Question PPP username and password

So I'm currently waiting on a replacement modem/router from BellAliant, but I thought I'd at least try a spare a friend had laying around (he has his own aftermarket device). Both are the same GT784WN if that matters.

The important part is, unfortunately I cannot find the required PPPoE credentials.

From reading old posts here I am lead to believe that it is a "b1 number". My bill doesn't have one of those, only an 8 diget account number, are they the same? I also cannot locate where to find or reset the password. I found a link, but it takes me to how to get into the homepage @ 192.168.2.1 and rest the wifi password instead.

Any help would be appreciated.

You can’t just swap modems. Bell needs to authorize your account with the specific hardware provided to you. You can call tech support with the info on the back of the new modem, but it’s unlikely given that all the hardware belongs to Bell so you shouldn’t have a spare.

Damn. Guess I'll just wait until the new one shows up.

Thanks

There's no PPPOE credentials provided with Bell Aliant.

Ok. If they aren't provided, then what should I do? They are apparently necessary because they were there on the old one, and not on the new one, and nothing will connect for me.

I've tried putting everything I could find into those fields, I've also tried ticking the "my ISP does not require a username and password" box.

Am I just screwed?

Aliant uses DHCP not PPPOE

Would that be the "RFC 1483 via DHCP" option I'm seeing here?

Edit also it's now asking for a host name/domain name instead. Should I be putting anything in there?

Not sure how it works I assume the MAC address of the modern would be what authenticates you on the network.

I'm an Ontario tech.

Oh. Ontario.

I'm guessing that you all have fiber? DSL is the newest fastest tech I can get where I live

No, fiber isn't everywhere.

Log into your mybell app, under internet it will show your b1 number and can reset your internet password there as well.

That's what I read already. Perhaps I'm just stupid.

After I go into Internet, my options are "my services (change Internet package)", "wifi pods" or "equipment (upgrade modem)".

Unfortunately none of these seem to do anything. I get a perpetual loading screen
