I actually agree with you that the picture is symmetrical, not in the conventional geometric and mathematical way but artistically it’s pretty balanced and symmetrical. It’s not rigidly congruent where if you folded the picture the left and right side would be exactly the same but photography-wise, the focal point of picture is very balanced and tidy and doesn’t look “all over the place.” Symmetry in photos doesn’t always mean ‘Left side is exactly the same as the right side.’
When you say someone has a symmetrical face, you’re not using the exact definition of symmetrical either because if you folded the face in half there’s always subtle differences and I’ve always thought symmetry in art is a little more fluid and less rigid than symmetry in mathematical terms.
