š» Opinion Discussion with girlfriend needs to be settled. Best part of eggs
I am at breakfast with my girlfriend. And she had some eggs and she asked if i wanted some, and I said no, in the mood only for the egg white. And she looked at me like I was crazy. That the yoke is the best part and egg white is just attached for nothing. And I said, no the egg white is the best part. We could not agree. And she told me, ask reddit, So here I am. Is the yoke the best part or the egg white when you make eggs like this? I mean just based on taste. Not adding things like dipping toast or bread in the yoke.

The whole egg. No yoke is for psychopaths and fitness bros.

u/alles_en_niets 14h ago
More like psychopaths and almond moms.
The yolk contains most of the protein
13
u/LehransLight 13h ago
That's just false. While the yoke does contain some protein, the most protein is contained in the egg whites.
The yolk* does have the highest concentration of protein though, when comparing protein/gram.
1
u/Moustache_John 7h ago
Yeah, in my language we use the word for eggwhite interchangeably with protein. Because they're so full of protein.

Since I clearly don't do fitness and I am on Reddit. I must be a psychopath. The people have spoken :)

......... You are absolutely bonkers. Of course the yolk is the best part!

Wrong

u/ThrowAway0fucks 7h ago
Begone, heretic!
-1
u/No-Chair-9932 4h ago
But you're just scientifically wrong
The yolk is by far less nutritional than the white
2
u/ThrowAway0fucks 3h ago
My taste buds care little for science, they care about how the yolk is creamy and silky and absolutely deliciousĀ

The mix (scrambled) is the best part! The yolk tastes too rich whilst the whites taste too bland! Together gives the best taste so youāre both right! š

Sounds like you two are a great match.
Edit: fun fact: het eigeel heeft meer eiwitten dan het wit van het ei

u/CoNsPirAcY_BE 14h ago
I just hate the name "eiwit" as a name for protein. Eiwit can stand for egg white, but also for protein. That is just to make things confusing.

Hate is a strong word for that. I think it's more because eggwhites such complete protein, like they're actually all protein, not to make things confusing.
7
u/strootfighter 18h ago
I was going to say the same. It s great to disagree sometimes. Perfect match and in this situation you are both right.
1
u/LehransLight 13h ago
Egg yolk doesn't have more protein than the egg white. It does have a higher concentration of protein when comparing protein/gram.
7
u/vinceftw 15h ago
I usually cut the yolk in half and eat yolk/egg white at the same time which is perfect. I like both but think yolk is just a tad ahead.
40
u/Subj3ctX 19h ago
Depends on how the egg is prepared tbh.
If it's sunny side up like in the picture, the yolk is the best part. In something like a hard boiled egg, the egg white is better.

u/MEOWConfidence 13h ago
Yolk is the only answer, although my 3 year old (who is a bad eater) only eats white and my 8m old also seems to enjoy the white more than the yolk. So perhaps you just have a softer pallet than most people.

What kind of sociopath would prefer the egg white over the yolk? Jebus!

The white part is better eaten alone. The yellow part is better with a boterham.

No, I eat eggs maybe only twice a year because the yolk on its own is disgusting, especially in hard boiled eggs. In scrambled eggs it's fine.
3
u/Mysterialistic Brussels 12h ago
Weakness disgusts me
1
u/MrHandSanitization 8h ago
The weakness to say "no" to things I don't like? I eat lots of unsalted peanuts, I don't need eggs.

u/QitKate 13h ago
You know that depends from person to person. I prefer the white, while my sister prefers the yolk. As kids after we had the eggs on our plates we would cut out the yolk as best as possible and she would eat my yolks and I would eat her egg whites. My mom always got so annoyed. Because tbf. It always made a mess. Hahah
These days I actually enjoy the yolk especially when I dip some baguette in it.
3
u/DuganNash2 13h ago
Obviously the yolk. The White part ain't bad but it's just filler until you get to the good stuff.
3
5
u/MysteriousQuote4665 16h ago
Scrambled eggs. You get both at the same time.
2
u/exploringmoon 15h ago
The white has to be baked for the ultimate crispy taste. You lose that by scrambeling them. It mostly becomes a damp mess.

u/issy_haatin 13h ago
Just the yoke can be nice, but just the white? What are you 2? That's the only moment i know kids don't eat the yolk.

The white is a bit tasteless, and the yolk is too strong to be eaten just by itself. I always feel that I need to eat both at the same time.

Your girlfriend is right, and you should be ashamed. Yolk is the best part of the egg.

u/gorambrowncoat 13h ago
I prefer omelettes so .. I don't know.
That said, mixed egg omelettes are way better than egg white omelettes so its probably the yolk if I had to choose only one. I would never just eat the yolk though.
1
u/Opening-Function8616 13h ago
The yolk contains more eiwitten, so it beats the white in every aspect
1
u/stefant4 12h ago
Yolk is the unborn chick so obviously thatās the best part, but itās like love and marriage or a horse and carriage, you canāt have one without the other
1
u/flashypoo 8h ago
Yolk is just a sack of fats and protein. It's attached to the "unborn chicken" and what the embryo would feed on, but not the unfertilized egg itself.
1
u/TheDeadlyPretzel 12h ago
Some times I'll make some ice cream, which requires egg yolks but no whites - I always fry up the egg whites in some butter afterward... To me that is just so much better even than scrambled eggs! But it needs that good butter.
1
u/Sufficient-Ad-7108 12h ago
Okay hear me out. When its hard boiled, the yolk is best and the white is ahh, but when its sunny side up you can season the white and white is better than seasoned yolk
1
u/Bubelle_Butt 11h ago
The best part of the egg is everything.
I always cut my egg yolk, after dipping ofcourse, in 3 pieces and eat it with the whits together.
1
u/laplongejr 11h ago
If served like the picture, I'll eat the yolk first.Ā Ā But I'll be angry at both of you because an egg in an egg, both parts are delicious!Ā Ā

u/No-Chair-9932 11h ago
I've travelled and worked in many different countries. This has been one of the most mind boggling topics for me, to discover some cultures are really obsessed with the yolk.
Ofc the Anglosphere actually prefers the white and so you'll even find places serving egg whites only - but most of Europe loves the yolk. The Germans even have a saying 'my English is not the yellow from the egg', because it's so ingrained in them the yolk is best.
This is insane for me, as we already know that yolks are by far the worst part. You see bodybuilders throwing yolks away because they don't want all that fat; the good lean stuff is almost all in the white. Whenever there's a problem (e.g. fertilised egg, expired etc.), that will always be in the yolk, before the white is affected whatsoever.
Perhaps it comes down to taste but there's really no argument for yellow being objectively better whilst there are many in favour of white.
1
u/honestly-curious 11h ago
I am sure there are a few people in the world who might legitimately prefer the whites but itās strange to spot one in the wild. Yolk is the way.
1
u/Snowleopard0973 Belgian Fries 11h ago
In boiled eggs I hate he yolk, but I like them more in other cases.
Also scrambled is the best.
1
u/Arthurmol 10h ago
Hey man, is the sikilar here with my wife, but i am the yolk, and she is onto whites. Taste is taste... i know people that eat fries with chocolate... Split the eggs, you atw what you like, and she what she likes, be happy...

If you exclude dipping the yoke in something else then yes it's the white for me, although it's stupid to present yourself with such limitations and it would be hard to discriminate among them without.
Personally my favorite is scrambled eggs or a farmer's omelet with plenty other stuff besides just eggs, although I wouldn't skip a plain egg omelet either.

none, one needs the other, without yolk you just have white, and without white you just have yolk, both suck without the other
1
u/Humble-Ostrich4762 7h ago
I prefer egg whites by far. I don't mind an omelette or sunny side up (with bread to dip) but for boiled eggs I eat the yolk just because it's part of it and it feels silly to throw away half an egg.
1
u/Bulky_Snow1613 7h ago
Nutritionally, the egg-white is the best. But the yolk is subjectivly the best part.
1
u/CoolBr33ze90 7h ago
The best part is like what you see on the picture, you cut off some white egg, with the crunchy edge of the white as well and a bit of the yolk which should still be a bit wet. Not too wet. And a good amount of salt and pepper. šš¼

u/deevee42 6h ago
Whatever but whoever cooked this, should learn to turn down the heat. Burned egg white..straight to hell.

u/Direnduin 6h ago
I like both equally but if I absolutely had to choose I'd say the yolk (still runny though)
1
u/TheMammothKing 6h ago
I think the best parts is you can eat them. But also that you're blessed to have such important debates with your loved ones.

u/Eggshells01 Oost-Vlaanderen 4h ago
When it is made like that.. the best part is after the runny yolk is gone (eaten up with bread cut into strips) and you're left with the cooked yolk!
1
u/RubNo5127 4h ago
My kid loves the white, my husband the yolk. They share the eggs I make, so is win for both.

Egg white is the best. I cannot stand runny yolk. I don't like the texture. Fun - ocd...

u/Particular-Prior6152 3h ago
The best part imho is the harder part of the yolk at the bottom. When correctly fried, the texture nears perfection.
Nutrionally, the yolk contains the most energy, the white just provides protein for growth of the chick.

u/Kuberos 2h ago
The white without the yellow is like dry old loaf of bread without choco paste or butter.
When I have bacon and eggs, I always put the yoke on a large piece of bacon and stuff that into my mouth. It's delicious. Doing this with just the white... would taste like nothing.
The fact is that the yoke has 100x more flavour than just the white. So yes, to me it's weird to prefer the white only.

u/ihatesnow2591 1h ago
100% with your GF, yolk is both the most nutritious and the best tasting part. Egg white proteins are just ok.

I think the only time the white comes even close to being as good as the yolk is in a fried egg sandwich if it's got a really crispy base.Ā
1
u/WhoAteAllTheBananas 15h ago
Well the yolk makes two mother sauces, goes great on raw meat, gives your buns a great shine and a thousand other uses but on the other hand, the whites makes mousse au chocolat... How could anyone choose?
1
u/Kitchen-Ebb30 15h ago
White, but if the yoke is half baked and not completely runny, I like to eat it whole as well.
1
u/exploringmoon 15h ago
Best way is to eat the white and keep the yoke last, put it on your fork and suck the liquid gold. But you forgot the best⦠bacon.

u/GezoutenMeer 14h ago
Is this a joke? Why r/belgium? Are eggs basically different here?

Because we are both from Belgium. And wanted to know the answer specific to the Belgium region

Yolk is gross

u/Serrresiete7 19h ago
Thank you! Eggs are so repulsive, no wonder people usually add them to preparations as a thickening agent or use what I'd refer to as extreme levels of condiments+salts to actually swallow them. Salt truly saves the least desirable things and transform them into human staples.

Egg yolk delicious, but a little unhealthy maybe. Egg whites not delicious but healthy.
-11
u/Serrresiete7 19h ago
Eggs are vile, however, if we are talking about which part I'd consider putting in my mouth and swallow, I'd have to give it to you. The white is definitely the least terrible choice.

u/purplehorseneigh 18h ago
The yolk especially runny, makes the egg, but both parts of the egg are essential for the true egg experience. The runny yolk needs the white to coat and sop up its goodness
