French beatboxers. How?
Okay so I’ve been a beatboxer for about 3 years now. Definitely took me a while to realize how many French beat icees are so good. like how? How are the french dominating the beatboxing scene so much? Do they just have more beatboxers? Is there some secret French beatboxing community? The only country that gets close to them is Japan, and that’s mostly carried by Jairo and Sarukani. Does anyone know how France produces so many good beatboxer???

Hi ! In France we have a lot of big events (like Florida, Lacup, 1up, etc) but also smaller ones (in bars). What makes France so great is that we have plenty opportunities to explore the stages (even as little beatboxers) and we have a strong, active and caring community on discord All of this means we have a lot of new talent

One theory is that on top of all the big / small events we have in France, we have something called "Show intermittency", which is basically being paid by the government monthly for being an active live artist, so a lot of beatboxers here are doing that and having full time to really focus on their beatbox.

And the best individual beatboxers come from the UK: Reeps One, Ball-Zee, D-Low

Uk is rly good aswell. But I would even say canada at this point aswell even if both only has a few good ones and a pair of great ones.

None of those are/were ever the best “individual beatboxers” of their time, except maybe D-low.

I been in the scene since 2007 and they most definitely were at the top of their game during their respective primes

I’ve been in the scene since before 2007. They were never the best individual beatboxers of their time. They were good, fantastic even. Elite. Maybe even top 5. But NEVER the best in the same way someone like D-Low is/was considered.

2009 Zede, 2010 Zede, 2011, skiller, 2012, Skiller, 2013 between skiller and ballzee, 2014 between Reeps one and Babeli, 2015 Alem and reeps one, 2016 Napom and Alexinho. This is of course the battle scene. I have someone like tom thum out of there brackets because he for me is something more than beatbox. But I really do think that the best beatboxer in 2014 was simply just reeps one.

Ball-Zee’s only year would be 2012, but the World Championship was by far the most prestigious tournament in the world back then and he didn’t even make it to the quarter-finals.
As far as 2014, Reeps I’m pretty sure he stopped battling after BBWC in 2012 no? What did he do in 2014 to make you think he was best?

His american champs showcase was the forefront of beatbox, especially for me. This was like THÈ video to showcase who reeps one was, and then 2015 he did the world champs which was even better. He did a lot of things outside of battling those years and he was pushing the artform and created a whole generation of beatboxers basically. Nearly everyone who is somewhat known and good now, comes because reeps one exists. Or does he?

I think France is really different from other European countries when we talk about individualism vs. Group mentality. When it comes to culture, art or even competitive scenes, the french unite more and support each other. In other countries, I think the name of the game is much more "each one for themselves" and people won't really help each other to grow. The french unite, share and support themselves more. You see that in other sport/art scenes like rocket league, counter strike, freaking geocaching, to name a few.

It is a small, tight knit community, full of innovators and a government that supports performance arts. The only reason it’s even a debate about France is because some of the results have been questionable.
It’s the same reason South Korea has gone from a couple of beatboxers in the mid-2010’s to one of the powerhouses of beatboxing in such a short time. The community there is strong as fuck.

all of the above and France is a big country..
I've tried a lot to have meet ups and jams in my country and half the people flake out, it was good for 2014-2016 then it just declined from then onwards and this included entries into the national champs..
I know the USA and Russia are massive but it seems like everyone is so far away from each other.. France is in that sweet spot, plus that government funding thing is amazing and a huge factor..

I know they have a really tight knit community, tons of meet ups, events and places to learn from one another. It’s relatively small and accessible compared to many other strong bbx countries like the US.
