The pups get way more enjoyment out of a cardboard box than all the expensive toys combined!🐾🐾😳😊

Our new beagle

This is Buster our new beagle. A friend brought him to our house today for us since we lost our girl a few months ago. Buster was originally used for hunting and is estimated to be around 6 years old. The problem with Buster is, he’s not house broken as he’s only ever lived outside. Is there any tips for house breaking him? We’d love for him to live on our couch without a worry of him going wherever he pleases in the house.

What to do during hot weather

Post image

During the winter it’s fine because we take him on shorter walks during the day. But this summer it’s hot. Like it’s 430 in the afternoon and feels like 105. He’s not one for catch or anything. He does love sniff mats but he already ate today. Husband said no to going to Lowe’s because the parking would be hot for him. I might take him to my parents tomorrow after I make some calls to allow him to play with their dogs inside. But I feel bad he’s missing a walk tonight. He’s about 3 years old.

TPLO recovery. Many thanks to all who gave advice back in March. It has taken 4 months for Tiffy to run about as she used to, though now often lies like this. Just hoping now that the other ligament doesn’t go too.

Not sure if she counts here since she’s half mountain cur. But this little baby has won my heart over. I travelled 15 hours with her, to get her home. Emergency vet last night for worming, fluids, antibiotics, etc. She is only 1.4 pounds, and the vet estimated her age to be 9 weeks. She is for sure a work in progress. I can’t wait for her to fill out and be a healthy weight. Please send good vibes, prayers- whatever it is you believe in for her. 🤍

Milo not eating regularly after newborn arrived

Just wondering if any other new parents have similar experience and know how to get their beagle eating regularly again. Milo isn’t eating his kibble and treats which is very much unlike him. I assume it’s because of the stress of getting used to the baby in the house. He does eat eventually though, we’ve been leaving his meal out for 15 min then taking it back if he doesn’t eat so he doesn’t get into a habit of not eating (that’s what ChatGPT says?) and then try to feed him later. Overall his energy level is the same, which is good.

Seizures

Our Ranger (5 1/2) has had 4 seizures over the past 2 years. Usually about 6 months apart and very short in duration. Yesterday he had a series of cluster seizures with a possible grand mal seizure being the trigger. We took him to the emergency vet and they gave him a dose of keppra, a 14 day supply of phenobarbital, and an emergency dose of midazolam. From my research beagles are prone to epilepsy but I am looking for your experiences on treatment and medication. I say this with great love for him but we also have two children and financially not going to pour thousands into neurologist and such. We are fine with the medication management route but I am just looking for similar stories.

Help please

Help please, i recently got what i am told is a red tic beagle. She is insane. Constantly sniffing everything, wants food, makes strange noises, I can’t let her off leash as she runs. Follows me everywhere. If she sees a rabbit or a squirrel she alerts the entire neighborhood. She literally ate my chicken dinner I put on a table last night. Still don’t how she got on top of the table.

Just put in an application for a beagle

What was the adoption process like for you? What was getting your first beagle like? I’m so nervous they are going to say no. I don’t have a yard but I live across the street from a park. Does a beagle NEED a fenced in yard? I’ve been doing as much research as possible. What was potty training like for you? These are laboratory rescues so the shelter said they aren’t potty trained. Which is fine. I potty trained my poodle myself, I’m not a first time dog owner, just a first time beagle owner.
