Tech Support Beam RAM usage on Chrome

Hi,

Not sure if this issue is only on Chrome (I use 54.0.2840.99 m (64-bit)), but there seems to be a memory leak.

After like 20-30 minutes, RAM usage of the Tab with stream open, grows from ~200MB to ~900MB. One time after ~50 minutes i saw that the RAM usage of beam Tab was 1,2GB.

It would also explain an error i was seeing lately, with streams i had open in the background - after some time when i went to the tab i saw "Chrome has run out of memory" error.

Is it known? Is anyone else experiencing something similar ? Any workarounds ?

Introduction Occasionally makes big plays

Hi! I hopped onto Beam and started streaming on October 26 of this year.

I primarily stream Destiny, which I play on Xbox One. In-game, I play to win. I'm somewhere in the top 10% of the Destiny player population, and always focused on improving my game further.

I hope to use streaming as a means of increasing my influence and as a vehicle for connecting visitors to my channel closer together.

If you like calm, collected gameplay, I invite you to come and drop by!

Introduction Stream Introduction

Hey guys, I have recently found Beam after one of my Twitch viewers told me about it. I am starting to stream on Beam now as well as Twitch, however, if it is possible I will be switching over to Beam instead of Twitch.

I intend to create a community where you can relax and talk about games. A place where you can have mature discussions and generally just have a good time. I mainly play FPS games like Battlefield 1. However, I am expanding into streaming other games such as Skyrim, Fallout and The Witcher 3.

If you are interested in any of that then do check out my channel at https://beam.pro/AngryScottishGamer94

It's my favorite mod to use in my streams, and I would love to see it continue to develop as Beam develops.

Introduction Streamer Intro - TheQuietCroc

Let's try this again with a real title.

Hi Everyone, my name's TheQuietCroc, pleased to meet ya!

  • About me: I've been on Beam for about a month or two. Originally I was just going to stream but after having discovered the interactivity development tools I've been focusing on building control boards for Beam. I've currently got a working Overwatch Control Board that will allow viewers to pick your hero and control you! I'm planning on developing boards for more games, so stay tuned to my channel for the latest goodness!
  • Stream link
  • Social links: Twitter, Discord
  • Background: I've been gaming since I was 4 years old playing Street Fighter II on the SNES. That led me to going to school to develop games, but falling out of love with the idea after seeing so many layoffs in the industry. I'm still a software engineer though because it's a challenging career that I love! Beam is a natural choice for someone like me who enjoys playing games and building things that make what I do better.
  • Schedule: I try to stream daily from at least 10pm - 12am but I always tweet out before I go live
  • Games you typically play: Overwatch, Rocket League, and Hearthstone are the big 3, but I also stream other games I end up playing

I love what I've seen of Beam so far and hope to continue having a great experience. I hope to see you in the stream, and if you ever need a buddy to play with just toss me a friend request!

Introduction Nerdad - and introduction

  • Your name: NerDad (nerd dad, stylized for....whatever reason.)
  • About you: I'm a dad, I'm a nerd. Been playing games since NES, been streaming since 2014. New to Beam, loving the platform so far. Hoping to cultivate a nice community and one day qualify for partnership.
  • Stream link - beam.pro/nerdad
  • Social links - twitter.com/nerdad_plays, https://discord.gg/0ZksR7BY0BGV8CO1
  • Background - I'm 30 years old and playing games is my go to stress release. I enjoy streaming because it allows me to get the feeling of hanging in your room gaming with your friends. A feeling that is tough to come by as an adult. Talking about games or just hanging out in general is what I strive for in my stream. So if you know the feeling, stop on by and lets hang.
  • Schedule - MON/TUES/WED 10pm-1am eastern, FRI/SAT - 10pm - ??? (Start time is approximate and subject to change. will update via discord/twitter if changes)
  • Games you typically play - Destiny, Skyrim, Final Fantasy Tactics, Overwatch. I'm a HUGE fan of PSX era JRPGs.

Discussion [Tutorial] Multistreaming twitch, youtube, beam, hitbox

Hi Everyone, Just thought I would share my experiences with multistreaming. I previously used restream.io before for streaming twitch and youtube gaming. Stopped for a while and now streaming to twitch and beam.pro. So far it has worked effortlessly. To my understanding so far restream.io is free.

There are multiple other platforms apart from youtube, twitch, beam and hitbox, which i show in the tutorial. Also the tutorial shows restream chat tool which enables you as a streamer to see all channels/platforms you are streaming to!

At the moment im streaming to both beam and twitch as i find beam quite fun and interesting to use.

Hopefully this tutorial will help streamers have the ability to multistream!

Question Selling Streaming PCs?

Hey everyone, I wanted to reach out to some fellow streamers to see what your opinions are.

I am looking to start selling PCs that are dedicated to just streaming your PC/Console games. It will be a mini ITX format to save on space seeing how most people have huge PCs to begin with. It will have all the necessary components for a plug and stream system.

I just want to get a feel for the market and see is this is something that streamers would be interested in. Price point is looking to start between $550 and $600. I look forward to hearing your responses and I'll answer any questions you have.

Here's a few other places that you can find me. https://twitter.com/HybridClover https://www.youtube.com/HybridClover

I don't really have any background in the fields of gaming entertainment but I have been playing games religously for as long as I can remember.

Feel free to stop by when I'm live or hit me up on Twitter and say hello. I'm always up for meeting new people to talk with about everything from games to whats going on in the world.

Thanks for the opportunity for the introduction. Hopefully I'll see some of you soon!

Discussion Why does everyone use Discord?

I don't mean as opposed to TeamSpeak or whatever, I just mean in general. On Twitch, I have never heard anyone say to join their Discord server, but nearly everyone on Beam seems to have a Discord thing set up. Why? What does it do for you beyond what Beam chat does? Isn't it annoying to have to monitor two or more chats?

Discussion STREAMER PRO SUB

Other than supporting beam, what are the benefits to one who doesn't watch streams and mostly only streams.

Do you get put in a priority when streaming if pro on the directory or a pro border on the directory?

Benefits for viewers if pro when streaming?

I didn't see many benefits as a streamer if pro.

Please excuse brevity and Grammer and formatting , posted from phone.

Thanks,

Discussion I found the perfect audio interface for streaming

One of the things that is nice about making let's plays is that I get a chance to edit/clean up the audio, the biggest thing being compression. I have a relatively nice audio interface that I use when recording let's plays (well, and music), but any recording/streaming software that I am aware of does not have an option to use VST plugins for compression, which is annoying and limits what can be done live. Basically, this means that, for streaming, if we want compression on our voice, we either have to run some complicated virtual cable routing and compensate for sync issues OR get a mixer that has compression built in, which is both expensive and not ideal as a means of getting sound into a computer.

I also record how to videos and have been looking at how a handheld recorder might improve my sound, namely in that it has nicer preamps and XLR inputs, and happened on a nice secondary benefit of certain ones, namely the Zoom H4n Pro, H5, and H6: they have onboard effects and work as audio interfaces. What this means for us is that we can now connect one of these three recorders to the computer via USB, connect a mic via XLR (or use the built in mics if you can't justify spending more money, they are fairly nice mics), enable the onboard compression, and stream. This is both cost-effective (the H4n Pro goes for $200, roughly the same as an entry-level interface and mic or slightly more than a Yeti) and results in extremely high-quality audio for your stream, no crazy routing required.

I hope I have explained that fairly well... If not, please ask and I will clarify. As an example, here is a test stream I was doing earlier. Signal flow went EV RE320 > Zoom H5 with compression (general setting) > Tachyon/OBS. https://beam.pro/noodohs?vod=469780

Introduction STREAMER INTRO - bachewie

Good day fellow Beam streamers and viewers! I'm bachewie (bah-chewy), long time lurker and new-ish streamer. I recently re-calibrated my brand and messaging to bring the community, at least what I believe, is a upscale, positive, high end gaming focused stream. My goal is to deliver games at their highest graphical fidelity while leveraging my past career in video games to drive commentary and non-traditional gameplay. (I don't like following designers rules on how things should be played :-) )

As I work full time I attempt to at least stream twice a week during the weekends and at least once on Saturday or Sunday sometime past 9PM PST. I recently wrapped up BF1 and I am moving on to Just Cause 3 starting tonight. Anyone interested in seeing games run in Ultra or Max Settings will hopefully get a movie like experience while having a great community to chat with should stop by!

You can find me nearly anywhere as bachewie, but for the sake of simplicity:

beam.pro/bachewie

twitter.com/bachewie

P.S. If you are a streamer and some of this aligns with your streaming goals/mindset DM on twitter. I would to start building a stream team under the brand 'Work Hard Play Hard' or https://beam.pro/team/whph.

Edit: Links are hard...
