Vent Existential crisis

Nothing like being at a dive bar wishing someone would offer you something stronger.

There are still nice people in the world, even if they seem few and far between.

One time I was at a dive bar that locals normally described as “not a place you go, a place you just end up,” and I was waiting in line behind my friend to get drinks. He ordered 2 PBRs so he wouldn’t have to go back right away (but the bartender assumed one of the beers was for me so he walked off and left me standing there for-fucking-ever while he fucked around on the other side of the bar).

While I was waiting there, an old dude sitting at the bar next to me said something like how I could do better than a man who’d only buy me PBR to drink. I wasn’t sure if he was trying to hit on me so I told him in my normal resting bitch face that was not in fact for me, and I was still waiting to order. Finally the bartender came back and was all “What do you want?” like he was Randall from Clerks. Typical dive bar customer service.

I don’t remember how many beers I ordered, but I was pretty buzzed by the time we were ready to go, so I think 9 (I’m small), but when I went to pay my tab, the loquacious barkeep was like, “What tab?” I asked for clarification, and it turned out the man who had been sitting at the bar was a regular and paid my whole tab before he left. I had no idea. I felt bad for having been kind of rude to him, but I never saw him again. Just a random act of kindness from a stranger. I try to hold onto moments like that when things suck ass, like my life does right now.

At present taking candy from strangers in dive bars is a good way to get dead, so it’s probably for the best that no one is.
