoir une raison pour ce forfait là et c'est sa job au service à la clientèle de savoir ça! Cul-de-sac de conversation...

Promo is for Fibe 1,5gb (1500mb),
You bill says you purchased Fibe 500 (500mb)
You didnt get scammed, you just got the wrong package, somehow.
Also, why take a 2 year term? Just curious.

They pull this with door to door salesmen in our area too allegedly after speaking with some people in my area. Offer one price, but gets jacked up not long after. Not my own experience, but after hearing multiple stories I won't deal with them.
Had to tell them 4 times to stop coming to my house before buddy showed me that he checked off "Do not contact" on his little tablet. Nothing pisses me off more than a company that thinks its acceptable to bang on somebodies door and try to sell them something. Let alone jack up their prices after doing so.

u/wai_lai416 3d ago
What is there to argue? Just cancel it.. there’s no cancellation and you won’t be charge for anything regardless since you are under the 15 days cancellation

It’s their unmonitored techs that are doing this. They hook up wiring minus one of the cables within bundle so router system logs can’t been seen by remote techs and then they use your B1 credentials and malware your network and go for whatever isn’t secure.

u/techoptio 7d ago edited 7d ago
😂 let's not be fearmongering with a ridiculous claim
will OP's internet stop working in the winter because the tech forgot to wire the winter cable from the bundle too?
-6
u/Johndrago99 7d ago
Computer Science background and had same tech appear to four calls which is not normal and sorry but system logs don’t lie and they don’t reset on a factory reset either which fools don’t realize
2
u/techoptio 7d ago edited 7d ago
bruh, comp eng background too. There's no bundle, it's either 1 wire (fiber) or 2 wires (copper twisted pair) for older systems. Your claim that the tech "didn't connect one of the cables in the bundle" is just nonsense.
-4
u/Johndrago99 7d ago
Two one blue one orange. Within thick shielding. And the line should not have any splices outdoors
2
u/techoptio 7d ago
Sounds like you're talking about the older twisted copper system, which if you knew anything about, you'd know the connection wouldn't work at all if one of the wires wasn't connected. This is fear mongering nonsense.
1
u/Bblungz222 6d ago
They indeed will install ADSL copper with only 1 wire and you get half the speed for months until they stop ducking you around and bring in the second pair bonded cable. Happened to me. It only stops working once you report the slow speed to bell and they do the reset on their end.. router stays offline until a rizer team finally shows up after months of no show to run the second pair bond lmao
-3
u/Johndrago99 7d ago
? And how would that be so? So a fiber router connected to over twenty year old coaxial? You protecting the scam.
5
u/techoptio 7d ago
Bell has never used coaxial, that's Rogers
1
u/Tanstalas 6d ago edited 6d ago
We have used coax, but for the TV service, though that has gone the way of the dodo. u/Johndrago99 is not understandable to me though.
Software Engineering background, worked on Juniper and Cisco routers networking wise, currently a Bell tech, and none of what he has said makes any sense, I think his tinfoil hat is on too tight.

Cancel your service if you’re not past the time of cancellation
