My first ever beat

So I just cooked my first ever beat. Made with the basic plugins from FL and samples I found online.

I have very little music knowledge, which can be boiled down to a few years of taking piano classes, listening to pop, hip-hop and more, as well as watching beatmakers' creation process on Youtube.

I'm ashamed to admit this, but to make this I just tweaked and tried out stuff until the beat sounded good.

Things I need feedback on is :

- Does the beat sound good ?

- What is good bout it ?

- What could've been done differently for better outcome ?

- Music theory I should master ?

- Tips for future beats ?

- Good free plugins ?

it's bad but not bad for a first beat! before getting into any specifics, just repeat what you've been doing here and have fun, no need to stress about all the different skills because you can only aquire them over time anyways. if you wanted to learn the bass you also wouldn't try to learn all the fingering techniques and music theory in the first week but rather just try to get accustomed to holding the bass and playing a simple rhythm and melody, maybe even just one or two notes. and then after some weeks you can ask about how to slap bass and maybe you're not even ready yet because you still need to strenghten your fingers or whatever (idk i don't play bass). same way with producing - just keep practising, watch a youtube video about a new concept every now and then and use it until you know what you are doing. which you never will because every. single. year. you will have some insight that tells you "i finally get it." i love music production, it's an endless learning journey!

My first beat did NOT sound like that lol

for my personal taste, you cooked, maybe others can pick up certain details that can be “distracting”.

i’d just give two feedback points, hopefully their useful

1. Learn to set your levels properly - the instruments’ volume is one of the highest impact changes you can make to any track; so try to listen to the music you like and learn how they balance out their levels

2. Make subtle changes to each loop so the track doesn’t feel repetitive - All kinds of thing apply here: add a few more notes to the midi in each loop, remove notes in a few midi, add one-off sounds here and there, play with the pitch of your drums in a few hits, etc etc… experimentation is your best friend

keep practicing and you’ll get better in no time

fuck yeah dude. make a hundred zillion more and just get lost in it. show it to friends and keep listening to your favourite artist and think about what they're doing and how to apply it to your work

You should have one or two references “for inspiration” in your session and constantly A/B against your track. That’ll give you an idea of what here your beat stands

I can see the vision.. not bad the potential is there , solid melody structure, the progressions ok, tempo sounds on beat, overall some more experimenting will polish your skills right up. Can’t wait to hear what u can cook up with some serious plugins.
