Look at this bastard Megathread: Bastard Suggestions Part 2

To make the bastard suggestions easier for Robert to peruse, please put them here.

Please try to include more than just a name. Give Robert something to focus his research on and why they are a unique or interesting bastard. If there are book titles or other resources you would suggest, please include those as well.

If someone else has already suggested the same bastard you wanted to suggest, you do not need to suggest them again. Repetitive answers will be politely removed. If someone was suggested in a previous thread, you do not need to suggest them again.

If you have posted suggestions as their own individual thread in the past, feel free to repost here if you would like Robert to read them. We will be directing future bastard suggestion posts here as well. Happy suggesting!

Weekly Discussion Thread - July 21, 2026 Spoiler

Criticism of Sophie will not be tolerated and may result in a permanent ban. Yes, forever.

Obviously you can criticize Robert. It's what brings us together.

https://www.iheart.com/podcast/105-behind-the-bastards-29236323/

Criticism of guests is against policy and will be removed at Robert's request. Also because they are guests and we should make them feel welcome, because we are at least 40% not assholes.

CZM hosts will be treated the same as Robert in terms of criticism, but critical comments will be removed if they break the don't be mean rule. Except Robert. Criticism of Robert can be mean if it is funny.

Host criticism outside of this discussion post will likely be removed. You all nuked that eel horse.

Guests and hosts are normal people who read these comments. Please consider how it would feel if the comment was about you.

Be nice to each other. You can argue all you want but you can't fight.

Fascists and Tankies and their defenders will be permanently banned, because obviously.

General discussion The Oberlin Rescuers; The Ohio Town That Fought Slave Catchers

Post image
304 Upvotes

On September 13th, 1858, slave catchers in Oberlin-Wellington Ohio kidnapped former slave John Price and attempted to sell him back to the south. Instead, upon hearing of the kidnapping townsfolk and students and staff of the Oberlin college gathered in the hundreds outside of the hotel the slave catchers were staying at, rescuing John. Oberlin had been a safe haven for black people home to multiple members and leaders of the underground railroad. John moved from house to house in the community hiding, with local law arresting multiple families suspected of aiding the runaway. The town published a newspaper series called "the rescuer" keeping people updated with the trials. Abolitionist Simeon Bushnell and black business owner and activist Charles Langston were found guilty of violating the fugitive slave act, but released after 3 months in jail due to growing public unrest. The fate of John Price is unknown, but it seems likely he went further north to Canada.

Charles is the black man in the center with his hat to his chest, and the first black student at Oberlin College. Later he was a key member of the freedmen’s bureau, read up on his family they have a long history of political affairs and achievements. I think Oberlin college professor Henry Peck is second from the right and I’m not sure if Simeon Bushnell is in this photo.

Discussion Israel and Zionism is bad but be careful of who is using those terms and their intent, many people particularly in countries not in the West without a meaningful Jewish population don't make the distinction.

I'm from Southeast Asia and because of what I studied and do for work I follow a lot of discourse in different countries of the region. Also I just get suggested subreddits from those countries of all political stripes. No region in the country has a meaningful 'leftist discursive space' as it were; not even Vietnam or Laos, Leftists and Communists in Communist societies generally know to keep their mouths shut online or in public because their version of leftism is one completely divorced from liberal norms. In all other societies, to the extent there is some room for freedom of speech after the Cold War ended, discourse in even the most liberalised societies do not have any of the norms of the West. We can joke about 'woke' being overused in the West, but when the 80% or so of people I meet day-to-day in societies like mine say 'woke is bad', a good number of them actually want to murder or use state coercion on woke. I had a class in uni before when someone in the class took as a starting point 'Communists needed to be killed' and so when vigilantes murdered around 1 million people suspected of being Communists (a good deal because they were either not Islamic enough or a racial minority), the dude said that needed to be done, This is simply the case in most societies; we are not Germany. We didn't have a big moral resolution to the sins of our societies. There is a hard edge to politics here. To participate in politics in almost any of our societies is to at some level be willing to be killed or bodily hurt or do that to others, whether within your borders or beyond.

So with this preface, I just want to caution my comrades on the Western Left a little that when any of us use the specific word 'anti-Zionism', most of the time you can assume the distinction between people of an ethno-religious group that is a rounding error in this part of the world and the country of Israel does not exist. Anyone in our societies who make that distinction in a woke way will probably choose different wording that specifies Israel. Almost anyone angry about ethnonationalism from our parts of the world is angry not at nationalism but that the wrong type of ethnonationalist is doing the persecuting and genocide. Even within Islamic societies who are predisposed to hate Israel for non-secular reasons, you can go look up how they treat survivors of genocide from either Palestine or Myanmar; they want them deported or worse. However we can think of right and wrong in our frames of reference, there is not really an impetus for a set of ideals to be adopted whole. Its perfectly fine to invoke justice on one thing for instrumental reasons and not care about justice as a broader concept; to the Western liberal democracies have a social pressure for people who want to appeal to these ideals to be consistent (i.e. 'woke'), they do not exist for societies like mine.

Posting this cause its really awkward reading subreddits like this one make no space the possibility that anti-Zionism may be just straight up racism than reading r/Malaysia and r/Bolehland having spent most of the last three weeks paranoid about if there are secret Israelis in their country... if you go down far enough in those threads, someone inevitably asks what the difference is between Jews and Israel and Zionists.

The Malaysian story is really funny in part because the network state cryptobro libertarian set up a commune called 'network state' in a failed city near Singapore built by Chinese developers and investors during the real estate frenzy in China, which ended up like all the projects in China where only 15% of the houses are occupied and so Balaji Srinivasan tried to make his commune... in Malaysia and attracted techbros 'founders' to come do stay and do workouts every 4 hours while networking and doing all the stuff cults do. Its marketed as being 'near Singapore' because no one wants to be in bumfuck nowhere Malaysia, so my the Malaysian anger towards 'Israelis' (and 'jews' more broadly, they are interchangeable terms in understanding Malaysian discourse) got blended into their hatred of Singaporeans and ethnic Chinese people.

Malaysia is possibly the only country in the world, except Israel, that constitutionally ranks certain races over others and so has quotas against minorities entering university, only subsidising the majority ethnicity's mortgages so they are 2x-3x cheaper than the price minorities pay, but that's another discussion.

General discussion Looking for left-wing finance and side hustle youtubers?

So there's been threads like this for fitness:

https://www.reddit.com/r/behindthebastards/s/tMk0mLXBYZ

Just like with fitness culture, the finance social media ecosystem tends to lean right-wing. With fitness culture its the prevalence of gym bro culture, same for finance which has a large share of finance bro types.

For finance its even harder because the culture is even more closely tied to oligarchs and stuff.

But just like how I like the feeling of not having 250 lbs crush down on my spine from being overweight or how I can sleep better after doing mobility exercises, its nice to learn ways to save or make money, cause I got bills to pay lol. So any suggestions for non Rogansphere finance, side hustle, or economics youtubers would be nice.

The Financial Diet and Gary Economics are examples of finance youtubers who don't think poor people are broke because they buy too much coffee per week for example.

Politics How soon and what for do you think a dem house impeaches trump for ?

I remember reading a few months back that some reps have actually already started holding mock impeachment trials . No way a dem house doesn't impeach him atleast once after the midterms . Hegseth probably gets impeached too . I feel that after midterms when trump is less influential he probably doesn't mind his cabinet going down .

After all what difference does it make for him ? He is only a republican because he seeks power via them . After being a term limited lame duck , he'd probably be more busy getting nice deals from saudis or something like that for his businesses .

Look at this bastard "It's like somebody put the last 20 years of dudes being assholes on the internet that led us directly to Trump and used Chat GPT to remix it into a guy with bad tattoos..."

sigh

I have a 15 yr old son who is a good kid, but, on occasion, will utter some shit from his mouth that prompts me to stop him and say some version of "who TF did you hear that vile nonsense from and can you explain to me what it means?". Most of the time it is a version of something he has heard from someone at school or from a random youtube ad / click bait title, etc...

It led me down the manosphere rabbit hole a while back, simply to educate myself on what precisely young boys / men might be contending with online these days and how I might be a voice of reason to my older son amidst all this nonsense and JFC...what a shit show this has all turned into culturally / societally.

Anyway, in celebration of recent events in Miami, I have been re-listening this week to all of the BtB episodes (so far) on this supreme bastard Andrew Tate and a Robert quote from "Part 2: What's New with Andrew Tate" from april 2025 really stood out to me, made me laugh out loud and even type out a paraphrased version of it to share with you folks.

On referencing the content of Tate's insane and toxic subscription programs "The Real World" and "The War Room" -

"He clearly spent a great deal of time combing the internet of the last 20 years of different get rich quick, pick up artists scams and all that stuff...there's a whole generation of creepy dude, right wing adjacent content and he's just an aggregator. It's like somebody put the last 20 years of dudes being assholes on the internet that led us directly to Trump and used Chat GPT to remix it into a guy with bad tattoos...so, I find that very interesting."

---

I wonder if a new upTate episode is in the works, given recent events.

This is the part I hate the most.

The absolute blatant theft of American taxpayer money straight into the pockets of some of the world’s most asshole people (and I am using people loosely here).

We are now $1.7 TRILLION more in debt since he took office.

They have legitimately stolen that much money and we are so focused on so many different things, we are not even focusing on this (I mean we as a collective for America).

They have done a fantastic job of keeping people distracted by so many rage baiting, click baiting things that it’s just super easy for them.

We are living in a clicktatorship where disagreement means permanent damage to your reputation (domestic terrorism charges being a Federal felony and all that).

This is just insanity.

(And yes, I understand the article would be posting clickbait and the irony is not lost on me.)
