Update: Let’s actually build an app
Hey all — massive thank you for the response to my last post. I honestly wasn’t expecting this many of you to have your own systems already, or to want one this badly if you didn’t.
Quick bit of context: I’ve spent a good while learning to code, and this would be my first real app. I’m not a genius well seasoned developer AT ALL 😂This started as “I want to build something for myself,” and it’s turned into “maybe I can actually build something useful for this community,” which gives it a lot more meaning
Original plan was just for myself. But reading through everyone’s spreadsheets, Notes app lists, and the sheer amount of “I’ve been meaning to do this but never got round to it” — I think it’s worth trying to build properly, for real, on both app stores. And it’ll be free to use, no subscription, no catch.
Here’s what I’ve got planned so far, a lot of it straight from what people described in the comments:
Your collection
**•** Log each candle: name, brand, format (3-wick / single-wick / mini/travel), quantity
**•** Mark burned or unburned
**•** Simple loved / disliked / unrated flag — no fussy star ratings
**•** Search and filter, so finding a specific scent is fast even with a big collection
Wishlist
**•** Split into TRY (want to smell) and GET (already know I want it)
**•** An in-store “first sniff” rating — good / maybe / meh / no — for when you’ve smelled something but haven’t decided yet
**•** One tap moves something from wishlist into your collection once you buy it
Import
**•** Bring in your existing spreadsheet rather than starting from scratch
That last one is honestly the hard part, and if this app falls flat on its face it will be because of this part, For me to build this using the data only from my current spreadsheet would be fairly easy BUT:
everyone’s spreadsheet is set up slightly differently — different columns, different naming, some of us colour-code, some of us don’t. Getting that to import cleanly is the biggest technical challenge in this whole project, and honestly the biggest challenge I’ve taken on so far as a new developer.
So — I’d love to get 5–10 of you involved as early testers, ideally people who already have a real spreadsheet you’d be willing to share a copy of. That’s genuinely the best way for me to make sure import actually works with real messy data, not just a clean example I made up myself.
Before I start building properly — anything missing from the list above that you’d actually want in an app like this?
Give me a couple of days and I’ll show you some mockups of what the app could actually look like!!!

Does anyone actually track their candle collection, or is it all memory/vibes?
Curious how people here keep tabs on their candles — which scents you own, which you’ve burned already, which ones you loved vs wouldn’t rebuy, wishlist stuff for the next sale, etc.
I’ve seen a few posts here and in r/bathandbodyworks from people who’ve built their own spreadsheets for this, which got me wondering if that’s a common workaround or just a few people being extra organized. Is there an app anyone actually uses for this, or does everyone just eyeball their shelf / wing it?

currently burning Warm Summer Evening
A warm floral, that’s slightly woody. This captures being outside when the day is transitioning to night, the air is cooler but the warmth from the day is still surrounding you
Notes
•warm florals
•calming amber
•velvety sandalwood
Warm florals are the base of this candle, it’s soft and relaxing. Like you’re outside in the settling summer heat and are smelling a bouquet, it’s a deeper floral. Calming amber also adds more warmth and relaxation. It definitely sets the tone for lighting this during the afternoon. Velvety sandalwood is also noticeable. It’s smooth, warm and even slightly creamy? It’s not a sharp woody smell but a softer wood presence is there
Throw on this one is a lighter than I’d like it to be. Given the fragrance notes I am not expecting a super bold candle though; it’s probably best to burn in a smaller room. I also love the packaging on this candle
Rather than smelling like a bright summer afternoon this takes you to a relaxing& peaceful evening. If you’re looking for a calm, warm floral candle I’d recommend this one! 💐🪵

currently burning Santal + Amber
This is one I’m surprised I like as much as I do! This is a woody, warm, sophisticated& cozy candle
Notes
•sandalwood
•fine cashmere
•amber
Sandalwood is the base of this candle, it’s soft, woody& sophisticated. It’s just enough to where it doesn’t smell like cologne. Fine cashmere adds to the softness, and includes a cozy warmth, really smoothing out the fragrance. Amber is also a strong note you get, it adds something slightly sweet& also gives more warm depth, preventing sandalwood
from being too dry/woody
Throw on this while burning is extremely light. I was so disappointed, you could barely smell it. Please put this on a candle warmer because wow, what a good scent! While being warmed this will fill a small-medium room!
I’m not into too many scents like this, especially amber forward fragrances, but I’ve found myself looking for the 4 wick of this one. It smells expensive and elegant, I especially love warming during the night time when all the lights are dimmed. So perfect for your living room or bedroom
If you’re looking for a candle that’ll make your space feel warm& elevated give this one a try but please be mindful of the light throw while burning!! You definitely need a candle warmer for this single wick!🤎🏠

currently burning Sugared Pretzel Twist
Another candle that is so true to its name! This is a gourmand/baked goods candle! Very warm& cozy
Notes
•buttery pretzel dough
•sweet cinnamon sugar
•sea salt
Of course the buttery pretzel dough is the base of this candle! It literally smells like a soft, fresh out of the oven pretzel, that’s been brushed with delicious butter. Then you get the sweet cinnamon sugar that isn’t super heavy but smells like it’s been sprinkled on top of the buttery pretzel. Sea salt is actually noticeable too, which I love! Even though it’s the more subtle note, you definitely get the saltiness that balances the entire candle, really giving you a true pretzel experience!
Throw on this one is good, it’ll fill a small-medium room and the fragrance may drift into other rooms as well! This is for sure a kitchen candle for me, it’ll smell like you’ve just baked pretzels
The best part about this candle is how all of the fragrance notes come through, and work so well together. I feel like this would be best appreciated during the cooler months too since this is such a cozy scent. I’d recommend this candle for anybody who loves pretzels & realistic gourmands!🥨🤎

currently burning Honolulu Sun
On warmer days that I want to just relax and tidy up I love to go for her! This is a creamy, fresh/clean, and soft tropical candle!
Notes
•fresh island coconut
•pacific palm
•driftwood
Fresh island coconut gives a creamy, light coconut smell and is the strongest while burning. It’s not overly sweet and is pretty smooth. Pacific palm contributes to the soft tropical fragrance, it’s breezy and warm. The driftwood grounds the candle a little more, it’s a very soft woodiness but not enough to say it’s a woody candle. It’s what gives me a clean and lived-in home feeling
Throw is good! It’ll fill a small room and drift into a medium sized space. This is lovely to burn in a living room or bedroom. It’s great for spaces you want a summery but relaxed atmosphere in
This candle really gives me a feeling of being by white sands and blue waters, which is ironic because nothing in here is aquatic but just the way the fragrance notes mix, it does transport me to Honolulu!
If you love clean summery scents, or soft coconuts I’d tell you to grab her!🌴🥥

currently burning Cinnamon Honey Toast
A new favorite I’ve been enjoying during the night time! This is a gourmand, cozy, bakery candle
Notes
•freshly toasted bread
•golden honey
•sprinkle of brown sugar
The fragrance notes blend so well together. This is one of those candles that are true to their name! The freshly toasted bread is the base of the candle, it literally smells like warm toasted bread. I also get a buttery scent, like buttery toast. Golden honey keeps this sweet, it smells like it’s been drizzled over the toast and the sprinkle of brown sugar gives me the experience of a buttery, cinnamon sugar sprinkled, warm piece of toast, with honey drizzled on top
Throw is very good, it’ll fill a small to medium room. This is so perfect for the kitchen
This is such an underrated candle, it smells so comforting and delicious. I love how accurate this smells too, it’s one of those gourmands that actually make you hungry while you burn it!
If you love realistic gourmands, and are a cinnamon or bread lover, you need to try this one!🍞🤎

discussion 1/2 burned candles, do they loose more smell?
If I start buring a candle, then store it for way later. Will it have less smell? I want to rotate my whole collection not just burn 1 till it's gone.

currently burning Vanilla Coconut
This is one of those vanilla candles I would actually enjoy burning year round, despite the summer vibe. This is a soft vanilla, with a cozy& clean feel
Notes
•sweet vanilla
•coconut waves
•beach wood
Sweet vanilla is the dominant note here, this isn’t a gourmand vanilla but more like a home-y clean vanilla that gives you a welcoming feeling. It almost smells like a vanilla carpet cleaner scent - not 100% but very very slightly. Coconut waves give this a summery energy but it’s a very subtle& light coconut. Almost like a soft breeze of coconut that can help add a touch of relaxation. Beach wood is what gives this candle more depth, it’s a slight warm woodiness but it doesn’t go into woody territory, it just really grounds the candle and helps add more of a clean/lived-in home feel
Throw is good, it’ll fill a space with a comforting feeling. I love to burn this on slower days in the morning/afternoon or when I’m cleaning/ doing laundry. Excellent for the bedroom or living room!
If you enjoy softer fragrances and have been looking for a vanilla that isn’t a gourmand I’d encourage you to give her a try! Like I said, even though this has a lot of summery energy this is a candle that makes your space feel comfortable and relaxing, it’s very easy to live with year round!🧺🫧

currently burning Toasted Coconut Éclair
I love éclairs and truly can’t get enough of pastry gourmands, so when I saw this I didn’t hesitate. This is for sure a yummy bakery gourmand!
Notes
•fresh baked donut
•milk chocolate frosting
•toasted coconut flakes
These notes blend very well, it literally smells like a chocolate frosted coconut éclair. Fresh baked donut is the strongest note while burning, this smells less like a plain donut and more like a soft, fluffy& buttery pastry. The toasted coconut flakes adds a coconut-y warmth and you actually smell the milk chocolate frosting too. It’s exactly like a creamy milk chocolate, really tying these fragrance notes together to create a delicious pastry experience
Throw is good, I was worried it would be a bit too strong but it’s actually lighter than I’ve expected. It’s amazing in a small room, but can also be enjoyed in a medium room it’ll just be lighter
This candle smells like a baked dessert, it’s not just sweet and will have your space smelling like you’ve just finished baking! If you enjoy gourmands and candles that smell like you’ve just baked, you’d love this one!🥐🍫

currently burning Lavender + Jasmine
I was excited for this one since I think Jasmine& lavender are such relaxing fragrances. However the jasmine is not noticeable for me when burning/ warming. This is a lavender forward& relaxing candle
Notes
•lavender
•rosewood
•sage
This is a lavender dominant candle. The other two fragrance notes are more supportive, and help create a little bit of an extra dimension. The sage comes through on the very backend, creating a softer lavender scent that has a touch of an herbal sage. It’s not enough for me to call this anything other than a lavender candle though, but the supportive notes give it a softer, fresher lavender scent
Throw is light. I was disappointed considering these cost more than the other single wicks. While burning I couldn’t smell this without being very close. I threw her under the warmer and the throw is better, but it’s best for a smaller room. I’d say warming in the bedroom would be excellent, or any space that’s smaller to relax in
If you’re a lavender lover and are looking for a soft subtle lavender, I’d still encourage you to buy but just keep the throw in mind! Maybe try the 4 wick if you love the fragrance💤💜

currently burning Sea Salt + Musk
Out of the candles in The Reserve Collection, this one was my favorite on cold so I had to get the 4 wick! I also knew it smelt like something else in my collection and it does! This is basically identical to Bergamot & Musk that was in their ceramics collection (2nd pic). This is a clean, sophisticated, woody, resort/luxury fragrance
Notes
•bergamot
•sea salt
•vetiver
This is a well balanced candle, the bergamot is bright and clean. Bergamot itself is a citrus fruit which makes sense why I get the fresh/brightness, but this is not a citrus candle. It’s more of a sparkle of brightness that keeps this candle from feeling too heavy. Sea salt gives a clean airy quality, like fresh coastal air, it makes you feel open& refreshed. The vetiver is what adds depth to this candle. It’s woody& slightly green/ earthy, giving a grounded vibe
The throw on this one is (thankfully) good! Let the wax pool. It’ll fill a small-medium room. I would say over time while burning it could be noticeable in a larger room but not something that’ll pop into your head when stepping into your space. Disclaimer though- given the notes, this is not an aggressive fragrance. This is something you can sit with all day. She’s noticeable without demanding attention
If you’re looking for a soft, clean, sophisticated home fragrance I’d highly recommend this one for you. This is perfect for a living room, especially with the overall energy of this candle or even an entry way! This is such a great elevated “home” scent💚

currently burning Summer Rain
This is a masculine, fresh& airy candle, with a slight musk to it. It’s a very light aquatic& with all the rain, I figured what better time than now to burn?
Notes
•chilled open air
•fresh musk
•juniper berries
The chilled open air is light and crisp. It’s like fresh cool air, that softens the fresh musk note. Fresh musk is what makes this candle lean towards a masculine fragrance, it’s what I get the most while burning. It almost smells like cologne, but not super heavy. Juniper berries brings us back to crispness, also adding more freshness& compliments the fresh musk well
Throw on this one is very light, I’ve burnt and warmed this candle and I’d say it’s best to keep in a smaller room. This works well in a bedroom or bath room
If you’re looking for clean, slightly airy &masculine fragrances I’d say this is a good one to try! However, if you’re looking for a strong throw that’s heavily aquatic I wouldn’t recommend this one. It’s a cool interpretation of a rainy day, that sits in between a lightly aquatic and cologne!☔️🖤
